Odd. I hope he is ok. It is always scary when someone reacts like this to something seemingly harmless.

I wish I knew exactly what has been said (and done), who did it, and how often it was being done. I gather his teammates were bringing his family into their jokes and treating him like a pariah. My visceral reaction is to be livid on his behalf and to remind myself that this is an educated man who didn't realize that he was entering into the field of zoology when he walked into an NFL locker room. But then I remember my trip to Mankato a few years back for training camp, and my distinct impression that the players generally came across as human beings and not as Neanderthals. So I recognize that the issue may be more his than theirs.PurpleMustReign wrote:Odd. I hope he is ok. It is always scary when someone reacts like this to something seemingly harmless.
Honestly, without knowing substantially all of the facts, it is probably inappropriate for anyone to jump to any conclusion here. I for one would like to have those facts. I appreciate Martin for being an instrumental cog in the resurgence of my Stanford Cardinal and am certainly pulling for the guy.

Keep in mind that the infamous Richie Incognito is a member of that Dolphins o-line. Guy has a reputation for being a world class a-hole and all-around horrible ####. I have a hunch that he factors into all of this somehow.

Re: Dolphins lineman Jonathan Martin reportedly goes AWOL
Yeah. He's being investigated about it. Sounds as if this has been going on since he was drafted, and it went well beyond the typical "hazing" given to young players. They refer to it as harassment and say he was part of "an abusive environment." It sounds as if the front office knew about it too--and did nothing. It's just sad, really, that they'd target one *kid* out like that. Really? They had to know that he wasn't fond of their jokes. I mean, we all have people in our lives that we can joke with and those that we can't...guess what? Most of us DON'T joke with the ones that we can't. But this sounds like it was much worse than the typical fun and jokes we're used to, and it sounds like everyone dropped the ball. Just glad he's getting help--and those idiots now know that this is all out in the open. Maybe they'll knock it off, because they're. just. not. all. that. funny. I hope they finish last now.HornedMessiah wrote:Keep in mind that the infamous Richie Incognito is a member of that Dolphins o-line. This Incognito guy seems like a ####. Now he's going after Adam Schefter on Twitter. Real mature. Interesting that Martin hasn't filed a complaint formally because he is afraid of retaliation. Clearly, he has some issues, but this seems like something that was ugly from the start.

Re: Dolphins lineman Jonathan Martin reportedly goes AWOL
Schefter said in his report that there are things going on with the Dolphins that allegedly go beyond the normal NFL locker room practices (like leaving the rookies with huge tabs). My problem with this comment is that I couldn't care less what's normal and what isn't. in that environment. It's normal for politicians to lie. Does that make it OK? I want to hear what's going on, and I'll decide for myself whether I think it's acceptable.PurpleMustReign wrote:This Incognito guy seems like a ####. Now he's going after Adam Schefter on Twitter. My best guess is that a number of NFL locker rooms put up with stuff that never would be tolerated in a truly professional environment. Martin probably thought he was entering a professional environment when he left the protected environment at Stanford and joined his "adult" occupation, but little did he know that Blutarsky and Randall P. McMurtry would be running the asylum. Honestly, though, nothing like that should have come as a complete shock. He plays in what has been called a collision sport. It's great fun for us fans, but probably not the healthiest environment if you're a sensitive young man and find yourself living with some of these clowns.
I'll be interested in seeing what happens to his career. I bet the Colts would take him if the Dolphins don't want him.

Richie Incognito - G - Dolphins
The threatening voicemail Richie Incognito left for Jonathan Martin has been revealed and heard by both the Dolphins and the NFL.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has the vile quotes from April. "Hey, wassup, you half n----- piece of (expletive). I saw you on Twitter, you been training ten weeks. (I want to) (expletive) in your (expletive) mouth. (I'm going to) slap your (expletive) mouth. (I'm going to) slap your real mother across the face (laughter). (Expletive) you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you." Jonathan Martin has left the team and Incognito has been suspended indefinitely. According to Schefter, this type of abuse was not an isolated incident. Martin also has text messages from Incognito.

Richie Incognito - G - Dolphins
A "ranking club source" tells the Miami Herald LG Richie Incognito is "done" with the Dolphins.
"There are procedures in place and everyone wants to be fair," the source said. "But from a club perspective he'll never play another game here." The Herald reports Incognito is planning to defend himself in a " robust manner," but it's not going to matter. The Dolphins are tired of Incognito's antics, which appear to have gone well beyond "antics" with Jonathan Martin. Now on the wrong side of 30 and a volatile personality going back to his days at Nebraska, it's quite possible Incognito's career is through, as well.

Richie Incognito - G - Dolphins
One NFL personnel man told USA Today's Tom Pelissero that Richie Incognito's career is likely over.
Incognito bullied Dolphins OT Jonathan Martin to the point that he essentially had a mental meltdown and left the team. "Lol," the personnel man replied when asked by Pelissero whether Incognito will be claimed off waivers. "I think he can file his retirement papers." Incognito graded out as a top-13 guard in Pro Football Focus' ratings, so his loss is a concern on the field.
