Why Vikings gave Reiff a 5 year 68 million dollars contract is beyond me

Re: Trent Williams
Whether we cut Reiff or trade him it doesn’t matter. Either way it saves us $8.8 million. Releasing him does not count against our cap. We soak about $4 million in dead money if we release or trade him. Essentially, one isn’t better than the other in terms of cap savings, it’s the same thing. The only reason trading Reiff would make sense is because then we would have to give up less draft capital to Washington for WilliamsVikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 5:26 pmReiff is an average starting left tackle and cutting him would cost about 9 million against our cap. We can't cut him and afford Williams. He needs to be included in any trade for Williams. As for giving a second round pick for an older player coming off injury and then have to pay him a very large salary we can't afford that even though he is very good. Reiff and a 3rd I believe is as good an offer as Washington will get and if we are willing to do that they will cave sooner or later.Vikings09 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 4:39 pm I think we trade for Williams and if not it makes you think they are not trying to make the playoffs next season whenever that is....give the redskins a 2nd and be done with it and cut Rief...the line will be much improved just doing those two moves and who knows it could end up being one of the best lines in the league and it will give Cousins confidence that he has time to look over the field

Re: Trent Williams
This is incorrect the way I understand it. Does Reiff have no guaranteed salary? After June 1st I've heard there's some kind of discount, but right now if I understand correctly we are out more if we cut Reiff. Maybe I got it wrong. Washington would get a deal on Reiff if they trade for him because we are liable for all the signing bonus money. Is that correct? They just have to pay the base salary.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:39 pmWhether we cut Reiff or trade him it doesn’t matter. Either way it saves us $8.8 million. PHP is correct, our cap savings don't change whether we cut or keep him.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:43 pmThis is incorrect the way I understand it. Washington would get a deal as you said though. 8.8 this year, about 12 next.

Re: Trent Williams
So none of his salary is guaranteed is what you are saying. There was a player on the Vikings that I heard if we cut him after June 1st we would get a significant savings on. I thought it was Reiff. If not him then who?StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:56 pmPHP is correct, our cap savings don't change whether we cut or keep him.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:43 pm

Part of what made Diggs a good deal for Buffalo is they are getting him for IIRC about 5 million less per year than we were due to us eating the signing bonus. Something like that.

Re: Trent Williams
None is guaranteed, but there is more of a savings if cut after June 1st. 2 million more apparently, but I don't know how that part works at all.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:59 pmSo none of his salary is guaranteed is what you are saying. Re: Trent Williams
Yeah I might have mentioned it. All that means is if we wait until June 1st to cut or trade him then we can save $11 million and only soak $2 million in dead money. By trading or cutting him now, we soak more in dead money and only save $8.8. But no way we can wait until June 1st to go after Williams. If we do it, it’s gotta be now.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 6:59 pmSo none of his salary is guaranteed is what you are saying. But in the end, sure waiting until June 1 sounds better but if we can swing it by doing it now, pull the trigger. Williams will be off the redskins by June 1 whether it’s us or not. They aren’t cutting him, it’s going to be a trade. Cutting him would be pointless on their part, they aren’t hurting for cap. They could say Williams price tag is a 5th rounder and would probably have every team in the nfl calling them. They know they can get something whether it’s the bare minimum or not. They just don’t have much leverage in the sense of staying strong on their 2nd round pick asking price. Teams aren’t offering it so it’s forcing them to lower their price. They aren’t going to let him sit again. Unless they are insanely dumb, which they are so who knows. Maybe river boat Ron will knock some sense into them

How about this dream. 22, 25, and Harris for the 2nd pick in the draft. Reiff and Elflein for Williams.

Like that would happen, Vikings will need to give up #22, #25, Harris, and next year's first to move up to #2fiestavike wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 9:22 am How about this dream. 22, 25, and Harris for the 2nd pick in the draft. Reiff and Elflein for Williams.

That would be fair but Vikings will need to draft another tight end to team up with IrvFrozen Rope wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:26 pmWashington is in need of a tight end. How about Rudy for TW? Straight up trade.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 12:43 pm

Re: Trent Williams
Agreed. I would rather take my chances drafting a tight end rather than a rookie LT. The jury is still out on Bradbury. We really need help on that O line, amongst other positions.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:33 pmThat would be fair but Vikings will need to draft another tight end to team up with IrvFrozen Rope wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:26 pm

Re: Trent Williams
To give up 3 first round picks and an elite safety for #2? To draft what? Chase young? We have way too many holes and by trading all those picks away, it would drastically put us behind because not only are we low on cap but we would be trading away all of our draft capital.fiestavike wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 4:00 pmI'm in!RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 12:43 pm
