I love these types of comments. Draft isn't even over and we're already deeming it a failure. Forget waiting 3 years, or even til they put the pads on. Might as well cut the entire draft class in camp

Not that I love the McKinnon pick, but I've had no issues with the other 3 picks, and think the Bridgewater pick might have been the best pick so far in the entire NFL draft.
My pieces to the puzzle and yours and theirs are different. Am I wrong for voicing my opinion? I thought that this was a platform to do so.

Like the RB pick. Sorta like the player. I would of liked Dri Archer more. He is a great catcher and even played slot at Kent State.

I LOVED the Scott Critchon pick. The Jerick McKinnon pick? Not so much. I would have rather seen the team take David Yankey or Keith McGill/Breeland/Dion Bailey. Oh well, it is obvious Minnesota sees something they really like in McKinnnon. The dude is physical freak - that is for sure.

Crichton I can sort've understand, it's clear there was value there and it allows for a good rotation and maybe an eventual replacement for Robison who is as old as Jared Allen. Still, I think a guy like Terrence Brooks makes a more immediate impact. Borland too although I'm reading now that he needs shoulder surgery so that may be why he lasted as long as he did.

As for this McKinnon guy, I'm not going to pretend I know anything about him. Apparently he's a workout warrior, which is what Zimmer likes. Unfortunately there was a major run at guard before the Vikings pick. I don't know what's up with Yankey, I thought he would go in the 2nd, 3rd at the latest.

As for secondary, now it's pretty much we need to hope Derek Cox comes back to how he played two years ago and the lightbulb finally turns on for Kurt Coleman. Sendejo showed a lot of improvement too but I think it's clear we'll be going into the season with holes. That pass rush better be REALLY good.

I don't think you're "wrong" for stating your opinion. It's just my opinion that the extremity of your opinion is a little silly. There are players I like going into a draft and players I don't, and I'll state my opinion of each draft. But when it's all said and done, I'll be cheering for each pick, whether I thought they were good picks or not. None of us truly know what's going to happen, so to condemn a draft class before the players hit the field just seems to be an overreaction to me.

Wish he was a better pass catcher and blocker, but be nice to have some speed and athleticism to go with AD. Hopefully they can coach him up!

Well, you were wrong. This board is only for talking about what geniuses Zimmer and Ricky are. Anything to suggest otherwise and you will get attacked until you are beaten into submission. :v):

I am 50/50 so far.
I love the Teddy pick and think Crichton seems like good value in the 3rd. Hopefully can be a rotational guy and eventually take over for Robison
I think Barr was a reach and McKinnon is just a total head scratcher, particularly when (at least according to "experts") there was value at positions of need.

There is already a very potentionally good running back on the roster in Joe Banyard.
News flash, these scouts and coaches have been around the country interviewing, watch film and studying all of these draft picks. They just might no a little bit more about these players than "we" do.

Stop the pity train. The problem is these type of posts do nothing but add fuel to the fire that has been the demeaner to the board lately. Just ####, ####, ####, but no "substance" to the post. Maybe it would be a better place if the people who did nothing but complain all the time actually shared WHY they feel that this draft is a failure, especially when it is massively against the grain of the rest of the members of the board.

This is the platform but when you make such a hyperbolic statement, can you really be surprised to get that sort of reaction?

But why even have a message board then???? What's the point? They are the elites, we are ignorant peasants, we can't even question them. What's the point of this thread? Just to write "they know more than me, must be a great pick". Basically you can say the exact same thing about every single pick from every single team. we're not Vikings fans if we can't be pessimistic about something :D

Not trying to pick a fight, just honestly trying to understand where you're coming from...

Anyway, GO VIKES! At least we can agree on the Teddy and Crichton picks :smilevike: :smilevike:

Purplemania wrote:I don't care if the guy's been running from the the read option or from the QB, the McKinnon is a physical freak. It doesn't take brains to be a RB. Just be fast, strong, and don't fumble. McKinnon runs 4.41 40 and benched freaking 32 reps (FYI, compared to Peterson doing 37 reps, and Gerhart 22 reps) at the combine. Pretty crazy athlete that we just added.
Some good points, but I disagree that you can just put a physical freak back there and everything will be great. There is instinct, vision, blocking assignments, a knack for finding the hole, etc.

If anyone was wondering, 145 & 148 (the two 5th round picks) are worth right around the #19 pick in the 4th round according to the "chart." Someone make a thread for tomorrow, I'm not waking up at 6am to watch a round where the Vikings have no picks.

I am saying, that of course we all have our opinions but to think or insinuate that these coaches and scouts are clueless is a head scratcher. One poster mentioned that he could have been blind folded and thrown darts at a draft board and done better than Spieman, seems abit far fetched to me. Or another poster commenting on how he wasted his time watching yet another bad draft from the Vikings seems a bit ludicrous.
So I certainly was not saying that we are "ignorant peasants" but these professionals, for the most part, do a pretty good job at what they do for a living. They do, at times, screw up badly and it is certainly fair to second guess them but as I said they most certainly do know a whole lot more than what we do and are privy to a whole lot of inside knowledge that we are not.
