Yeah, refs who actually know the rules.9man wrote: Still bad calls just smarter refs
Re: Old Officials
I'm OK with a call being blown because an official just couldn't/didn't see it -- that's gonna happen. Unless you have like 50 officials out there, stuff is going to be missed. That's just human imperfection. But you can trust these regular guys that they're going to know the rules inside and out, and generally will follow the proper procedures as well. You get the occassional gaffe, such as an official making a call on something that he probably should have let another official decide, and that bugs me. But hey. *shrugs*
Re: Old Officials
But the real refs ARE that good. They are professionals who ultimately get almost every single call correct, especially with instant replay.80 PurplePride 84 wrote:The real refs are going to get a standing o. But it's not like they were that good to begin with just the replacements were soooo bad you appreciate these guys a little more.
There will still be terrible judgement calls but at least they know the rules.
Just like offensive lineman, their mistakes are what really stand out. No one applauds them for the 98% of calls they get correct.

Re: Old Officials
I think there are going to be a few weeks of slop yet. Typically the normal refs get the rust off during the pre-season just like the players do. Now they are coming in week 4 with no real pre-season. I'm sure it will be better overall, but I think there are still going to be some hiccups.
