Spielman is probably a little reluctant to try to stash another QB on the practice squad, considering how the Thigpen thing went.
Agreed. But in the end, losing Thigpen didn't turn into much of a disaster, eh?

Who have we lost to the PS, who turned out to be a good player, other than Gilbert Brown (iirc)? Who has anyone lost, in the sense of a guy they wanted to keep on the PS, but he got snapped up. Guys like Kurt Warner, who were cut early on, and weren't going on the PS don't count. Just wondering if anyone has an example, because I don't.

I'm not sure what the alternative to what we have was. Peyton Manning? I agree that years and years ago, they should have nabbed Drew Brees. But now, I'm not sure what else could have been done. Given that you have a (non-zero) idea, what should we have done in the last two years?

I toyed with the thought of giving up everything for Luck, but I'm not sure that could have been done with less than three ones and three twos. But of course, I don't have the authority. But Luck seems to be the guy most likely to be the guy who can't miss. But then those guys do occasionally miss, and then you are looking at 3-13 for a decade.

Giving up the farm to get Luck would have been nice. But before that not forcing a quarterback in the first round would have been a great start. Or using Webb at WR were he belonged in the first place instead of handing him a QB job. And despite how poorly he plays again and again keeping him there. Maybe trying to find some other options at QB in case Ponder doesn't succeed? Other than MBT and Webb. Sign a veteran to get us by until we're in a position where we don't have to panic and force a quarterback in the first round after a run on them. I guess the only redeeming part of the situation is in a couple years we should be at a position in the draft where the new GM can get a true blue chip talent at the position.

Drayton Florence has been released. A CB I have heard of, who has more interceptions than the combined total of all the Vikes DB's... or something close anyway. He's 31, so does he have any gas in the tank? ...asks the 53 year old guy.

Interesting... Thanks. I had always thought he had started with the Dolphins. I did know who he was coming out of Texas Tech.

I don't mind Sage getting cut, he was the second oldest Viking on the roster and clearly had no long-term future here. $500,000 to play in 4 preseason games and a bunch of practices. Must be nice...

I know you dislike mobile QBs, but denying the fact that Webb has had success moving the offense down field in his limited regular season playing time he has is kind of crazy. IMO, that's all that should be expected of a backup QB. I agree that a QB as raw as Webb has no right starting in this league without the ability to consistently attack defenses through the air from the pocket, however that's a lot to ask out of a backup, and if you have a backup who can do that, he should be a starter.

As far as I'm concerned, Webb is a solid backup option. He brings a dynamic to the offense that defenses are unprepared for when he enters in relief. He makes big, game altering plays, can keep the offense moving and he can provide a spark for a struggling offense if need be.

Sage Rosenfels has been cut by the Vikings. I guess this means Webb will be the backup and McLeod Bethel-Thompson will be the third string QB.

Wow. I got everything I wanted. MBT over Sage, Asiata over Todman, Reisner over Shuler, Cole over... whoever. Of course, I wanted the players that looked to me like they did the best in the preseason, so, in this singular instance, it appears the coaches/Spielman agree.

Look at the experience we have at QB. Webb has two seasons, and Ponder one, under their belts. I have hopes that it will be a better than expected year for the Vikes (something like 8-8). But that stat has to give you pause.
