Ridiculous. One look at Carter's highlight reel on Youtube shows what kind of circus catches he used to make on a regular basis.

Not only is he not overrated but Carter is one of the best WRs to ever play the game.

That's right CC! You would think it was a joke. CC? Come on man!

It IS a joke. CC isn't overrated. He was a great player, that's why he's going into the Hall of Fame,

PS.) I laughed at the "Come on, man!" Well played...

I saw this as well and couldn't believe that clown picked CC as most overrated and would go on to say every wide receiver had his type of hands. How that man obtained a job discussing football is beyond me.

No randy, you think he puts up the numbers he did?

I think most people agree that without Randy Daunte wouldn't be able to do that. I mean I love me some Daunte but I wouldn't say he is overrated because everyone knows that he couldn't do it with Randy.

They needed each other. It's that simple. They helped each other to excel.

Quite honestly, I think Culpepper actually proved he could put up big numbers even without Moss. That's what happened in 2004. Moss was injured for much of the season and Pep carried the entire team on his shoulders and played his best ball. Because his career abruptly ended due to injury, we don't know if Pep could have continued to be a stud QB but he sure was during 2004.

Now that you bring Daunte up, I confess that I miss him. Culpepper played with heart in every game and he definitely had amazing physical skills, what with his accuracy, arm strength, and surprising mobility. I'm not saying he was perfect by any means but I'd love to see a young and healthy Culpepper as our current QB.

It wasn't the result of a poll. It was an opinion expressed by Adam Rank in the video at this link (and also available at vikings.com):

The lists on NFL.com (at the link above) are interesting:

Overrated:
Chris Hovan
Bernard Berrian
Joe Kapp
Herschel Walker
Randall Cunningham

Underrated:
Joey Browner
Bobby Bryant
Jim Kleinsasser
Gary Larsen
Doug Sutherland
Henry Thomas

They explain their reasoning on the site. There are polls there too. ;) The underrated list was contributed by Mike Wobschall (of vikings.com). The overrated list is from Alex Gelhar, a young writer for NFL.com.

I doubt there are many, if any, Vikes fans overrating Walker or Berrian so I'm not sure why they even made the list. I wouldn't have put Kapp on it. I understand the thinking with Cunningham but i wouldn't have put him on it either. YMMV.

Carter must just be in the video now. He's not on the overrated list on that page.

Can I vote for Adam Rank as the most overrated sportscaster (and/or comedian) of all time? (I don't think of him that highly, but the fact that his paycheck somehow earns him the title of "sportscaster" makes him 'overrated' nonetheless.)

What a buffoon!

I think it was Mike Lynn doing the overrating on that one.

I maybe be mistaken but I think he was only mentioned as overrated in the video. The video was released yesterday and I suspect that's what prompted Jeff to start this thread. The NFL.com lists were released today and were put together by different people.

Randall Cunningham is underrated imo. His 1998 season was spectacular.

This list reads more like a list of players that either a) had high expectations coming to the Vikings and failed miserably (Berrian, Walker) or b) had brief periods of success (Kapp, Cunningham). Hovan is a little in the middle. Everyone thought he was great or would soon become great, but he fizzled.

I would lean more toward players who the "world" thought were great, but in fact weren't all that much to write home about. Off the top of my head, I'd put Chad Greenway on that list. Very overrated, but he stands out in a linebacking corps that's been made up of below average players for years (with the exception of one or two seasons from E.J. Henderson).
Underrated:
Joey Browner
Bobby Bryant
Jim Kleinsasser
Gary Larsen
Doug Sutherland
Henry Thomas
This list is more like what I'd expect to see. I don't know about Larsen - you could easily argue that he benefited more from playing on a DL with three all-world players than he contributed to that line's greatness. A lot of people would argue that Joey Browner was not underrated, having made six Pro Bowls, but I've mentioned this several times before - you'd be hard pressed to find any non-Viking football fan old enough to remember that era of the 80s who would name Browner as one of the best safeties of his day. Kleinsasser? I've argued many times before - if you want a small guard to line up at TE and block, it's not hard to find a hundred guys who could do that at least as well as Jimmy K. And, yes, they could catch a football every other game as part of the job.
