Eagles Chiefs

Post by The Breeze »

I'm pretty excited to watch this game tonight.
Chip Kelly...Andy Reid's return to Philly. Chris Ault helping run KCs offense and Alex Smith getting designed running plays just for him.

I think these two teams are on the edge of a lot of good things on offense. Will be interesting to see what KCs defense can do with Vick and this offense.

Well, that Chief defense is pretty special...and their offense has great balance with the pistol formation, Alex Smith's smart play and Charles running the ball. Will be very interesting to see how they match up against the Broncos.

They are a good team for sure.

So much about that game made me smile. Always enjoy watching the Eagles struggle, even though I am intrigued by Chip Kelly and am interested to see how his approach develops in the NFL.

I'm also looking forward to Kelly establishing his system...but Andy Reid really impressed me last night. He has that team turned around and playing sound football.

I forgot how good a coach he is.

I finally watched a full Chiefs game, and hadn't seen any full Niners game in the last two years. Alex Smith is fast and mobile as heck, and has a rifle arm, long and short passes. Tell me what I'm missing. Why is Colin Kaepernick so much better, or was it a minimal decision? Maybe I'm just a fan of the Chiefs, behind the Vikes of course, and I'm pulling for Smith...I don't know!

Alex Smith...took him awhile to find his pro game, but he is a stud. The guy can do it all and with Reid he'll only continue.

I suspect that Harbaugh was more impressed with Kaepernick's upside and future...I mean, that guy is special too. Plus Harbaugh drafted him, whereas Smith had been there for quite some time.
In any event, the Niners have had an amazing run of QBs since Montana.

I have wanted Alex Smith on this team for the last couple of off-seasons. We should have pulled the trigger this last offseason. Alex Smith is never going to go Aaron Rodgers on a defense, but ####, he has played three full games without a turnover. Ponder has 5 turnovers in 2 games. I guarantee that if Alex Smith was our QB we would be 2-0 instead of 0-2 right now.

Look at Smith's stats his first three years.http://www.nfl.com/player/alexsmith/2506340/careerstats The Viking faithfull would have wanted him run out of town just like they do Ponder. Compare the stats for your self and remember Smith played for much better teams his first three years. Ponders stats: http://www.nfl.com/player/christianpond ... areerstats.

Alex Smith is a prime example of why stats are worthless.

I don't know why you think Smith played for much 'better' teams in his first three years. He did not. The 49ers were terrible to average until around 2009. Alex Smith was a spread QB taken first overall to fit a west-coast offense in 2005. They threw him in the fire in San Fran waaayyy too early and he suffered because of it. Not to mention he had a revolving door at offensive coordinator and head coach. Alex Smith was never set up to succeed in San Francisco.

Remind me exactly who his receivers were? Cannot think of them? Remember Arnaz Battle? Taylor Jacobs? Eric Johnson? Ashlee Lelie? I doubt it. Hell, Vernon Davis was a rookie in 2006 and in 2007 he was struggling with drops.

How about Alex Smith's offensive line? Kwamme Harris was the only decent player he played with. Larry Allen was old as #### when he was on the roster. Joe Staley was a rookie in 2007. Adam Synder was one of Alex Smith's guards for christ sakes.

It is no coincidence that Alex Smith's play improved drastically in 2008 and has been on the rise ever since. 2008 is when some decent talent started to fill the roster in San Francisco. I never once said Alex Smith is the next Aaron Rodgers at QB. However, if you truly do not think for one second he is an upgrade over Christian Ponder you are delusional.

Way to twist things around
I was trying to compare the two QBs stats their first years in the league. HOW could have things been any worse for Ponder than being thrown in without a training camp and a group of crappy receivers (not Harvin) You think the 49ers were a worse team than 3-13 when Ponder came in  Here is a quote from the from sporting news "2008: With former number one draft pick Alex Smith being labeled a bust, J.T. O'Sullivan started the season as the 49ers Quarterback. After losing the season opener to the Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers showed some resilience as O'Sullivan overcame seven sacks as the 49ers stunned the Seattle Seahawks on the road in overtime 33-30. A week later the 49ers would look strong again beating up the Detroit Lions 31-13. However, the 49ers would drop their next four games, costing Coach Mike Nolan his job. After a 14-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the 49ers would close the season on a strong note, winning their last two games to post a 7-9 record."
I guess if the 49ers would have given up on him like you cynics want to with Ponder, he would not have had a much of a chance to succeed. It takes some QBs more than 2 full seasons to develop.
