My guess is that it has to do with propensity for injury. He tweaked his leg in that last preseason game. If no one picks him up I'd assume we still have mild interest down the road. And then again in his appearances this preseason he looked like he had put in the work and made some nice reads and throws.
Still, KOC is a former pro QB so if he was willing to walk away from Hall he must have a good reason.

Sadly, Nwangwu's time with the Saints was over before it got started. ESPN's Katherine Terrell shared on X that that the former Minnesota running back has been released with a failed physical designation.
Kene Nwangwu was the Vikings' kick return specialist prior to his release. The former Iowa State product handled 68 kickoffs during his three seasons in Minnesota, resulting in three touchdowns and one All-Pro Second Team nod.
News of Nwangwu failing his physical is surprising since the Vikings likely would have waived him with an injury designation if that had been a contributing factor in his release. The fact he did not pass his physical with New Orleans raises a lot of questions.
Once healthy, Nwangwu will likely get another opportunity in the NFL. His skills as a return man could be valuable to a team and he could find a way to be more productive as a running back to increase his value.

You might be right, but I'm apparently not familiar with interpreting "Kwesi-speak"... From the following article on ESPN: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/410 ... jaren-hallpsjordan wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 1:27 pmMy guess is that it has to do with propensity for injury. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said the team will try to re-sign Hall to its practice squad but was concerned about him being "one snap away, or one snap from one snap away" at this point in his development.
Because he's one snap away from another injury? Or one snap away from realizing his potential? Whose job is it to get him to where he can realize that potential? After all, KAM, you drafted the guy. And is this Rypien guy any better? I mean, he hasn't stuck anywhere either.
[Edit] OK, after reading KAM's and KOC's coach-speak comments here https://www.vikings.com/news/quarterbac ... ofo-mensah I think I understand what KAM at least meant by his one snap comments: Basically, what he means is that he's afraid of throwing Hall back on the field in the event of injuries to Darnold and Mullens and wants a more veteran 3rd option at QB, which Rypien is. So it's effectively saying to Hall "it's us, it's not you". But they do pay lip service to hoping Hall returns to the practice squad so they can keep developing him. I wonder what the odds are of that happening...
[back to the original post]
And then this gem gets thrown in attributed to Mark Wilf:
So does Mark Wilf really believe that it's possible to be prepared for events like what happened last year to the Vikings at the QB position where QB1, QB2 and QB3 all are out or go out with injuries in the span of what, a week? In all the years I've watched pro football I can't think of another team that had that happen.Speaking to reporters in March, Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf made clear that he did not accept injuries, especially the one to Cousins, as an excuse for the team's 7-10 record.
"That's part of the game," Wilf said at the time. "That's something you have to be prepared for, and I think [Adofo-Mensah and O'Connell] will be the first to tell you they take that on themselves."
I wonder if Mark Wilf ever thought about what he personally would have done differently from what KAM and KOC were able to do under the same circumstances last year? I'd go a bit further even and say that what KAM and KOC did do to try to meet Mark Wilf's expectations actually cost the team valuable draft position in the 2024 draft as they did manage to eke out 1-2 more wins than the team had a reasonable right to get, pushing them down the draft board and limiting their options in a year they almost needed to draft a QB.
Re: 53-man roster deadline on Aug. 27 4 pm
Mullens was on IR 10/11 and Cousins was knocked out on 10/29. We were playing with 2 QBs and one was a 5th round rookie. I think that's what M Wilf was referring to. Obviously they felt when Mullens initially went down something should have been done because Hall wasn't ready. We are in the same boat this year. Mullens hasn't been the most healthy player in his career. That's probably why they got a vet. Wilf's comments don't sound too good for our current GM and HC. Sure Darnold was pick 3 but he turned the ball over in college and that has continued ever since. Teams reach for QBs when in need.VikingLord wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 3:24 pmYou might be right, but I'm apparently not familiar with interpreting "Kwesi-speak"... No health problems with Turner. Just a very goofy draft.VikingLord wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 3:26 pmTurner was a consensus top 10 pick (much like Hamilton) coming out this year, so the fact he slid out of the top 10, much less to 17 where the Vikings got him, either means a lot of teams missed badly on him or the rumors about a health issue scared everyone but KAM and the Vikings away. I just didn't see evidence of a problem when watching his final year of college highlights and I haven't seen or heard of any issues with him since he joined the Vikings, but that doesn't mean there isn't something there to be worried about.CharVike wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2024 12:28 pm
I wonder if he regrets the competitive rebuild theory. Haven't heard it in some time. Hamilton was rated as a top 10 to 5 guy. Many teams skipped probably because of bigger holes but KAM needed a safety and picked the 3rd or 4th guy selected. Hopefully he don't regret giving the 2025 picks away for Turner. That will be answered in a few weeks. I expect a few splash plays at a minimum. With our fine tuned O ready to roll and score there will be some sack opportunities against a nothing OL.
That Cine/Booth move stuck in my craw back in 2022 and it sticks even worse now that both Cine and Booth are gone. The move to get Turner has got to pay off for KAM.

Re: 53-man roster deadline on Aug. 27 4 pm
Out with McBride in with Scott.
Zavier Scott is one of the more versatile players in this entire draft class. Some of his snaps by position last year are:
13 snaps at Quarterback (wildcat)
58 snaps at running back
232 snaps at slot receiver
257 snaps at outside receiver
6 snaps as an inline tight end
For the year, Scott finished with 41 receptions for 421 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed the ball 39 times for 369 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Scott was truly a do-it-all player that lined up all over the field at Maine.
Scott's best attribute in the passing game is how dependable he is as an option. He hauled in over 73% of his passes a year ago, and over 70% of his overall receiving yardage came after the catch in 2022. He seamlessly transitions from receiver to ball carrier when the ball touches his hands, which led to big YAC opportunities for the Maine offense with him on the field.
Unlike most wide receiver prospects, Zavier Scott has some experience in the run game as well. He ran the ball 39 times a year ago, forcing 21 missed tackles on those few rush attempts. He also averaged over 9.0 yards per carry on those attempts, which is pretty impressive no matter which level of football you are playing at.
Zavier Scott also isn't afraid to mix it up in other ways as a receiver. He logged nearly 400 run blocking snaps over the past two seasons at Maine. Maine also trusted him a ton in the run game, oftentimes motioning him inside as the lead blocker on counter and wham rushes. Scott fared quite well with these types of assignments.

Mo should have been on the roster. We can always use a running back and he ran the ball well for the Gophers.

It became goofy with all the QBs flying off the board. Since 2025 draft looks weak at QB it basically came down to now or much later as in years later. I have high expectations for Turner. Trading down to pick 32 and not getting the Lions 1st rounder the following year was as dumb as it gets. Many on here said it at the time and they were right.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 6:03 amNo health problems with Turner. Dalvin Cook signed with Dallas. I thought Cook was a very good back for us. He was fun to watch. He's one player I felt sorry for when Zim ran him into the ground and he had to sit out a game or two just to get his legs back. He's 29 so the tank is about empty. If he can still move he'll give them another weapon.

I don't think Cook has done anything much since the Vikings let him go. I liked him as a player but the RB position is a lot like the DE position in terms of guys hitting the proverbial cliff at a certain point in their careers. TBH, I'm worried about the same thing happening to Jones although he hasn't been run into the ground like Cook was so hopefully he's got at least another productive season ahead of him.CharVike wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 1:23 pm Dalvin Cook signed with Dallas. If Turner didn't have a medical red flag then I'm very confused how he fell so far in the draft. I could count on one hand the number of pre-draft mocks that didn't have Turner coming off the board by the 10th pick, and for someone who is as physically gifted and productive as Turner was coming out for him to drop to where he did without some major red flag is beyond puzzling. By all accounts he's a super hard worker and great teammate too. Just seems like the kind of guy someone would have taken off the board early (especially a team like the Falcons that needed his services much more than they needed a QB).VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 6:03 amNo health problems with Turner. Sometimes the Vikings just get inexplicably fortunate in the 1st round. Randy Moss falls to them at what was it, #21? Adrian Peterson falls to them at #8 (which was still a high pick, but in any normal world he would have been gone by #3). Kevin Williams literally falls to them at what was it? #9 after Tice failed to get his pick in on time and several teams jumped the Vikings in that draft. And now Turner looks like he's another steal of that same magnitude, although time will tell.

Guessing the whole board slid with so many qbs being taken early.
