I don't know why, but I kinda hope that they win about 7-9 games* and miss out on the top couple of QBs (though they have a ton of ammo to move up wherever they want).

They have had that opportunity numerous times over the past few years and have blown it each and every time. It's a terrible approach if you don't have the coaching and personnel in place to make that draft pick a winner.

@AdamSchefter: When Browns signed RB Trent Richardson, they gave him a $13,341,672 signing bonus. Money's gone, gone, gone.

You're kidding, right? Do you not see the irony of your comment?

It was Cleveland who sent three additional picks to the Vikings last year to move up one spot, from 4 to 3, to take Richardson. The Vikings took Matt Kalil, whom they would have taken anyway, and parlayed the three extra picks into Jarius Wright, Robert Blanton and (because they had an extra pick to trade) none other than Harrison Smith.

How you can say the Vikings make bad personnel moves is beyond comprehension. Cleveland? Yes. Spielman and the Vikings? Hardly.

And remember...Spielman could have jumped on a contract extension for Leslie Frazier after last year's 10-6 season, much like the TOA did with Childress. He didn't, and thus far it's not a given that Frazier will get one. Shrewd move if you ask me.

When you take into account the moves that Spielman has made post-TOA, when he was the only man making the decisions, the only move that remotely looks bad is the decision to draft Christian Ponder. And that isn't a total failure -- yet.

You're basing your assessment of the Vikings 53 year history of personnel moves based on the past two years? And we certainly haven't seen either the payoff or the fallout from this past offseason and draft yet.

Well, since the original context was in present tense, yes. I took that to mean Spielman's tenure.

And do you doubt any of the facts I laid out to support my argument?

As for this year, it's barely relevant to the point. Rick Spielman has shown a talent for creating a market for the assets he has. Cleveland, on the other hand, traded three draft picks for nothing.

Even better. You're basing your pronouncement of the Vikings making good personnel moves on _one_ draft?? Good Lord.

Talk about a gift on a silver platter.. A home game with a backup Q.B. and no running back. They better not lose this one.

As was pointed out when he got the promotion...he doesn't have final say when it comes to that. That's on the owners.

I agree with Eli. Post TOA who knows. How can you possibly judge? His biggest decision, that was all him (Ponder) is a miserable failure. The team is struggling mightily in part because of a massive lack of talent as some positions. We're in a "3 year rebuild", and people are giving Spielman straight A's after taking over for two years. He didn't even have control before that.

Maddening how we have to give a draft 3 years...unless it looks good before that, then we don't.

The Vikings are going nowhere and no point of dragging Peterson along for the worthless ride.

That's what I was thinking. Trade Peterson while he's still in his prime and get us some draft good picks. And besides Peterson deserves to be on a team who is legit super bowl contender, I don't like his chances winning one with this team. Im not saying he won't win one with us but how our team has played so far, we look like a 7-9 team at best.

There's no way we trade AD anytime soon, unless it's for an upper tier QB. He's the only guy putting butts in seats right now. If they trade AD there are going to be a lot of blacked out games until the new stadium is built.

Come on, we aren't getting anything for Peterson. HBs are a dime a dozen. They just got a 1st for a top 3 pick not that long ago. We won't get anything worth considering..especially with what the team could do with Peterson and a competent offensive mind. And this "deserve" nonsense. This isn't high school. He signed his contract. He doesn't deserve crap. Just like Sanders didn't. We move Peterson and we're back to Johnson/Taylor.

Like I said, I think Hbs are a dime a dozen...unless you have an elite one. Which we do. If we can get multiple picks fine. Is any team dumb enough? How much will we benefit from it versus lose consdiering whta else we have? Can you imagine this team without Peterson last season? And unlike a lot of backs, I think once he loses a gear or two, he can adapt and still more than contribute. We need help, but moving our best player isn't going to net enough to be worth it.
