We’ve already gone over this. They didn’t cut him for bad play. If that was the case they would have let him go when they did Joseph and Rhodes. They cut him because he refused a pay cut.
He was making below average money for a starting guard and the Vikings felt that was too much for his production on the field.
Not to mention the pay cut they asked him to take probably would have saved them more money in cap than they saved from cutting him outright. Of course they are going to go that route first. It was the same thing with TN last year.

Also, you have someone like Reiff set to make over $13 million this year. Williams is going to be in the $14-$16 million range which I think is definitely warranted regardless of him being banged up here and there. It might honestly be better that he DID sit out for a year because you know he's fully healthy. And BV texted me saying Williams has kept in shape, still working hard, etc.
I think he's looking for $18 million or more. If he came in at $14 and in great shape that would be a steal. I could live with $16 million if Reiff is gone, but that will be tricky to afford.
Reiff is set to count 15 million against the cap next year. If the Vikings trade him, they will save 8.8 million. Trent will cost an extra 4 million roughly more than that this year, but an extension probably gets him down to a lower number. Next year you are looking at an extra 5 million realistically over Reiff. Not bad if Williams is indeed healthy.

According to spotrac, Reiff counts for $13.2 million Not $15 million.
Reiff is also the 2nd biggest cap hit on the team after Cousins. Just one more reason we need to get rid of him.

Why Vikings gave Reiff a 5 year 68 million dollars contract is beyond me

That's why we should only make the deal for Williams is with Reiff included.

It was 5 years, $58 million. And it was the market which is all about leverage. Matt Kalil got 5 years, $55 million. And Reiff is much better than Kalil. He wasn’t taking less than that

I think we trade for Williams and if not it makes you think they are not trying to make the playoffs next season whenever that is....give the redskins a 2nd and be done with it and cut Rief...the line will be much improved just doing those two moves and who knows it could end up being one of the best lines in the league and it will give Cousins confidence that he has time to look over the field

I’m pretty sure no team purposely tries to miss the playoffs

I agree would love to the Vikes offer Reiff, a second and actually of needed maybe even another rd pick this yr or next year.
Here is the sad fact, that even though we all knew it, getting it via text drove or home.
He just texted it's a shame that mr ex partner in mayhem isn't a FA at this point or you would be one ecstatic pruple fan cuz Trent would be your LT. Unfortunately the fact remains he is still technically Skins property, and they are more than likely play this dirtier than usual given the acrimony between the 2 sides.
I'm not saying it cant be done, but they are gonna make it as dirty and costly as possible.
He finished by saying trust me the Wash organization I initially signed with definitely made a major decline as an organization by the time I retired. It's not a desirable destination for players anymore.
Keep the faith Proff you may still get your man.
So who knows what will happen after all
I just wanna die as a Super Bowl Champion Viking Fan!!

Reiff is an average starting left tackle and cutting him would cost about 9 million against our cap. We can't cut him and afford Williams. He needs to be included in any trade for Williams. As for giving a second round pick for an older player coming off injury and then have to pay him a very large salary we can't afford that even though he is very good. Reiff and a 3rd I believe is as good an offer as Washington will get and if we are willing to do that they will cave sooner or later.
