If he is a troll, then simply talking about him feeds him as well.

Here's the thing. He is grating, stubborn, self-righteous and lacks tact. But he also is capable of being incisive, intuitively accurate with his conclusions, and funny, and he is, after all is said and done, a Vikings fan.

He has spent time on my foe list, primarily because of my inability to just dismiss some of his posts as "Demi being Demi", but with the "rebirth" of the message board, I decided I wanted to practice what I preached. I'm glad I did. It makes life more interesting. Plus, I have had some productive discussions with him in the past. Just try engaging him, you may be surprised. You get what you give.

Have fun with him. Prod him if you wish. Or ignore him.

I am still excited to see what these young players can do. If there is any silver lining, I think a season like this has come at the best possible time. We are displaced with no "home" stadium. We have a new coach and handful of young players. Now is the time to see what these guys are made of and sort out the weak and groom the strong. I do trust in Zimmer, he definitely has the potential and it seems like he has the smarts, but he's got to cut his teeth at head coach like anyone else new to a job. This is the perfect season to do that. I think by the time we step foot in our new stadium (maybe even next season), we will be a team capable of making a deep playoff run.
Well said by both of you.

Quite honestly, Teddy has me excited about this season, even if it's a hot/cold one. Not that I don't want the Vikings to always win, because I do. It's just that the Vikings have needed a franchise QB for a while now, and just maybe they have one. That's reason enough for me to rejoice.

Regarding the RB situation, I guess I might be in the "play McKinnon more often" camp. Asiata is a fine short yardage RB but I'd sure like to see McKinnon develop his skills. I think he has plenty of big runs in him once he gains experience.

I agree. Demi isn't a troll. I consider him our resident "contrarian". He performs a valuable function for our group - to keep us from all thinking alike.

He's far from a troll, Demi just calls it as he sees it and usually has a viable reason or emotion for his comments.

What conclusions does he make that deserve applause? He rarely posts anything in depth, and his entire stance on our organization is that the GM, QB, and most every other aspect of our team sucks. He has essentially stated there is no hope for our team to ever improve. There's not much to respect about his conclusions, and again, what is his purpose for stating this if it not to elicit an angry response?

But you're right, he definitely fits the adage "Don't feed the troll". Since the beginning of the season he's posted about 50 times across the entire board, but when we go down 42-0 with Ponder he posts 35 times in Vikings Talk in one night.

Um, I thought this thread was about Asiata's starts and not Troll Anatomy 101?

I've wondered why Asiata got it as well, especially since AP will most likely be out for the rest of the season. Asiata is IMO more of a fullback type player. Not straight up like Moe was, but more Moe-ish than AP-ish. McKinnon has the juice to really turn it on, and I think he can light up the field once he gets some experience. I would expect there to be more snaps for both McKinnon and Banyard soon.

Moe...Williams? He wasn't a FB.

I do think that Asiata has a valuable role on this team as a goal line back/pass protector, but I agree that I would like to see more of McKinnon.

This discussion seems to be reasonable and calm. I don't see an issue with it.

If you actually engage him and discuss things and lay out your arguments, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Maybe not. Maybe he's past the point of giving a crap what anyone thinks, and has become nothing but a gadfly. But I do know, if you just throw his statements back at him and pepper them with ruminations on his negativity, he'll pick them up and throw them again.

And he's pretty dang effective whatever his intent. He has me talking about him.

One good bet is that there will come a time this season when I am frustrated and don't want to hear him because I am just not in the mood for his approach. I'll foe him again and get some perspective back and then check in with him again. Such is life.

So let's change the title of the thread to "Is Demi a Troll or Not?" :P

One thing about Asiata. He rarely has a negative play. The guy works for every yard he can get. 2nd and 6 isn't so bad.

On the subtopic, this board wouldn't be the same without Demi, and his avatar.

DKSweets wrote:The board would be a lot more civil if Demi didn't intend to cause emotional responses in the first place, so your argument is not very valid. On a Vikings fan board, he nearly never has anything positive to say. He constantly uses the headbang and laughing smilies after his posts, giving the impression that others' opinions are stupid or laughable. To put it another way:
Demi's posts don't bother me though. What you are appealing to is that there is some objective standard here. The only objective standard is the personal attack.
DKSweets wrote: It says nothing about making it personal toward one poster. Are you really going to deny that Demi is a troll?
Like I said, I've never been bothered by him. Maybe I've just been desensitized from my days on ASFMV, but there were some there, and one in particular, who qualified as trolls in my opinion. Demi is not anywhere near that.

He's also very good at picking up a blitz, somethign McKinnon needs to work on.

I don't know if Demi can pick up a blitz, but I bet he can throw better than Ponde r:)

That's not the only objective standard here but it's one of the biggest. However, there are other rules and standards of behavior and one of the rules is that trolling is explicitly not permitted.
