Giants post game discussion

Post by Pondering Her Percy »

Now that was BALANCE on offense. Cousins threw for 306 and was 22 for 27. Cook ran 21 times for 132 yards. Why we didn’t do that from the start is beyond me. And granted the roll outs worked today but I hope they aren’t dumb enough to think we should do it all game every game because teams will figure it out. But regardless, they kept the giants D on their toes. Even watching the game I couldn’t tell when they were gonna run or pass. Still too much under center for my liking but much better than previous games.

As for the D, I thought they played solid all game. Too many penalties but Zim finally blitzed more often than usual and it had zones rattled. Something we should have done against chase Daniels. I give credit to shurmur for testing us deep every time we seemed to blitz but as the game went on it kept getting to Jones. The giants OL isn’t great but they did pick up the blitz pretty well. Wish we could do that.

Overall, much better game. (And I just traded for Thielen last night in one of my money leagues and traded for Calvin Ridley the night before. Thielen had 2 and Ridley had 1, I won my game by a mile 8) )

More of the same from the defense today that we saw last week.

Cook was back big time and he is the team MVP by a mile. Nice to see Theilen have a huge game.

Good all around game from everyone but Elflein, who is just awful and needs to be cut. Not benched, cut.

This just in ... Dalvin Cook is pretty good.

I was a little unnerved by the two fumbles, but he was a stud today with his first 200+ total yard game.

Kirk Cousins does what Kirk Cousins always does ... plays really well against inferior competition. But you know, it's a good solikd game, his best of the year. He needs to play efficiently like this next week against a really good Eagles defense.

If Danielle Hunter doesn't grade out at 90+ by PFF, then there's something wrong with their system. Man, he was disruptive. Two sacks, yes, but he was in the backfield all day. Nice game by Griffen as well, along with Barr and Harry Smith.

Good to see Thielen get off today. No way he was going to get shut down for much longer. Diggsy had a nice game, too ... especially that last catch and run, where he broke two tackles and got a big first down.

You know who is quietly having a nice season? Dan Bailey. 4-for-4 today, 7-for-8 on the season, and 21 touchbacks out of 25 kickoffs. Amazing what a decent holder will do for a good kicker.

I really, really hated the officiating today. Overall, the league is calling so many penalties. One PI after another.

Good win. Victories on the road are never automatic, especially for the Vikings. Nice that the Raiders helped us out today. Now if the stupid Cowboys would just play like an actual NFL team.

Way better offensive game plan today and it was great to see Kirk making a bunch of intermediate throws.

Defense still allowed way too many long drives (2nd half TOP was baaaad) and the offense left quite a few points on the board after getting in the redzone.

Is the season over yet?
I don’t post much anymore. There’s a LOT of overreacting that goes on from a week to week basis. It’s really only fun to lurk in here nowadays. Too much arguing.

Are we done overreacting yet this year?
Raise your hand if you thought bringing in a completely new offensive scheme that it would be executed perfectly from day one!

We lost to 2 of the best teams in the league, in their house. The Packers are not who we thought they were. They are quite a bit different on defense than we had any idea they might be. (If that makes sense) the 2 Smiths give them a whole new dimension.
We still almost pulled it out. KC won me over last year at Lamblow, this year, he lost me at Lamblow.

We will have to gut out our time as a KC lead team. My thought is we draft a QB high in the next draft and let him sit a year behind KC and then let him (KC) walk. I like Elinger at Texas. He’s a real competitor. Just like Russel Wilson.

Dalvin is the real deal and we finally have some real horses on the OL in place. Elf needs to get better or go away. I say we draft another guard/center regardless.

IMO, anyone who thinks Zim should go, is delusional. He’s the best coach we have had since Bud.
And, how many of Spielmans picks made the roster this year? Yup, a lot. He’s good and when you look around the league, he’s one of the better ones.
We at least have the talent to throw for over 200 yards and a dynamic running back stable and a Defense that is respected, which we didn’t have before Zim took over.

Remember where we came from, a laughing stock of the league on defense and a one trick pony running back on offense.

People rightly were upset that nothing has really changed from last year. This win doesn't change that and in fact was an easy win for last year's team too.

I forgot to mention Bisi. Not sure why Bebe was the third WR with Bisi on the bench.

Great game by the kid, I hope he keeps it up.

We opened up the offense today with a lot of 3 wr sets. Its no surprise that we looked better. This offense can thrive if we go into 3 WR sets.

I’m not sold on Dallas at all even though the media is dying for them to do well. Similar to the packers. But the cowboys have 3 wins vs Miami, Washington and the giants. Two of those 3 teams are the bottom 3 teams in the nfl.

And guess what, Miami plays Washington next week. Someone will get a win this year

We looked good for a half and then went into a conservative mode again in the second half. I think Zimmer has a choke hold on Stefanski and controls everything. The only reason we opened it up today was because some of our best players complained and then he listens, for a half. The game wasn’t put away at halftime by any means. I still have yet to see them let
Cousins audible at the LOS. He’s got 8 years in this league and knows what he’s looking at. You can win games against weaker teams, but we aren’t going anywhere against good teams. Washington would have been a three or four win team without Cousins, but at least Gruden gave Kirk the leeway to audible out of a bad play call, and Gruden was an idiot. I intensely question Zimmer as a coach. We are an 8-8 team at best. We can’t beat better teams without a much better offensive game plan. I think Zimmer is so old school and stubborn, he can’t and won’t change. Stefanski is over his head and drowning.
Hope I’m wrong, but I think we are a team with a lot of talent that will not achieve anything. It’s maddening to me!

Exactly. They need to do this more. Rudolph couldn’t separate from Rashod hill at this point. So sending him out for a pass is a waste. We need guys that can beat their man. And the best 4 are Thielen, Diggs, Bisi and Irv. Then add in cook or mattison.

David Carr said he watched a few of our game tapes and said “most people want to blame cohsins” but the passing offense stefanski/kubiak is running and the creativity of the routes these WRs are running looks like a high school offense. Hopefully today was a step in the right direction with these coordinators

Unless they tie, which would be hilarious (both finishing 0-15-1).

I'm not sold on the Cowboys, either. But I'm definitely not sold on Green Bay. They got out to a big lead (again) and then almost blew a 28-point 3rd quarter lead. The Pukers gave up 563 total yards. That's horrific. And I have to say ... that little wave by Aaron Jones as he went into the end zone ... I hope somebody blows him up with a hit that knocks him into next year. That was so bush.

By the way way, I'm so, so, so sick of all the PI calls. I'm watching the Indy-KC game right now, and there's a flag every third play. The NFL is ruining their product.

I think you’re 110% right when it comes to zimmer controlling stefanski. I think our offense was so basic in the first 4 weeks because stefanski was scared to throw the ball and tick Zim off. Nor do I think they put the time into the pass offense like they did the run offense. Like David Carr said, their pass offense and routes they had WRs running, the constant under center, looked like a high school offense.

Maybe what Diggs and thielen pulled was the right thing to do. I don’t think it was a direct shot at cousins at all. Howie long said the same thing. Why would it be?! These guys had the best years of their career under cousins. They know he can get them the football. I think it was a shot at zimmer and the OCs. They were getting sick or constantly running vs Chicago and obviously put little time into the pass offense that week. Thielen said “you can’t run the ball for 180 yards every week, you need to pass the football”. Maybe that, and Diggs forced them to be like “ok these guys are ticked and need the ball, let’s open it up a bit”.

And I’ve yet to see anyone respond to what I posted a few days ago.....

Since cousins has been a starter in this league, these are what his passing offenses have looked like.....

2015: 11th total pass offense
2016: 2nd total pass offense
2017: 12th total pass offense (Keenums was 11th and Kirk had way less weapons in WAS and a much lesser OC that year and was still 12th)
2018: 13th total pass offense

And then 2019: 31st in passing offense

But guys want to say cousins is the problem? The media and some fans think Thielen and Diggs think cousins is the problem??

No there is a bigger problem. It was addressed by David Carr on nfl network too. Cousins doesn’t just all of the sudden forget how to throw a football, becomes inaccurate in the middle of his career and just throw check downs. The game planning when it comes to this passing offense is as poor as it gets. Sure, cousins should have complete the deep ball to Thielen, thrown the ball out of bounds vs GB, etc. But there is something going on a lot bigger than just him. It looks like these OCs invested days at a time into this run offense but put way less into the pass. Carr already called them out for it. And I think Diggs and thielen lit a fire under these coaches rear.

But in the end, yeah you’re right, I think Zim wanted a puppet to control in stefanski and go back to 1980 football. I think Flip was still terrible and wrong not finding ways to use cook and refusing to run the ball. But these guys have been just as bad and are doing the complete opposite of what flip did instead of doing what they should have done and meet in the middle and balance the offense. They did it today. I hope to god they continue to do this and invest more time into this pass offense. Given who we have a RB and who we have at WR, there is ZERO reason this offense shouldn’t be balanced. Cousins can sling it, let him. Play to the strengths of your team. Not just the strength of your RB

Today’s game was perfect because they got cousins out of the pocket away from an often collapsing OL and allowed him to see the field. Throwing 27 passes and completing 22 for over 300 yards. The handed Dalvin the ball 21 times and also had him heavily involved in the pass game, and we played good defense. THAT is the recipe for success. Pat shurmur proves that. Zim should know that and needs to let these OCs do what they need to do to balance this offense because it can be damn good

Agreed Kapp. I feel the same about GB also. The media will always make it sound like they are going to the SB but they are definitely beatable. Rodgers has not been impressive this year. Not bad, but not eye popping. I think both teams are much weaker than their record shows.

And I feel like every games we’ve played, there is a flag hitting the ground every other play. These refs need to let these guys play. It’s getting ridiculous

Cook is truly a special talent and the engine that makes this offense go. He just needs to stay healthy and protect the ball better.

Great day for Barr, Griffen, and Hunter on defense. It seemed like they were blitzing more than usual which I like. There were a handful of missed opportunities for interceptions but you can't be mad at 10 points allowed.
