Vikings sign Jesse Davis
Source says that new #Vikings offensive lineman (and leading candidate to start at right guard) Jesse Davis has signed a one-year deal and here are particulars. $1.25 million base salary, $1.5 million signing bonus, $50,000 workout bonus, $200,000 in roster bonuses.
Not real impressed with this signing. Him and Oli grade about the same. Predicting Davis to maybe be starting RG.

Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
After a really good move signing Smith, Kwesi is back to making bad moves. He better nail the draft.
Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
How is a 1 year $3m contract for a guy that could compete to start a bad move ?
A 30 year old proven OL that has started 72 games in the NFL since 2017 and 15 each of the past 4 years.
Initially was an OG that moved to RT. 6'6" and 310. That could be our starting RG !!! and at $3m, that is awesome.
I was really high on Wyatt Davis coming out of college, but he suffered a late injury and seems that he has not regained the form that made him an All American. To this point, I was wrong ! But he is still only 22/23

Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
He certainly is proven. Proven to be really bad at his job. Would you be happy if the Vikings gave Dozier 3 million to come back here, because that is essentially what we just did. Gave 3 million to Miami's Dakota Dozier.IIsweet wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 9:48 am How is a 1 year $3m contract for a guy that could compete to start a bad move ?

Wow, Mr Minus... I am glad that you already have the answers and know. I will just continue to watch with anticipation and hope that these guys put together a solid roster. Again, for $3m, I am glad that we have added someone with a lot of starting experience. I didn't realize that terrible players get lots of starts in the NFLStumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 10:17 amHe certainly is proven. Proven to be really bad at his job. Pat Elflien has lots of starts and is pretty terrible.IIsweet wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 11:22 amWow, Mr Minus... I am glad that you already have the answers and know. I am sorry for not being happy about signing a guard who has a worse career pass blocking efficiency rate than Dakota Dozier on top of being a really bad run blocker. I would prefer to spend that money elsewhere and give Davis or even Udoh a shot to improve, especially considering Jesse Davis gave up 8 times the sacks and more pressures last year than Udoh in his first year converting to guard.
Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
I was thinking that when we resigned Cousins one of the things Kwesi said we needed to do was give him a decent line.
My opinion is they haven’t really done anything to improve the offensive line.
Davis is really just a bandaid, not an improvement.
According to PFF Oli was rated 54.7,16 penalties which led the league. 1 sack.
Davis rating 52:4 4 penalties eight sacks.
Pick your poison...

Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
Miami had the worst oline in the league last year and Davis was their worst lineman. Typical Vikings signing. Dolphins fans are laughing at us.

I saw like two comments of them sort of teasing us but it's not bad. We also have to look at why the Dolphins OL was bad it could be due to a lot of parameters.
Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
Something to note. Jesse Davis was their RT last season. I think that they are looking at him as a RG, where he was in originally in his career. I am not anticipating All Pro type of play, but hopefully something much better than what we got last few years. I understand that he is no Steve Hutchinson, but he should be better than Iron !!!
Found this quote about Favis...
"Having a veteran starter can never hurt, though, and Davis’ best two seasons in 2018 and 2020, according to Pro Football Focus, came when he was playing guard. A move back to that spot could pay dividends for both the team and player".

Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
In 2020, Davis played mostly RG and had the highest overall grade (62.6) of his career. Davis worked with new Vikings offensive line coach Chris Kuper in 2017 and '18 when Kuper was the assistant OL coach in Miami. Standing 6'6" and weighing 318 pounds, Davis has good size and athleticism.
That is why the guy was signed. He might be a guy they brought in to help with the scheme. calls ect..... In particular rookie Davis who struggled with his tech could use help or he may be our next Samia.

Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
In 2020, his best, and only game above 80 came when he was playing LT. He started 7 games at RT/LT, 7 at RG and gave up 17 of his 34 pressures playing that position. He is just as bad at RG as he is every other position on the Oline.IIsweet wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 10:10 pm Something to note. Jesse Davis was their RT last season. Davis made sure to get involved in community efforts led by the Dolphins, including multiple types of active fundraisers to support cancer research.
Those activities included participating in a deep-sea fishing tournament, a golf tournament, the Dolphins Challenge Cancer 5K run walk and cycling 14 miles in the DCC Dolphins Ride.
Davis also participated in a meal-packing event with the Parkland community in 2019 on the one-year anniversary of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Re: Vikings sign Jesse Davis
I'm not going to say this is a bad move because I look at Davis as a Rashod Hill type player. Simply a swing guy with starting experience, which we currently do not have given Hill is now gone. However, I'm guessing Davis will be the swing interior guy and Udoh will move to the swing tackle. Also, KOC just hinted towards drafting interior offensive lineman in his last presser. I wouldnt get bent out of shape that this guy is going to be our day 1 starter. Still a lot of options here.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 6:52 am After a really good move signing Smith, Kwesi is back to making bad moves. He better nail the draft.
