CharVike wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2024 8:10 am Bottom line money is always a factor. If you have a skill get the most you can from that skill. I've seen that my entire working life in IT. People would come and go in a snap of the finger. Of course IT don't pay what a highly skilled NFL QB can get. Get it while you can.
I'm not begrudging anyone their money or relative worth. I'm trying to point out that at the WR position there is almost a cultural glorification around the money. It's almost like a WR's identity has to do with the glitz and glam around money.

Like I said earlier in this thread, that could just be my impression (and probably is).
Not all WRs are Diva's, but a lot of them are. IMO they are far more divaish than any other position.

Thank Christ!! I was getting sick of listening to Florio #### everyday about it. My favorite rumor was he was somehow getting traded to the Bengals to reunite with Burrow & Chase. Like somehow the salary cap doesn't apply to Cincinnati.
I know. Florio was getting worse than his already dramatic self he is.

Remember everyone on the Cincy was gonna play for pennies.

Glad it's done! Having a rookie and cheap QB is the reason we're able to break the bank on players like him and if you're going to pay an WR, pay this one. The rookie really needs to pan out to make this work.

$357k per catch. Maybe society does care a little too much about professional sports

There was a narrative that we should pay him $40 Million AAV fully guaranteed. Jared Allen for one was endorsing that. The reasonable $35 Million AAV $110 guaranteed deal got done.

Hopefully now he doesn't sit out with a hamstring issue for half the season.

You’re projecting Diggs type antics on the hardest working, most humble and appreciative future HOF player we’ve had in many years. I’m not seeing any indication that he’s not the same hard working team player we’ve known and loved before this contract. He’s not injury prone and coaches aren’t going to rush a player of that caliber back into the lineup.

This is all a fairly easy concept to understand but after all the Viking bad luck and disappointment glass half full thinking is our default mode. I think it’s all going to work out.

I think he earned the money. Character wise he's better than most NFL players. He's vital to the development of JJ. At the end of the day I can't blame him for not rushing back with the hamstring after Kirk went out and the season was over anyway. I just hope it doesn't happen again. Especially if we are in contention.

On the bright side the Vikings are all set at #1 WR for the foreseeable future. JJ is established, makes an impact when he's on the field either by making plays or by forcing defenses to focus on him, and is by all accounts a hard worker and a player leader.

But to get what they're paying for, they need their rookie QB to pan out, and sooner rather than later. The Vikings have invested a lot of cap into receiving talent (Hockenson was and/or is the highest paid TE in the league IIRC, and now JJ is the highest paid non-QB in the league). Since those guys can only make a real impact if the guy throwing the ball can get it to them reliably, if McCarthy doesn't pan out these mega deals are going to become an albatross around the Vikings proverbial necks.

I generally like the move. In the economic world of pro football, JJ is probably worth it. But without an established QB this is risky play by the Vikings. Here's hoping the dice cooperate...

Looks like whoever is QB will be throwing the ball. My predictions for receptions (top 5):
JJ 110
TJ 90
Addison 70
Aaron Jones 50
Powell 40

Good for him. From what I read the deal kicks in after this year. I guess Darrisaw is next man in line.

Yes it's an extension to his already optd in fifth year option. This season (2024) will be his last on original rookie deal, then four year extension kicks in starting 2025 season. Jefferson himself said "five more years" in his video released on Twitter account.

I think there were some rumblings recently they had started talking to Darrisaws camp. Don't recall the source though. It was a legit one.

Edit it was Kevin Seifert.

Finally had an chance to sit at my desktop and look at OTC and Spotrac to see if the contract details were posted, and they already are.

It's easier for me just to post images, rather than remake the tables. Slight variance between the two, I tend to lean on OTC normally (first one).

First thing I noticed, I think his cap number for this season went down. I'm not 100% though, I'm just going off memory that it seemed higher before. Second, the guaranteed money is different than I expected. It's $88.7M Still a very nice chunk of cash, don't get me wrong. The rest of it is coming from a injury guarantees (see notes on the 2nd image, spotrac).

Jefferson will get an opportunity to be an unrestricted FA at age 30. The cap hits at the very end make my very early assumption that if both parties want to extend, they'll do it before that last 47m one.

Ages 25-30. Isn't that ideal if dishing out major dough?
