Jets at Vikings (London)

Post by CharVike »

I guess the Jets have a good defense but the 49ers had no problem scoring. Rookie Nix put up an embarrassment last week so being an older rookie QB didn't help much. They do bring pressure and get sacks so solid blocking is mandatory. They can't allow free rushers. Rodgers took an awful beating last week and was limited in practice. I don't see a 40 year old springing back quickly and their OL as usual struggles to block. Flores will attack and try to lay some hits on him. If he makes it through the game I'll be surprised. Getting off to a quick start has been key for us so far. If we don't turn the ball over I don't see us losing. I see it 24-13 us.

Hopefully the blitzes get there. The defense really needs to force that pressure quickly or things tend to fall apart. Which of course happens when you rush 5 or more, somebody is going to be open if someone doesn't get pressure. If Rodgers has any time at all it's going to be ugly.

You're absolutely correct about the offensive line. They've been really good thus far, hopefully they can keep it up. The Vikings definitely have the weapons to make them pay if they blitz too much.

The Vikings are the favorites for the first time in 3 games so that makes me nervous. I'm not super stitious but I'm a little bit stitious.

I don't know if this belongs on the thread, but to any Vikings fan that can make the London game, can you guys make a huge UMMM sign? Every time Sam Darnold throws a TD, just hold it up to the TV cameras so we all can see.

Eventually we just replace every word with UMMMM. Just have whole thread conversations about Sam Darnold with just using the word UMMM.

I think this game all boils down to our running game (and zero fumbles from our running game) and our punter.
Weird weather - rainy and a little windy, some sunshine early.
Rodgers will pick us apart if he has time. He won't have time if we run the ball well.
We won't need Darnold to fire balls into small holes on 3rd and 12 if we can run the ball well.
We shouldn't have to settle for FG's if we run the ball well.
Our D shouldn't get gassed if we run the ball well.
Ingram is our weakest link both run and pass pro, but the other OL are all above average run blockers.
If our punter has a good game (or of course a zero-punt game), we will do well.

Sorry London, another boring game for you but not for me. We run the ball well, we win 24-16.

As an aside, do you think all London fans wonder why the "run and gun" games they watch on TV from the States never seem to show up in London anymore? Will a futue London game EVER have a "fast track", or are they resigned to rainy, somewhat boring NFL games for all of eternity? In the last eight games since 2021, the highest scoring team is us, with 28 points in a win against the Saints.

Agreed we need pressure on Rodgers as often as possible. You know if he gets hit a couple of times he is going to get frustrated and start yelling at his players. A couple of their OL are banged up.
You just never know what versions of teams are going to show up in London. Let's keep it rolling! :smilevike:  :v): :appl:

Listen to any Sam Darnold press interview. Take a shot everytime you hear him say the word ummm. You're dead now, you're welcome.

This game is going to come down to 2 matchups - the Jet pass defense against the Vikings pass offense, and the Vikings ability to pressure Rodgers. The Jets have maybe the best secondary in the league from a pure talent standpoint. They'll play a lot of tight man coverages and dare Darnold and the Vikings receivers to beat them. Even if Darnold is given time by the OL, he's going to have to be on point and make some tough throws. Had I not watched the 2nd half of that last game against a much weaker Packer secondary I'd be pretty sure the Vikings would be up for the task. Now, I'm not as sure. Whatever the Vikings do, they've got to sustain drives and balance out TOP.

On the defensive side of the ball I expect the Vikings to stop a pretty anemic Jet running game. The Jet OL has not been great to this point and their offensive output has been pretty shaky whether running or passing. I like the matchups here across the board with the Vikings front 7. But, there is that little problem of Aaron Rodgers. Granted, he's not been great this year either and he's pretty old at this point, so it's possible he's not even capable of truly lighting up a secondary like he's been doing most of his career. But, the second half of last week's game is still there fresh in my mind. If a hobbled Jordan Love can light up the Vikings secondary with the receivers he had to work with, it stands to reason an aging Rodgers could do the same with the ones he has. So pressure on Rodgers is going to be important. The Vikings have been good at creating pressure on opposing QBs, and they did it last week against Love as well, but here is yet another stiff test of their ability to disrupt the passing game of another reasonably talented opponent.

Man, once the Vikings play the Lions the rest of the schedule should feel like a breath of fresh air. What a brutal slate of opponents it has been to open this season. The Jets aren't as good as the 49ers or Texans, IMHO, but still, they are a dangerous team that could easily hand the Vikings their first loss of the season if the team plays remotely like they did in the 2nd half against the Packers.

With that said, I don't see the first loss here. I'm going:

Vikings - 24
Jets - 21

I hadn't listened to a Darnold press conference until just now so I didn't get the joke, but he pretty much prefaces every thought with UMMM...

Jets are going to missing a few key pieces. We seem pretty healthy. Let's hope it continues.

Our punt coverage & punt return teams are extremely undisciplined.

Huge getting that FG. Reichard will end his career as one of the best Kickers to ever play the game.
