Second half of the season.
So, for the second 8 games of the season it turns out that the best team in the NFC North was the: Vikings.
Vikings 4-3-1
Packers 3-4-1
Bears 3-5
Lions 2-6
To bad they didn't do better in the first half of the season. Granted Packer fans will talk about Rodger being hurt, Bears fans will talk about Cutler being hurt. But the Vikings had injuries as well. AD was not 100%, we brought up players from the practice squad for the defensive backfield. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. At least it's something positive to end the year.

Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966

We looked much better when Patterson, Rhodes, and Cassel started playing....weird.Raptorman wrote:So, for the second 8 games of the season it turns out that the best team in the NFC North was the: Vikings.

Actually I would argue the injuries helped us. It forced Frazier to play the better players more over his favorite players.

Re: Second half of the season.
Just a few complete and utter defensive collapses away from playoffs.
Obviously we need to get a competent QB in here, but if we can plug a few holes on defense, with a new coaching staff, we could be a decent team going forward.

Re: Second half of the season.
Because Fraizer doesn't understand talent. He didn't make any of the good choices until he had to. He is slo slow in any of his decisions. And time/game management. The only reason we won more games later on is because the better players were out there. Its that simple.Reignman wrote:Actually I would argue the injuries helped us. Re: Second half of the season.
Nor do I think Spielman did a good job. The combination of the too, and look at what we have. Still no QB...
Re: Second half of the season.
And a complete look at the 2nd half of the season standings. Oh if only we could forget the 1st half haha. We'd win the North, have the 4th seed, and we'd host Arizona in the wildcard next week.

Yes, and that's nice after a 1-7 start.Raptorman wrote:So, for the second 8 games of the season it turns out that the best team in the NFC North was the: Vikings.

They certainly had their chances. They lost too many close games and blew that big lead in Green Bay to end up in a tie. I'm glad they never quit, glad they finished off the season (and the Metrodome) on a positive note and I'm especially glad they showed the people who were predicting their worst record ever, that they wouldn't win another game, etc. that you just shouldn't give up.
It's too bad a few more of those close games didn't go their way. They might have won the division.
Re: Second half of the season.
smoke and mirrors. Other than the Eagles having a bad road game we couldn't beat a good team. Even an average Baltimore Ravens team we couldn't put away, even when they were giving us the game. Defensive collapses the first 4 weeks,. All we needed to do was win ONE of those first 2 road division games and the Vikings season would have changed....and they should've won BOTH!
Re: Second half of the season.
I think this is exactly why they're looking for a new head coach and staff right now.
Re: Second half of the season.
Yep, from the sound of Spielman's presser and my own feeling, this team should have been around 8-8 and if you double the second half record you get 8-6-2. Unfortunately it just took Frazier way to long to get the needed talent on the field that ultimately lead to those 2nd half of the season wins off the bench.Eli wrote:I think this is exactly why they're looking for a new head coach and staff right now.
