Tired of the arguing about Cousins?
Let's talk about the Giants!
Giants Ranks:
Offense
7th yds/gm Passing - 274
8th yds/gm Rushing - 129
16th points/gm - 21.8
Defense
21st allowing 24.2 pts/gm
19th against run - 109 yds/gm, 3.9 avg/carry
25th against pass - 279.5 yds/gm, 9.3 per completion
14th in sacks - 10
Vikings Ranks:
Offense
31st yds/gm Passing - 169
3rd yds/gm rushing - 155.2
18th points/gm - 21
Defense
6th allowing 15.8 pts/gm
11th against run - 103 yds/gm, 3.7 avg/carry
9th against pass - 218.5 yds/gm, 6.5 per completion
10th(tied) in sacks - 11
Vikings have obviously been really bad passing the football this year, but pretty good running it(by average, last game was terrible). Giants on the other hand have been pretty balanced.
Vikings defense on paper is a good step ahead of the Giants especially against the pass. The Giants have actually allowed fewer completions and a lower completion rate than the Vikings, but have one of the highest averages at 9.3 per completion. Vikings really need to hit some deeper passes in this game. The stats are per season and one could argue the Giants are different now with the QB change, but there isn't much data already in 4 games so just going by the season so far

Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
At this point in this season the only thing that matters is how Cousins plays. This is a terrible defensive unit. Cousins need to show up and prove it. Everything else is window dressing.
Even if Cousins puts up 400 yards passing and 4 TDs it won't matter. Giants are a bad defensive team. Until he beats a team with a winning record, he will have a cloud over his head.

We are a veteran 500 team that can't beat a good team. IMO our team thinks Cousins sucks. the OL sucks and the entire offensive philosophy sucks. Our two OCs can't even agree on what to do. It'll be another offensive cluster F, our D will get smoked for one quarter and won't be able to make a play and the special..... No fun to watch. It's the ultimate mean nothing game. We don't even have a young kid to watch. Unless you like seeing Bradberry getting his #### kicked. The kid might be a very good player some day but he should be watching right now. He needed to get bigger and stronger first. Especially with two stiff Gs next to him. I wish I could post a positive but I don't know what that is right now. At least the Giant fans can watch a kid QB play. They suck but have something to watch. I'd rather see that on our side. Maybe next year.

It's on the road, so they might still lose, but the Giants aren't good either. Daniel Jones has played well against 2 bad defenses. Vikings aren't all-world, but they are pretty decent on D.
The world will burn if the Vikings lay another egg on Offense though.

Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
I think the upcoming game is not where Stefanski tries to get Cousins going so much as he will try to re-establish the running game. It was horrible against the Bears. Admittedly, the Bears are a good run defense, but I don't think Stefanski is going to fundamentally alter the overall approach just to give Cousins a kick in the pants.
That doesn't mean Cousins won't get his chances, however. He will, and he will have an opportunity to show if he can produce against a demonstrably weaker overall defense.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Vikings go off on the Giants. That seems to be their pattern - they can roll against second-tier competition on both sides of the ball. Put them up against better competition and that is where they seem to struggle. On both sides of the ball, albeit a little less defensively.
It will be interesting to see if this QB for the Giants goes off on the vaunted Vikings defense. He's looked pretty good and if Chase Daniels can get it done, my guess is the Giants QB will too. While I don't expect major changes in terms of how the Vikings offense approaches the game, I'm almost more intrigued to see how the Vikings defense approaches things, especially if the Giants drive the field early like the Bears did.

Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
I don't see Daniel Jones doing a lot against the Vikings' defense. He's faced pretty bad defenses thus far, and the right side of the Giants' line is a mess -- that's where Danielle Hunter lives. Jones is a rookie who has not faced a defensive front like ours. We're not the Bears because we don't have Mack. But we're still pretty darned ferocious up front. The key is that we cannot -- CAN NOT -- have another bad defensive first quarter. Give a talented kid confidence, and you never know what will happen.
One worry for me is that Saquon Barkley has already been seen running and cutting with training staff after suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 2. He was supposed to be out eight weeks, so I doubt he plays, but you never know. Some guys like AP heal ridiculously fast.
As some have said, it won't really matter what our offense does against a very poor Giants defense. We could score 50 points and put up 500 yards, but until they do it against a quality opponent, I won't trust this team on offense. I'm sick of us blowing out the Oaklands of the world and getting our a$$es cut against teams like the Bears.
On paper, there is no way this game should be close. But as the Vikings have proven, especially on the road, "on paper" doesn't mean a thing. They've got to get it done.
If we're going to make the playoffs, we've got to win this game. We've got Philly, at Detroit, at KC, at Dallas, at Seattle, and at San Diego left on our schedules, not to mention the home games against Detroit, Green Bay and Chicago. The only games we'll be a definitive favorite after this week THE REST OF THE SEASON are Washington and Denver at home. We lose this, and the season could get real ugly, real fast.

The world won't burn over this. I won't kill myself over this either. As Bud Grant said it's only entertainment. But I'm not being entertained by this. That's what I was getting at. But this forms a good read and there are some knowledgeable people on here. Even to others it appears they are starting to give up hope. I can understand that. I was a firm Cousins supporter and was happy when they signed him. But he was available for a reason. Some felt it was a Skins mess up. It is what it is at this point. But I don't see playoffs. Sorry.Dames wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 2:41 pmDamn bro... you need some positive mental energy in your life.CharVike wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 2:19 pm We are a veteran 500 team that can't beat a good team. Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
Pretty much my thoughts, definitely a game we should win, but even if we do no ones going to care until we see the Vikings play well against a GOOD team and WIN. Sure it would be nice to watch the Vikings beat the giants 40-7 however no ones going to go around tooting our horn until we beat a good team.mansquatch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 2:16 pm At this point in this season the only thing that matters is how Cousins plays. Couldn't agree more. Too bad Zig didn't add a clause to his contract regarding wins against teams over. 500.mansquatch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 2:16 pm At this point in this season the only thing that matters is how Cousins plays. Sadly the Giants stats are a bit bloated from playing the Skins last week. Yes. These are their bloated stats.Crax wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 1:01 pm Tired of the arguing about Cousins?

Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
What intrigues me most about this matchup are the potential insights Zimmer and Shurmur may have into how the other coach thinks. How might that play out in the game?
Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
Good point. We should be able to have an easy day. But who knows. Shurmur has a QB that seems to be a decent passer, mobile and has a lot to prove. Defense better not get complacent.

Re: Giants Pre-Game thread
They really need to just let cousins play and throw the ball. Especially in our next two games. The giants and eagles have very weak pass defenses. And the eagles are good vs the run. These coordinators have to find what fits cousins best and run with it. And that’s not constant under center and 7 step drops. Cousins shredded the eagles last year.mansquatch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 2:16 pm At this point in this season the only thing that matters is how Cousins plays. This is a terrible defensive unit. What I don’t get is how our passing game was so much better last year compared to this year. Cousins obviously trusts Thielen and Diggs, they both had career years last year. I think a lot of this is more on the coordinators than anyone. Cousins showed us he could pass last year. And practically his whole career. He doesn’t just turn into a dud passing the ball given what he’s shown in the past. Stefanski and Kubiak need to be more creative with this pass offense.
I’m starting to think this offense was just as bad of a fit for cousins as flips was. Cousins needs shurmurs offense. Where defenses are on their toes because they have no idea if we will run or pass. With flip it was non-stop passing. To the point where NE and Seattle were doubling and tripling Diggs and thielen because they knew we wouldn’t run it. With Stefanski it’s non stop running. Where teams are now loading the box on cook. Is it really that hard to balance an offense? We have a QB that can throw the ball, we have a RB that can run the ball, we have weapons on the outside, granted our OL is weak but still, this shouldn’t be a hard thing to figure out. Does Zim have more control of the offense than we think and is stressing the run non stop to save his defenses legs? I’m starting to wonder because there is no reason we should have at worst an average passing offense with cousins throwing the ball
