Blair Walsh

Post by Infinity »

Blair Walsh is an absolute awesome kicker. In three games, his stats are 7 FGM 7 FGA and three of those kicks were from 50+ yards. And what blows me away is that he's a rookie! I hope he stays with us for a long time, because when our offense can't get a TD (Which happens quite a bit) we can always rely on him to get us the 3 points.

He was nominated for Pepsi Max Rookie of the Week this week. I believe this is his second nomination this year.

Anyway, he's done a great job so far. I still hope to see him attempt a 64+ yard FG this year.

He made a 70 yarder in the pregame last week. It would be awesome if he made that in a game.

Posted this statistic in another thread...

Blair Walsh is the first Vikings kicker to kick a FG of 50+ yards in three consecutive games.

What I find incredible about that is that he did it in his first three games in the NFL. And one of them was in a high pressure situation. I firmly believe the Vikings have a chance to lay claim to the two best kicking specialists in the NFL. Amazing!

Here's to another 50+ yard FG vs. Detroit! :smilevike:

I don't believe in jinxes. (Unless he misses a 50 yarder this week, then I will TOTALLY believe in them...)

That's awesome. They go 15-1 with their only loss being to the 1-15 Colts... Now THAT would be something that could only happen to the Vikings...

So happy with this pick, been wasting time with kickers as long as quarterbacks. Nice to get some young talent in here with some POOOWer.

How good is he? This good.
23 field goals made, in 24 attempts. The rookie kicker, who was drafted in the sixth round in April, is on pace to make 37 field goals, which would break Gary Anderson’s single-season team record of 35 set in 1998. Walsh’s 95.8 percent accuracy, if it continues, would also mark just the second time a Vikings kicker made at least 95 percent of his field goal attempts for a season. (Yes, you may recall that Anderson made all of his regular-season kicks in ’98.) Walsh has already set the team record for touchbacks in a season. He notched his 41st touchback of the year in the fourth quarter Sunday, breaking Mitch Berger’s mark of 40 set in 1998.

That's pretty awesome.

To be fair about the touchbacks though, wasn't Berger kicking from farther away?
