Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
Ponder's legs=great
Ponder's arm=not so much
Marcus Sherels had a great game, as did Harrison Smith. Why was there no help on that side of the field on the Brown's TD?
AD is trying to find his groove. He did well considering he was facing one of the best run Ds in the NFL.
No imagination whatsoever, offensively or defensively.
Erin Henderson had a nice game and the D finally showed up after spotting the Browns 17 points (I'm not going to blame them for the fake FG).
Want to fire someone? Let's consider the OL coach and the DL coach. Something is VERY wrong n the trenches and it is not a lack of talent. It's a lack of putting these guys in a position to make plays on the DL and improving their game on the OL. I refuse to believe Loadholt and Co. cannot be coached up.
Let's get real. No one is firing Musgrave or Frazier, so stop demanding it. I do not think benching Ponder is beyond the realm of possibility, and I would do it now if it were my call. I can't fault the kid for his fire today, but the skills just don't seem to be there.

AD is fine. There isn't a groove he needs to find, he needs to find a new QB so the defense can't just stack the box.

He's not struggling, but even he admits he is not running as well as he could.GoldenBear91 wrote:AD is fine. There isn't a groove he needs to find, he needs to find a new QB so the defense can't just stack the box.

Re: Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
THat is the politically correct way to say "my qb sucks and my oline needs to block better"
Re: Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
Pretty bad when the Browns third string quarterback is a better passer than the Vikings starter...
Re: Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
I agree on Spielman but I don't think Frazier is safe at all. He has no contract next year, they could easily fire him mid-season ala Mr. Childress.BGM wrote:Let's get real. Forget Ponder's arm. It's his decision making and field vision that are his downfall. It's why you have dead accurate, 6'5", 4.4 forty QBs who are bagging groceries instead of playing in the NFL. That last drive was ridiculous. You can't check down passes in the middle of the field when you have to score a TD and have 70 yards to go in 47 seconds.
Marcus Sherels isn't the best coverage guy, but he sure can tackle. Shades of Antoine Winfield.
Peterson looks like he's lost something. I don't know about overall speed, but he's being tackled easier and looks like he's lost some quickness. He's getting horrible blocking, but he's made big plays before out of exactly the same situations. Happens to the best of them.
The Vikings did finally figure out that they could blitz a QB who doesn't see the field well. And it worked. But Hoyer had some great accuracy and was working with a couple of good receivers. The Browns also had very good pass blocking.
This game was lost on the line, no doubt about it. Bad pass protection, bad run blocking, and very little pass rush by the front four. Jared Allen was a no-show again, playing against a very good left tackle. He'll have to wait until he plays some 3rd string tackles to rack up his 12.5 sacks this season.

Pretty fair summary. If I was the owner I'd sit down right now and go over my staff and see if I think anyone on the staff has the ability to take over and relieve Frazier tonight. If not then we're stuck with this for the yr.BGM wrote:Ponder's legs=great

Coaches don't get fired after three games and two close losses.Captain wrote:Pretty fair summary. Re: Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
Other than Gordon, I don't really see any really good receivers. Bess was undrafted and picked up from Miami for a very late (7th?) round pick. Greg Little hasn't done anything in two years.Eli wrote:The Vikings did finally figure out that they could blitz a QB who doesn't see the field well. And it worked. Re: Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
I would say Frazier is safe for now. They stink it up in London, go 0-4, and I say he might get canned.
This season is over. Vikings have to go 10-3 now just to get a wildcard spot. Not happening folks.
I say stick with Ponder. Let him develop. What is Cassell going to do anyways? Get us a few more wins in a meaningless season?
This is just a disgusting day for Vikings fans.

Yes, Gordon and Cameron alone were too much for the Vikings pass coverage. You don't need 8 great receivers to win a football game.Purple Jesus wrote: What about Cameron? Dude had 3 TD's.
Re: Game vs. Browns - Quick Hits
I think that speaks more about our coverage issues than quality of the player. Not to take anything away from Cameron, I just don't see him as one of the better TE's in the league.Purple Jesus wrote: What about Cameron? Dude had 3 TD's.
