Keep him. He has no leverage as he gets something like 2.9 mil last year of his rook deal. We have Wright, draft another this year along with a free agent and draft again next year and we can afford to lose him, either way.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

Problem is he wants Megatron sort of money and there's no way he's getting that from the Vikes, even though we are 16 mil under the cap.

He's a headache and a diva. Who knows how he's going to behave once he gets the money. Totally entitled. And injury prone.
Not worth the headache, not even close. Dump him!
Problem is Ponder is going to be the type of QB that requires good WR's to progress, like a Joe Flacco. And that's if he does progress in a 3rd season.

Given his unique and nontraditional skill set is he worth making a Top 4 paid WR? That's a tough question and one the Vikes need to decide the answer too.
I'll tell you use this I definitely wouldn't give him more guaranteed money than like the 16m Sidney Rice got.
That pretty much sums it up right there. And I'm not sure Harvin would want to come down from such high demands.

I'd still do it. For Minnesota, it's worth it. There are only a few teams where he fits and gets utilized the way Minnesota used him. If he gets a deal like Calvin's on a team with a good amount of weapons already, then they won't be optimizing what they can out of Percy, which would make the deal a waste. I really don't think that would be the case if he stays with the Vikings.
I think Percy is the most dynamic and versatile player in the NFL. If they kept him then they would only be another big time WR away from having their offense set for the rest of AP's prime. That is, hoping Ponder can remain consistent with his good play.
Plus, this is the NFL. If he really becomes so disgruntled that Minnesota is or if injuries become a serious problem, then they cut him and pay nothing (except for the upfront guarantee) and let another team pick up his salary.

It's a gamble, but you can't let players like him walk. And it's not like last season was the norm with games played. It was the first time he's missed more than two games.
If you let him go then you're opening more holes on the offense that need to be addressed when you have someone proven the way Harvin is. Besides, he's only 24 and just entered his prime. You have to be forward thinking with this and understand that the odds of find a player like Percy don't come around very often at all.
People are always scared off by the money, but this isn't the NBA. The offense will just about be set and with a few more players on D then they're back in contention and everyone forgets that the Vikings were real close to letting Percy walk.
Best case for a trade is a 2nd round pick and the odds are very much NOT in the Vikings favor to even come close to duplicating what they have in Percy.

But it's becoming more and more like the NBA every year, with ever higher percentages of contracts in guaranteed money. Signing Harvin to a five year, $50M contract might not be so bad, except that you know $25M or more will be guaranteed, and that's a lot to swallow if he continues to be a prima donna and the Vikings eventually get fed up with his act.PacificNorseWest wrote:People are always scared off by the money, but this isn't the NBA.

Percy is Percy. He's an extremely passionate dude and a fiery competitor who probably just wants to get paid. What he puts together on the field makes his fiery attitude more than tolerable. Nothing is full on wrong with that. He hasn't been busted for drug possession. No reports of beating women. He argues. Not everyone is a perfect lad like Larry Fitzgerald.
And this speculation drawn to him is a media driven ratings seeker. Because he didn't appear on a poster? Haha...That and one reporter who claims to have a source that says Minnesota is "actively" pursuing offers for Percy. While they may be listening to other teams' offers, I won't completely succumb to the ESPN hype-machine.
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out and to know what's really going on behind the scenes.
