It was a routine FG and a clutch kick at the same time. Many short FGs have been missed in clutch situations. The missed XP was a choke. The game winning FG in OT was clutch.

a team drives down on their opening drive. Stalls, winds up kicking a 56 yard field goal to open the scoring. Is that a clutch field goal? There's a decent amount of uncertainty on making that kick, right?. Don't care if it's Prater, Crosby, Blair Walsh kicking..
If either one of the named kickers makes it? It's clutch If the attempt fails. well we tried.

Same scenario except a 33 yard field goal to open the scoring. Make the kick , good job. If you miss that kick? You're expected to make those kicks regardless of the place, time of game, field conditions weather etc.. If you don't, you get cut.

Yes kicks get missed, passes get missed, passes get dropped, tackles get missed, punts get shanked. . Nobody/s perfect but, you have to be competent consistent, reliable, and accountable.. Or you're out of a job.

That's that ! It's been your pleasure
He made the kick. It ended up being the game winning points. That's really all I care about in that situation. It would have been better if he hadn't missed the XP. I wish we never moved on from Kai Forbath. He was great on FGs both % and super clutch as well. He missed a few XPs so that started our merry go round of Kickers.

PHP is probably my best friend on the board. I called him out for going too far with Fiestavike. However, I do agree with him that Fiestavike should be sold that the Vikings are a good team this year. 8-1 does not happen by accident.
I was just wondering why a forum poster was letting another poster ruin his forum experience. Get a thicker internet skin guy.
But, Just because Fiesta see's things differently doesn't mean you should be bothered by that either. why can't he express his opinion? and you and ur boy accept that? FiestaVike is a bit skeptical. So what? You said Fiestavike should be sold that the Vikings are a good team. Why does he owe you and PHP that? Just to appease you? Yes 8-1 is pretty damn good feat. 7 straight wins in the NFL is a even better feat. Things are pretty special right now. But simply put : Some people have to see it to believe it. Some people need more proof.Cuz some people are still sayin Cousins only wins 1 o'clock games. He can't win the 3 o' clock. 7 o'clock prime time nationally televised games. lol Do those skeptics owe you and PHP an apology or concession too? FYI nobody owes you anything.

That's that! It's been your pleasure
Fiestavike doesn't owe us $hit, but an 8-1 record with 7 straight wins, just beating the supposed best team in the NFL on the road should, IMO be enough to convince everybody on the freaking planet that we have a good team.

I’m young? Do we know each other? I’ve been on the board for 10 years and am 33 years old. And I’ve seen 10 years of constant negativity on here. Which hey, we haven’t won a SB so some is expected. But a CONVINCING win like this should be nothing but fun on here. The Vikings are 8-1. But there just always has to be a downer. Guess it gets tiring when you’ve seen it for 10 years on here.
PHP 33 means you're young as hell  . As you saw I thought you went a little far with Fiestavike. I'm still waiting to understand what sold on means to him. He hasn't answered that.

Chi-Town Vike wrote: Mon Nov 14, 2022 3:29 pm Clutch KIck? More like a routine field goal attempt. If it was a 55 yarder or, even 45 yards on this day i would say ok, clutch!!! The Pat after Ham's TD was more a clutch situation. Can't miss that kick, HUGE miss. 4 point deficit instead of 3. Then translates into a 3 point lead instead of 4 point. Guy gets paid to make field goals/xtra points and kick deep. I've been tryin to pull for the guy but, he makes me nauseous. On that KO return it looked like he was a personal escort for the return guy. lol didn't even dive.

Peg should be cut. We can't even make an attempt that is over 30 yards. He has more lives than a cat. I was shocked that he was able to get the game winner in the air. He'll have a complete miss of the ball eventually so Wright better be ready to throw it when it does happen. He'll be the first holder loosening up his arm before the snap. Anything over 30 and just let Wright do a drop kick. Just leave the offense out there and Wright can sub for Kirk. This week his KOs will be landing at the 20 with no air time. Basically starting at mid field. Just joking. In the end Peg sucks and will cost us a game. That's easy to see.

lol I'm not young in the sense of being 15 years old like he was portraying. If I went a little far, I apologize. Again, there wasnt ill intent behind it, it was more in the sense of, holy crap can we just enjoy a legitimate win without the negativity or acting like this team is a poser still. That win was as convincing as you could ask for in terms of us being contenders or pretenders. If 8-1 and beating the #1 SB contender on the road isnt convincing enough to tell you this team is a legitimate contender, then I honestly dont know what to say. If you expect 9-0 and 20 point wins, then that's just simply not realistic. For any team, not just the Vikings.

LOL, PH, you be young! I am 58, being watching the Vikes for 50 years.....both a Cub fan AND a Vike fan....for 50 years I have been having my heart broke by the Vikes. So, yeah, those of us with decades more experience are a bit too wise to get too confident in this team. They have certainly been having an exciting season this year but they are winning by wild comebacks, lucky breaks, and creative coaching. That is not a recipe for guaranteed success. On the other hand the league seems to have developed a mild case of regressing to the mean. There is no hands down favorite this year except the Eagles and they just stumbled, so who knows, maybe it IS our year....finally. When the Cubbies finally won it all I happily fulfilled my vow to take a lap thru the neighborhood in my tighty whiteys.....I will be thrilled to take a second victory in lap in my Vikes loincloth and Horns!!!! Either way, we are all Vike Fans, long suffering ones, so lets just be nice to each other. Tearing down another fan doesnt make you more right....... :smilevike:

The only issue I have with the “dickering” is that the single, only and undefeated judge is hindsight.

Until then, I don’t know why differing opinions on a team or a player or a position would bother anyone. None of us know the future, and we all enjoy the present in the manner our DNA allows. Why care about another person’s outlook, current or future?

If there is a post one sees as “too negative” or even “too positive”, who cares? I actually see more “too positive” posts here, it’s just the way my DNA works, but I don’t want anyone to stop posting. Be as positive as you like. By the same token, I also don’t care if someone is “too negative”. It’s all under my lens, and no one - no one at all - appointed me the King Voice of All Reasonable Thoughts.

Just give a shrug and “mmm ok” to the posts that you don’t agree with, then post whatever you deem worthy of posting. If a countering view is worth posting, post it. No need to tell folks to leave the forum.

I read pretty much all posts, regardless. I enjoy most, some I just mentally skip and move on. Almost every single post has at least a nugget of truth though.

I’m enjoying this season very much. Love watching the players shine on this team. But I have zero expectations to the negative or positive in terms of final standings. I’m just enjoying game by game - and really, play by play.

Haha yeah. When I was younger he was at some family reunions. My aunt (mom's older sister) keeps in touch with him on a semi-regular basis.

RE kicker. Being a fan since the mid 90s (so not as long as many here), I've just accepted we will always be let down by kickers. I'm scared since 1998 still. I'd rather not rely on a kicker at all as a Vikings fan. Part of why Zim's style frustrated me. Hahahahahaha.

Everyone said Greg was soooo locked in during preseason. I was very hesitant to crown him, as I don't really give a #### what happens in the pre-season. There isn't true pressure. So much of kicking is mental at the NFL level. It's not like these guys can NOT physically make the kicks. Now that we've got into the regular season we see more and more Joseph is pretty average when it comes time for rubber to meet the road.

Good post!
RE positive/negative. Both exist in the world. It's ok. I hate the good fan/bad fan crap. It's just pointless.
The Vikings are 8-1. Is that awesome? Hell yes.
Have the Vikings been perfect? Hell no.
It's ok to point out places where they can improve. It's also ok to point out we have the best record in the NFL.

Will any of that matter if they get bounced in the first playoff game? Nah, and people will be pissed.

As someone who hates the competitive rebuild thing, and wanted a hard franchise reset, I'll ride the season and have fun. Hope that I eat a ton of crow and we aren't losing our final game of the season. (the truth of being a Vikings fan my entire life)

Also, PHP, you are young. Heh. Just needed to pile on. ; )
I enjoy your contributions here, along with many others. We just don't have to try to dictate what other posters do.

Guys. Why can't we have nice things?

There's been calling out back and forth and name calling but things have mostly remained civil, so I'm going to leave it alone. Next person after this post that can't stick to the topic and goes after another member instead will be banned for however long I feel like in that moment and I'm mostly not in a great mood these days.

I think what others may be trying to say essentially, and we all know it, is there's a lot of football left this season, and anything can happen.

We got a good team, it was a great win Sunday, and it would appear we're destined for the playoffs pending nothing really crazy happens the last 8 weeks.

Yet as Vikes fans have endured a lot over the years, I think it's okay to continue to be a little skeptical, and yet have some tepid optimism. I certainly fall into this boat (no pun intended). :)

Nothing is a sure thing in the NFL, so hopefully this team can continue to get better and play well enough to keep winning.

The season has certainly surpassed my expectations so far. :)

Well yeah of course anything can happen. That's not my point. We're talking about being sold on this team as a super bowl contender. And there is zero reason to believe they are not a SB contender right now

Not necessarily related to the topic of this thread, but I just saw that Dallas is favored in the upcoming game?

I was wondering if the refs got paid off in this last game against the Bills, but now I'm really starting to wonder who in their right mind thinks Dallas is so objectively better than the Vikings that they would favor them as visitors against the Vikings?

I try to avoid picking the Vikings games in the Pick4 contest as I always worry that I'm not objective when it comes to them (and I admittedly am not), but if the spread stays the way it currently is I'm going to have to change that for sure.

Is Super Bowl Contender what sold on or not sold on means. Thanks for clarifying. I thought it could mean anything from a good team to a sure fire Super Bowl winner.
