Burton VRS Webb
I thought there used to be a poll option as a thread? Oh well.
Im interested in who you would like to see make the team more, Burton or Webb. Burton, having the spot handed to him a few years in a row and doing nothing with it. Or Webb, who, to me, is exactly what we need on the outside, a big Megatron type WR. Webbs first year, and to me, he should already have the job. He is more athletic, a better blocker, faster, better hands, and a better route runner (and doesn't stop mid route to make Ponder look even worse). Yet I read people talking about Burton having the job already. Whats your opinion? As much as I disliked Webb at QB, I like him at WR, and he is a rookie.

Re: Burton VRS Webb
Ponder is in his fifth year. And Webb is a rookie.
Not sure why our 5th WR is that big of a deal. They were talking about it on KFAN earlier. Neither of these guys is likely to make that big of a difference. Webb has potential I guess, but apparently so does Burton?
I'll say Webb, and use him as the emergency QB, use MBTs roster spot for someone else. At least it gives you an opening. Maybe keep Webb and Burton if you were considering three QB? Rather have more depth and future potential at WR than a journeyman #3 QB who will never see the field.

Cause we don't have any big WRs? And he is in his rookie year as w WR if I have t spell that out for ya. And any improvement to the WRs is a big deal. The powers that be have forgotten them almost as much as the rotten QB's we have.Demi wrote:Ponder is in his fifth year. And Webb is a rookie.

I agree with this, an hope this is the way they go. Webb showed he can get up and catch the high ball, something that I dont' think Burton can do.

Re: Burton VRS Webb
It was only a couple years ago they were giving him some offseason work at WR. He played WR a year in college. He knows the offense and the plays. He isn't a guy who they just moved to WR out of the blue without any work there before....PurpleKoolaid wrote: Cause we don't have any big WRs? Re: Burton VRS Webb
Still not sure what the big deal is with Burton, but the team must like him. He an amazing practice player or something?
Re: Burton VRS Webb
I feel like both deserve a roster spot, and MBT will be shuffled to the practice squad. If you're down to your third QB, you're screwed anyways. Might as well do some pistol/option type plays (possibly even Wildcat) with Peterson and Joe Webb. I doubt that's what they would do, but that's what I think is best...
But if I can only keep one, I think it would be Webb.

No contest. Webb. Drop both players and see how fast they get picked up. Webb gets picked up faster than Burton, easy. We've seen enough of Burton for several years now - why bother?
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

I'm with the consensus. If I had to choose it'd be Webb. I see why they like Burton....he almost pulled down that bad pass from Ponder with one hand, he blocks well, and he seems to get open...he has skills. But the knock has been consistency and I can't really comment on that about him.
My gut says that if they only keep two QBs they won't keep an extra WR, it'll be a DB or LB.

Re: Burton VRS Webb
The reason a lot of us have mentioned two QBs is the idea that Joe Webb can focus on being a wide receiver, but if we needed our emergency #3 QB he still knows the offense well enough to plug the hole. Essentially using one guy to fill both roster spots. The Breeze wrote:I'm with the consensus. If I had to choose it'd be Webb. Poll option is at the bottom. You can still do it. Just go in and edit.PurpleKoolaid wrote:I thought there used to be a poll option as a thread? Oh well.

Re: Burton VRS Webb
But you aren't developing MBT that way. If Webb is going to play WR he should be all in with that, and not halfway in 2 positions. I know decades ago before my time, they had Bob Lee as a punter and backup QB, but punter is a much easier position than WR.DKSweets wrote:The reason a lot of us have mentioned two QBs is the idea that Joe Webb can focus on being a wide receiver, but if we needed our emergency #3 QB he still knows the offense well enough to plug the hole. Yeah, I get the part about the 2 QB thing and Webb. It was originally tossed out there as a way to keep both Burton and Webb.DKSweets wrote:The reason a lot of us have mentioned two QBs is the idea that Joe Webb can focus on being a wide receiver, but if we needed our emergency #3 QB he still knows the offense well enough to plug the hole. I meant that if they only keep 2QBs it doesn't mean they will keep Burton as a 6th WR. They could...but having an extra guy on the defense would probably be wiser......

Re: Burton VRS Webb
Webb: 6'4" - 220 lbs. with a 42.5 vertical, decent speed and great agility and strength, and he's shown good hands in pre-season... plus he can be an emergency QB and a good option on a WR reverse with a pass option type of gadget play. Not even a close decision on this one.
