JJM out - ankle inury

Re: JJM out - ankle inury
I was surprised when I saw that, usually if someone sprains an ankle severely enough to keep them out for a couple of weeks, you'd think you'd see that during the game, but I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned by announcers. This might not be the worst thing in terms of Wenz possibly giving the Vikings a better chance to win, not such a good thing for McCarthy's development, where he needs lots of reps.

That sucks for McCarthy but I blame the offensive line, if the offensive line protected McCarthy then McCarthy would be playing next week

Re: JJM out - ankle inury
I saw his foot getting taped after it looked like someone stepped on it, but I agree there was no evidence McCarthy wasn't moving well on his ankle.
It might not be a bad idea for him to sit for a few games though. The offense is really struggling and getting a different guy under center might help get them untracked.

That didn't take long. Maybe Wentz can get us moving. I assume Bosomer will be No 2. With the pressure rate, sacks and hits sooner or later something will happen. If Rouse starts I wouldn't want the snaps. Better off saving the kid. JJM looks a little injury prone. That didn't show up in the draft reports. I wonder if Rypkein comes back to be the emergency QB.
Re: JJM out - ankle inury
Skule is in concussion protocol and not expected to play I believe. So we are looking at Rouse or Darrisaw return. If longer term would think we have to add someone.CharVike wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:47 pm That didn't take long. Maybe Wentz can get us moving. I assume Bosomer will be No 2. Wonder if Jackson has taken any snaps at LOT during camp or preseason at all (if they thought backup LOG playing was better than third string LOT).

Re: JJM out - ankle inury
I have no idea about Jackson. It seemed they just went him at G. I thought Brandle played some LT for us in games.makila wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:55 pmSkule is in concussion protocol and not expected to play I believe. That's an interesting thought... Brosmer instead of Wentz...CharVike wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:47 pm That didn't take long. Maybe Wentz can get us moving. I assume Bosomer will be No 2. I doubt KOC will give that a go for a game, but Brosmer looked pretty good in his limited time so far. He was certainly more accurate than McCarthy has been. Hard to say if he'd be any better processing the field and making his reads but if the Vikings want to know if they have something there this might not be a bad time of the year to try to find out.
Re: JJM out - ankle inury
They signed Wentz for a reason. They had Brosmer and still wanted to add someone.VikingLord wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:14 pmThat's an interesting thought... Re: JJM out - ankle inury
I posted Brosmer is the backup now. One play away. They won't junk the season now. JJM is 2 to 4 weeks out. If Wentz gets hurt a deal for Cousins might happen. I don't want that but they will try and make the playoffs.makila wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:21 pmThey signed Wentz for a reason. Re: JJM out - ankle inury
Brosmer had a 66.1% adjusted completion percentage in the preseason (which takes out drops, batted balls and throwaways). That would be 3rd to last in the NFL right now and worse than McCarthy.VikingLord wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:14 pmThat's an interesting thought... He was better in preseason and camp than I was expecting based on what he did as a Gopher, but I don't think he is ready for the NFL yet. Hope I am wrong, because Wentz isn't exactly an ironman and there is a good chance he will suck so bad he gets benched at some point.
Re: JJM out - ankle inury
Hopefully he heals up soon.
Seems like Wentz is going to get Darrisaw protecting his blindside and Addison as a #2 in week 4. I foresee a "QB controversy" coming down the road.

McCarthy can't be much better than that, although that is surprising as from what I recall Brosmer seemed to be pretty accurate.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 8:29 am Brosmer had a 66.1% adjusted completion percentage in the preseason (which takes out drops, batted balls and throwaways). Yeah, Wentz is not going to light things up. At best he'll be steady. Maybe that is what the Vikings need. Whoever they go with needs to execute and move the chains.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 8:29 am ... Re: JJM out - ankle inury
This was posted about Darrisaw.
The Athletic's Alec Lewis writes that "there is still no guarantee" that elite left tackle Christian Darrisaw (knee) will return to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3 this Sunday. If Darrisaw is inactive, the Vikings will start either Justin Skule or third-string left tackle Walter Rouse against Bengals star pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. It would not set up well for backup quarterback Carson Wentz in his Vikings debut with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) out two to four weeks with a high-ankle sprain. Skule has the worst pass-rush efficiency among tackles through two weeks, according to Pro Football Focus. Rookie left guard Donovan Jackson and right guard Will Fries have also struggled. It's a big part of the reason why McCarthy has looked pretty bad in seven of eight quarters in his first two NFL games. Wentz might not have much of a chance, either, if the O-line continues to struggle.--
if we win and our chances are much better facing a backup QB and not a great OL then Wentz stock rises. Addison coming back will be a huge lift. I don't know much about Wentz but supposedly he has a great arm which fits the things we do. If we go on a run with Wentz I could see them sticking with him until he falls off. I wonder if we should have played our 1st team offense more in preseason. We have many new pieces. Maybe they just wait for them to get in sync as the year goes on.
