The only way this trade would ever make sense for the Vikings if it was for an already proven QB. And as some shared here, that's extremely unlikely, and plus you have his contract to consider--which is another no go.

You guys would actually be willing to trade AP for draft picks right now? Are you out of your minds? Any team willing to trade for AP would already have a good to great QB in place and would probably be a pretty darn good team, so their 1st round pick would be middle to late--and who cares what else they would give us. Y'all are trying to get a QB, right?

Yeah, because we all know the huge success rate of drafting a true franchise QB. I'll let you ponder that for a bit. It's so easy, right? Yeah, let's trade AP for draft picks, so we can bomb those picks and listen to Vikings fans b**** about how we still don't have a QB, and now we don't even have AP to bail us out. Wow. Brilliant idea. :appl:

If drafting a franchise QB was so easy, we'd have one by now. And so would everyone else. It wouldn't be a big deal. Trying to draft one early is such a huge gamble. Trying to trade away your best player--and the league MVP--to have one more shot at it is ridiculous. There is a 90% chance it wouldn't work out, and a 99% chance he wouldn't develop as quickly as Vikings fans would want him to. I'm not much into gambling, but I can't imagine anyone would like those odds.

Time to stop being foolish. Also, time to stop feeling sorry for AP, and suggesting he's bigger than the team. If he felt that way, he wouldn't be half the player he is. I can guarantee that.

AP IS bigger than the team. He is the team!!! How can you not feel sorry for the man. He played his freaking heart out last year, Only for his QB to half-a** his performance during the season. He DESERVES a championship. I want him to win one with the Vikings but it seems like every year the we find a way to shoot ourselves in a foot during big games.

For those who think this is a ridiculous suggestion, how many more productive years will Peterson waste waiting for Ponder to get better or for us to get a better QB? Unless people are just content with avoiding blackouts or selling jerseys, then I see no reason for the team to continue to waste the talent he has left on this forever struggling team. Lets trade him now.
So, your answer to building a successful team is to continually trade away all of your best players for draft picks until you finally get it right with the QB situation? Chances are, you might eventually get your QB, but it won't matter because you won't have the talent around him to make it count...because you traded away all of your best players from the previous 8 years to finally land him.

But in all seriousness, no. There's no guarantee the picks accumulated from such a trade will outweigh or even come close to the value that Peterson brings. The 3-4 picks you get for him (or whatever) could be colossal busts. That would set us back years.

My philosophy: don't trade away prime talent for potential. You can wish that those picks turn out to be winners but...

Feel sorry for him? No. I wish the team was better, but so what? That still doesn't guarantee anything. Do you know how many great athletes missed out on a championship? That's life. Whenever I do think "Oh man, that sucks!" I remember that they get to do what they love for millions of dollars, and then I'm happy for them--not sad. :D

I get your point, but I think you're wrong. AP isn't bigger than the team. Ask him how he feels about that statement. As far as deserving a championship, I get that too, but individuals don't win championships. Heck, even the best QBs in the league don't always win them. Isn't that what all the fuss is about? Ask Manning and Brady how they've been doing in that department lately. Sometimes y'all are too simplistic with your thinking, as if a great QB fixes everything. Not. And to trade away the league's MVP for a big fat "what if" draft pick?!?! I don't think so. Come up with something better. Please.

I bet you will want to trade your AP Wheaties for Captain Crunch and some draft picks

Jeffbleedspurple wrote: First off who said we would bomb our draft picks? We seem to be doing a fairly good job with the picks minus 1 1st round bomb made 3 years ago.
Chances are we would bomb our QB pick. Do the math. For every potential "franchise QB" drafted, can't you name 10 that didn't work out as planned?

And, that 1st round pick that we made a "mistake" on was what position again?
2nd who said if you score with some picks that we have to draft a QB?
Oh, so you aren't trading AP to try to get a franchise QB? Makes the argument even more foolish. Didn't think that was possible.
It's not like each and every pick made in the NFL ain't a gamble so what are you talking about?
As big of a gamble as trading away the league's MVP for "what if, maybe, I certainly hope so" draft picks?! That big of one?

The point is: We know what we have in Adrian Peterson--and for now, it's irreplaceable. You don't trade that away not knowing what you may or may not get in return. If it was a player/player type deal...maybe. Draft picks? Doubt it.

Whenever I get down about the Vikings, I just remember that it could always be worse. Fans could make personnel decisions.

Running backs are replaceable. We don't need the best RB in the league to win championships, every other team who has won the super bowl since Peterson came to the NFL has proved that. We need to take that that 1st round pick, draft AJ McCarron, get us another decent RB, and BOOM! Then we have a legit shot at a championship run. :smilevike:

Its time to get off the Peterson bandwagon. He is awesome but this building the team around Peterson junk hasn't been working. Time for a new approach.

I agree with this part....but you have to trade his contract as well. Plus...he puts a lot of butts in the seats and sells mucho jerseys and junk. For better or for worse the Vikes are pot committed to AD.

Which? Building the team around Peterson (and hoping to win a championship) or trading him in the hopes of building a modern team that can win a Super Bowl in the 21st century?

Nothing wrong with building a team around Peterson. Running an entire offense through him however...
