We can make that 5.8 ypc and 23 carries after last night's game. It's that average and Asiata's versatility that appeal to me. Of course, Todman's breakaway speed could be a huge asset too. I don't think Asiata is a giant leap better than his competition but he consistently distinguished himself this preseason. It's going to be a tough call for the coaching staff.

Hopefully, if one of them doesn't make the cut he'll clear waivers and end up on the PS.

I'm not challenging either of you. I guess I'm wondering why Asiata earned his spot and someone like Todman hasn't. For starters, Todman's injury doesn't concern me, because his performance last night shows he's back. You guys are quoting stats. Todman had half the carries but nearly as much yardage and a better ypc than Asiata. He caught twice as many passes, has the same amount of TDs as Asiata, and can be a returner, if need be.

As I said, Craig, it's a tough call and I agree that the choice boils down to those two backs. I think a strong case could be made for keeping either of them so I don't think Asiata is clearly a better choice or that he's earned a roster spot and Todman hasn't. I think they've both shown they're worth a spot but unfortunately, there may only be one spot available. I love Asiata's running style and productivity but Todman brings big play ability that Asiata doesn't and that's impossible to ignore. I'd like both of them to be make the team in some capacity. I've seen more of Asiata so that may be why I give him the edge but I won't complain if either of them ends up on the 53 man roster. I just hope the other at least ends up on the practice squad.

The issue is Asiata has proven it in OTAs, minicamps and four preseason games. Todman has been injured for quite awhile. You can't properly evaluate someone if they can't practice or play (Frazier said as much himself). I'm not saying Todman isn't worthy of the #3 spot, but you have to take into account a player's body of work and Asiata has one. I'd be fine if they kept both somehow, but I'm more comfortable with Asiata due to the fact that he's proven himself quite well in each game he's played this season (and reports out of camp). There's more of a sample size to draw conclusions and properly evaluate. If Todman had been healthy, perhaps a better case could be made for him. As it stands due to what I have personally seen, Asiata merits the #3 spot. If you want to go on pure upside, after last night I can see Todman inching ahead. And if you want a "change of pace" type of back from Toby and AD, Todman is probably the guy you want due to his speed. I love Todman's speed. I love Asiata's vision and cutback ability (he's not exactly slow either).

Honestly, having two capable #3 backs is a nice problem to have.

Also saw the Eagles cut WR Marvin McNutt. Being the Iowa guy I am, I'd love to see him in Purple. He was productive and at one point considered a third-round prospect.

I think what shouldn't be overlooked in the Asiata/Todman debate is that Asiata also can play fullback, so keeping him over Todman fills two spots rather than just one.

But as has been said before, I'd really like to see both make the club. Keep Asiata in a FB/reserve RB role and Todman as the #3 RB

Just to add to this: Of all the preseason games to judge a guy on, wouldn't the last preseason game be the least effective? Especially the 2nd half of the last preseason game.
