GM Rick vs GM Paton

Post by IIsweet »

The Broncos new GM has put together a heck of a 1st draft as a GM. Kinda makes you wonder if we didn't miss out again.
I always regret letting Tomlin leave !!!
Anyways, Patons picks thus far
9 CB Patrick Surtain 'Bama
35 RB Javonte Williams UNC
98 C Quinn Meinerz Wis Whitewater
105 LB Baron Browning Ohio State
152 S Caden Sterns Texas
164 S Jamar Johnson Indiana
219 WR Seth Williams Auburn
237 CB Kary Vincent Jr LSU
239 DE Jonathan Cooper Ohio State

I like A LOT of what the Vikings have done this year. However, Rick reaches so much....
Completely whiffed the 4th round, IMO.
Anyways,neat to compare

Why is it weird? We compare Qbs and teams?

I thought the comparison is between Paton and Speilman?

They forgot the QB position. Need to fill that eventually or it will be spinning the wheels forever. They traded for Teddy which looks like a Rick move. He was a Rick pick so they maybe they're closer than you think. I have seen Rodgers linked to this team. That would get them in the hunt more than anything. 3 1st rounders is the starting point. I hope Rodgers is out of our division and conference.

This was a very unusual draft for Rick. Finally took a contingency at QB. Didn’t compile picks for next year. Etc. Maybe some of that was Paton influence.

Yes but comparing a first time general manager to a experienced general manager is weird

I thought both teams had a good draft on paper. Surtain is about as sure a thing as it gets. I have to applaud Rick for the 3rd round. I love the Mond and Davis picks.

I posted this already in a different thread, but the local chatterboxes (knuckleheads) on the radio in Denver were apoplectic over Paton passing on Justin Fields. I think it was a good draft however and expect Lock to take a step up this year, so good to expend draft picks on position players. Different draft than Elway too. Elway seemed to reach a little more, and draft qbs who didn't pan out (Paxton Lynch, Osweiller)

The reasoning was our current GM vs what could have been our next GM.

Unless the rumor is true that they basically have a trade in place for Rodgers, I can understand their fans being upset.

No, and frankly it's impossible to gauge such a thing until a few years into the future.

One thing I will say, is that there were rumors saying Paton was the big "trade down for the late rounders" guy. Maybe that proved to be true. I was pretty shocked that Spielman didnt budge from a single pick after round 1.
