Polka

i have been in california for quite awhile now. everytime i hear mexican music it reminds me of polka that my mom and dad enjoyed in northern minnesota except its in spanish. funny how its so similar. does anyone know the origin of polka? did it come from the scandinavian countries like finland or from germany?
