Darnold Vs. JJ depends on how you're grading. If they each only had one drive, like Darnold did, he outperformed JJ and it isn't even close.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:36 am JJ throws a classic type of bad interception on his first series. After that he is lights out. 117 QBR. Darnold played OK, JJ played better.

Re: When does McCarthy start?
That's not reality. You're trying to grade McCarthy's worst drive against Darnold's one failed drive. JJ led 3 TD drives and Darnold failed to convert from first and goal. McCarthy had the far superior game.Cliff wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 9:29 amDarnold Vs. JJ depends on how you're grading. Re: When does McCarthy start?
You can't really make a fair comparison either way. Darnold had one drive. McCarthy had several. Darnold threw some dimes & got into the red zone & came up empty on his only drive. JJ had an interception. And that's OK. Interceptions happen sometimes. JJ had some great throws as well. The two long TD passes were sweet. I would have liked for JJ to have had an opportunity in the red zone just to see how he did on a short field.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:28 pmThat's not reality. All in all. I was quite pleased with both of them. Darnold is gonna have a hard time holding McCarthy off. And I don't think he will. Regardless, I hope they both do great. Competition should bring out the best in both of them. But, I think McCarthy's confidence & competitive fire wins out.

Re: When does McCarthy start?
JJM missed practice today. Knee soreness. Undergoing additional testing. I'd guess exercising a lot of caution.
Re: When does McCarthy start?
Sounds like your typical Monday morning soreness. I don’t believe he has had knee surgery so he should be fine in a few days. Those ain’t no skinny Teddy Bridgewater legs on JJ. He sure did look comfortable out there. That’s encouraging.
Re: When does McCarthy start?
KOC indicated game after soreness. At least he didn't say a little tweak, Your right he did look comfortable. He had that rusher coming into his face and he hung in there and got the pass off. At least he has a good arm. It's a long process and judging things based on preseason is always risky. I thought we found gold with Sloter who put up great numbers. So I'm not judging anything off this.
Re: When does McCarthy start?
I meant if JJ was only given his first drive like Darnold was. The only apples to apples comparison are their first drives. After that, JJ gets extra reps and opportunities Darnold didn't have and has them against weaker players. Would Darnold have looked even better than his first drive? Would he have throw two INTs? Who knows.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:28 pmThat's not reality. You're trying to grade McCarthy's worst drive against Darnold's one failed drive. This franchise is snake bitten, no one will ever convince me otherwise. Best case scenario how long is he gone for? Zero excitement for the season now….makila wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 11:30 am Surgery. *sigh*

"Snake Bitten" does seem to be the appropriate term. I convinced myself several years ago that if there is a God... the only thing he/she hates more than the Viking are the Vikings' fans. It's really hard to not be a cynical bastard when you're a Vikings' fan. It's not a question of if something will go wrong. It's a question of when something will go wrong.allday1991 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 11:41 amThis franchise is snake bitten, no one will ever convince me otherwise. Re: When does McCarthy start?
Well, at least the conversation about which QB will start the season is over.
Re: When does McCarthy start?
I wouldn't call it Snake Bitten because injuries are part of the game. Burrow has missed how much time? Jets sign Rodgers boom gone. He missed a season when Barr knocked him out. I'm sure there is more. At least it wasn't a torn knee or a ripped shoulder. I don't think it's the end of the world. He can continue his development on the sideline which is what he was going to do anyway. Here we sit now with a bust and nothing else. We did that to ourselves. We had a guy that played many straight games while taking a beaten which I would call great luck. We didn't want that even after watching that 3-6 melt down. Who wants to watch another run like that.Tommy TarkenKapp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 12:12 pm"Snake Bitten" does seem to be the appropriate term. Re: When does McCarthy start?
Didn't Randall Cunningham have a similar injury late in the 1998 season? I believe all that was needed for him was a knee scope & a clean-up. He didn't even miss his next start. I know there's always a possibility that McCarthy's situation could be more severe. But, I seem to recall Randall only experiencing soreness & he was able to play with it after the clean-up procedure. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly though. It was almost 26 years ago.
