When I first heard the Tua comments I figured Flores would just shrug them off, sounds like they bothered him however. I'd be curious to hear his side of things, how he thought he was treating Tua and if it was a motivational tactic or he really was down on him as a QB. Does appear he didn't know how Tua perceived things.

Re: Tua Fallout
I looked last night for a thread I thought we had here actually.
There were rumors when we hired Flores that Tua, and others, really ummm hated playing for him. That it was more than just tough love.
There's a bunch of weird dynamics at play. Flores didn't dispute anything Tua said, so I tend to think true. I also think Flores is very careful with public comments regarding anything with Dolohins due to law suit.

Re: Tua Fallout
Sounds to me like Tua is a whiny little diva b*tch who responds badly to criticism, but that's just me.

Don't you want the best version of your investment? I've never understood otherwise. You can't coach, lead, or treat everyone the same way.
Telling someone they suck every day at what they do, that they don't belong, etc, isn't constructive criticism. If you never build anyone up, tearing them down generally yields bad results. It's leadership 101. Beat a dog every day and what happens eventually?
Flores said today he's evolved since then. IMHO that's a little acknowledgement on his part.

Re: Tua Fallout
That's a great remark from Flores. I don't know the details of what happened to him down in Miami but he's getting a chance here. I'm not a fan of a 3-4 because we only have run it with Steckel and now KOC. I just think KOC took the approach this is what I've seen work so I'll use. That's fine but the initial roster was full of 4-3 guys. We were weak as hell at LBer and you need 4 of them along with depth. Plus it takes 3 NT type of players on the DL. Then you need the back end. That sounds like a long road to nowhere. So far that's exactly what it's been.makila wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 8:14 pm Don't you want the best version of your investment? I honestly took it as a little bit of a jab at Tua. He saidmakila wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 8:14 pm Don't you want the best version of your investment? I've never understood otherwise. You can't coach, lead, or treat everyone the same way.

"Look, I'm human. That hit me in a way that I wouldn't say was positive. I've got to use that and say 'How can I grow from that? How can I be better?"
In other words, he's kind of flipping it back and saying "You said something negative about me and instead of whining I'm going to work to be better."

The rest of the comments made me think that he's acknowledging he's tried to change since then.
"I think there's things that I can do better for sure, and I've grown in that way," Flores told reporters. "I've tried to apply the things that I can do better and the things that I've learned over the last 2-3 years."
If he is trying to say that Tua should have taken his negative comments and tried to grow, I just don't agree fully with that. There is a difference between constructive feedback and tearing their confidence apart. IMHO.

Re: Tua Fallout
I think it's a little of both. Acknowledging that he needs to grow, while also saying that even though it came at him in a negative way he's learning from it.makila wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 12:00 pmAhh interesting take. I could see that.Cliff wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 10:45 am
