Wentz made many mistakes but Jetts and Hock both dropped TDs. Brandels penalty cost a TD and the snap over the head. The entire team was bad. There's nothing out there to replace Wentz with. This went way beyond one player. Our D did play great early after the 1st drive but KOCs offense couldn't score again. Hate to post it but based on KAM's draft history I don't get a great feeling for JJM.VikingsFan12345 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:09 pm It is time for Flores to be gone, the defense was embarrassing losing to a mediocre offense, Flores is not good as you think it is and Wentz needs to be gone, he is a back up for a reason and Hockenson needs to be gone, he is a terrible tight end

Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
True. But the drops and penalties Brosmer won't fix that. Brandels penalty for holding the guy was on the ground already. He was out of the play. We lost a TD. Jets had the TD drop and Hock. That's giving the game away. The Eagles tried to give it to us. Even Jets told the reporter when asked about the guy sticking his arm in Jets said that needs to be caught. It had nothing to do with the DB. That's playing poorly and I think it goes beyond one player.VikingsFan12345 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 4:30 pmVikings have Bromser, Bromser can not do any worse than WentzCharVike wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:37 pm

Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
A couple of players made some mistakes. Some drops, a few penalties. The defense had it's fair share of problems but played well enough for a mildly better offense to win.
One player failed harder than the rest and it wasn't close. Wentz overthrew, he underthrew, blatant intentional grounding, bad timing on short routes, terrible interceptions, backwards passes, missed wide open guys some of whom were the first read. In the red zone he played like someone paid him to lose. The only time the Vikings scored in the red zone was when the ball was snapped to someone other than Wentz.
He did some good things. Had those nice runs. Did make some decent throws. But not remotely enough to justify the bad.
Maybe JJM will be a failure, but at least he has the potential to improve. Wentz is a finished product.

Well said Cliff. Wentz isn’t the present or the future. That’s not even in question.Cliff wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 6:07 pm A couple of players made some mistakes. Some drops, a few penalties. The defense had it's fair share of problems but played well enough for a mildly better offense to win.

They had Darnold and Jones on the roster last season and decided on McCarthy. KAM didn’t make that decision on his own. KOC gets the credit he needs to get the criticism as well. I personally put more of this on him than I do KAM.
Honestly, I blame the coaching staff for most of the issues with this team. They have done almost nothing to develop a formidable running game. Or even the threat of a formidable running game. So little creativity. The play action game that is such a big part of what they do feeds off of it. And vice versa. Not at all impressed with what KOC has done with the running game since he has been the Head coach. It needs to improve significantly if this team is ever to truly compete with elite teams. The running game is your QB’s best friend, especially a young guy like McCarthy.
And the defense hasn’t been able to slow down any running game. And today, they just kinda got handled. This is a .500 team at best. Honestly they are lucky to be .500 right now. Injuries have hurt them, no question, but With the talent on this roster it’s time to put this back on the coaching staff. They have had a heavy hand in putting this roster together. They need to get their act together!!

I will never understand why people here say Flores is a good defensive coordinator and should be the Vikings head coach, Flores' defense sucked today especially the secondary
Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
Everyone is to blame for this one. My main issue with KOC is thinking the QB, no matter who it is, are all able to be at a functional level. Normally a decent QB would have multiple TDs with those play calls. But apparently you can’t expect Wentz to make plays in the red zone, so just pound the ball on 2nd and one, no matter what.
I also think Flores has run his course. We can’t run a trick defense forever and expect a championship defense. We need the players. He’s done a lot for a few years with the players he’s been given, but good teams and QBs have figured his scheme out, at least with the players he has. I think it’s telling he hasn’t signed an extension.
Then there is Kwesi. I kind of give him a pass for his first draft as he was using Spielman‘s scouts and staff, and didn’t have a lot of time before the draft. But he got too cute. Wouldn’t Hamilton be nice to have on this team? And spending the capital to get Turner … he’s ok but not a game changer at this point. He’s still young, but I still think he should be able to be a game changer, and I don’t see it yet. Wouldn’t it be nice to have Jarod Verse on this team without having to give up that extra draft capital? Anyway, he hit on free agents with Greenard, AVG, and Cashman, but this year’s free agent s have mostly been busts, with the possible exceptions of Rodgers and Fries. And while the UFDAs have been good, you can’t rely solely on them. This team needs a major infusion of talented young talent.
End of rant. This was a very frustrating game that was winnable

Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
Oh and their pursuit of a backup QB was a joke this year. They are paying for it now.
Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
I wouldn't say the defense sucked. The Eagles had one drive the first half otherwise our D shut them down. They held that team to 40 yards rushing. Our pass rush was bad. No secondary will hold up to that. Hurts was allowed to step into those deep throws. Letting Metellus try and cover A J Brown was a head sratcher. Don't we have any deep help from the safeties. The 79 yard bomb I think I saw safety Jackson moving towards the LOS as the WR raced downfield. I think having a weak pass rush was the biggest issue on D. Make Hurts move.VikingsFan12345 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 8:04 pm I will never understand why people here say Flores is a good defensive coordinator and should be the Vikings head coach, Flores' defense sucked today especially the secondary
Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
How about a starter. Letting Darnold walk really gets under my skin. The guy played great behind an OL that had nothing at LT for most of the year and the IOL was replaced this year which tells the story for that group. The guy threw 35 TDs and they say see ya later. Once injury prone JJM gets back out there we will need to watch the development cycle. Based on his first 2 starts he has a long way to go. No different than most young QBs. I saw it yesterday with Penix. 10 points he put up. IMO they created a boring product going into year 4. I don't think Wentz is a horrible backup but he's certainly not a long term starter. Those side arm throws are weird to watch and get's him in trouble. How about throwing over the top.

Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
Couple take aways. Still pissed off.
Wentz wasnt on a nfl roster early august for a reason. He is not the answer, he never was the answer, he didn't even go through an entire training camp with the team.
The defense got burned bad on the most important plays. Yes they played well in spots, but got burned over the top multiple times, against an offense designed to do that. That is what their offense does. We have no corner depth (and yet traded away one of our few corners at the start of the season). If the plan is for Metellus covering the likes of AJ Brown, we are screwed.
It's time to play JJ McCarthy, now. I don't care what happens to the record. We have to see what we have there. You have to know if that room has to be reset completely.

Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
The Eagles offense was awful statistically up until this game, struggling to run the football and just move the ball in general. They were 30th in yards per drive before that game, averaging 25 yards per drive, and against us they averaged over 40 yards which would be the best in the NFL. I believe they were also at least in the top 5 in yards per play that game, averaging 7.4 yards every time they snapped the ball. Our D was hideous against the Eagles and Flores got owned yet again by them.CharVike wrote: ↑Mon Oct 20, 2025 5:33 amI wouldn't say the defense sucked. Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
As a soon to be 68 yr old die hard Vikes fan, it’s time for me to face the truth. Despite high hopes, this team is not going anywhere this season. We are 8-9 or 9-8 at best. Of course we could be like the 1971 Cowboys - start 4-3 and then rip off 7 wins. But no. That will not happen.
This team under performs at critical times. When was the last time we came out of a bye and looked dominant? Why are we always struggling to get the play off on time? When so focused on calling the next play, it challenges focus for situational awareness. Boy Wonder should delegate play calling to an OC and focus on the game at hand.

Re: Week 7 Vs. Eagles
Yesterday's result was frustrating, mostly because the Eagles aren't a very good team and were very beatable had the Vikings done some simple things better. Defensively, there was just no excuse for repeatedly failing to get to Hurts on the pass rush and then letting him dink them over the top. I give credit to Hurts for keeping plays alive with his scrambling and his accuracy on the deep passes, but giving up one deep pass a game is bad. Giving up multiple deep passes like the Vikings did yesterday should never happen. The Eagles up to this point in the season had not had that type of success passing on anyone, and yet yesterday they did it over and over again. It really doesn't matter that the Vikings played better against the run, although even there one could argue their success against the run was more the product of the decline of the Philly running game overall, but stopping the run doesn't matter if you can't play pass defense and the Vikings could not do that.
But the real killer of this team is the QB play, and that is the torpedo that is going to ultimately sink the season. To me it looked like Carson Wentz was actually in the tank for the Eagles at times yesterday, missing multiple easy throws. There were other problems, yes, and other players blew it at times, but that level of play at QB isn't going to cut it, and the Eagles are not a great defense this year.
If I were KOC yesterday I would have put Brosmer in to play the 2nd half. What is most amazing about the situation, though, is that even after going through what the team went through the year Cousins went down they allowed themselves to be in the position they find themselves in at QB this year. They had two viable vet options on the roster at the end of last season, either of whom would have stayed with the team had they gotten a competitive offer and been assured there would be an open competition for the starting QB spot. But that isn't what happened. I don't know what either was offered to stay, but it was made clear that McCarthy was going to be the starting QB even though he'd done nothing to earn the job other than being drafted 10th overall the prior year. And now the team finds itself here in QB purgatory yet again. McCarthy can't stay on the field and honestly stunk when he was on it, they are relying on a vet QB that literally nobody in the league wanted to sign, and they've got an undrafted rookie as their 3rd QB option that apparently KOC is too afraid to take a chance on even though he can see the same things all of us can see regarding his other options.
It's criminal where the Vikings organization finds itself yet again at QB. There was no need to force the McCarthy situation even if they fully believed he would succeed. There was no need to treat him as if he were an established veteran starter during the preseason either. KAM and KOC need to start making better and more honest decisions about the QB position specifically and the roster more generally.
