45 million is not the rate in 2022, it is the highest cap hit in the NFL.
2022 means nothing in 2021. Many deals will change.

Prescott, who turns only 28 in July, will average $40 million a season over the next four years. Across all NFL positions, that puts him behind only Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who averages $45 million from the 10-year deal he signed last summer. Prescott now makes $1 million more per season than Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, expected to be traded this offseason.

I'm never putting a CAP number down again. I guess it's 40 million. That might have changed today or right now. It's fluid. I thought I read Mahomes restructured. I guess not.
Dak’s cap hit is 22M next year and 31M the following. He doesn’t surpass Cousins cap hit until year 4.

I'm no expert with the CAP. But reaching out 4 years has little meaning right now. The CAP made available for each team varies from year to year. This year it dropped. Next year it could drop again or rise a certain pct. Players contracts vary from year to year also. I only see one way to get a cheap QB and thats via the draft. The later rounds provide the cheaper hit. IMO Cousins is the best we had since Fran. Others feel he's the biggest stiff since Fran. Just opinions nothing more. If they got rid of him today and resigned Sloter to take over it wouldn't bother me. We might get the 1st pick in the draft. It might bother the people paying for in person tickets feeling they were ripped off and they will cancel there season tickets. It's more complicated than I care to waste brain cells on. I'm just looking at the draft and hoping the next Rodgers is picked by us. I've been waiting for that since 1980 or late 70s. The exact year don't matter. It's been a long time.

Zeitler signed with the Ravens. That's the guard I thought they had the best chance of signing.

My point was that you keep mentioning how expensive Dak's contract was but in actuality it's a much more team friendly contract than Cousins. The dollar amount is comparable but the way it was structured was a lot smarter. The devil is in the details, aggregate numbers don't mean a whole lot in football contracts.

I don't think Cousins is a stiff, I just think he's overpaid. If he said, "you know what, you guys have done right by me and basically given me 6 years of fully guaranteed money as a top paid QB. I'm set for life. So now let me help by taking less so you can build a team around me." I would be happy to keep Kirk around. I just don't think he's that guy. And like I said, he doesn't need to be, if he feels another 60 million in his pocket is worth more than a championship then that's his prerogative. But it's the job of the GM and HC to realize when someone is simply too big of a drag on your team and cut bait.

They can start by drafting a QB this year. But they won't. They're already talking about bringing Mannion back, which shouldn't surprise anyone who has been paying attention. If in 7-years they haven't changed, it isn't going to magically happen now.

Exactly. It's the rate if you're Mahomes and it's a high water year of your deal. If you're Kirk it's grand theft franchise.

He's been raping this franchise for 3 years now.

Your right Kirk probably isn't that guy. Your also right that we should draft a guy. I posted we should draft a guy even if it means trading up. But I don't see QB on the radar with them. Maybe a late pick for a guy that has no physical attributes to be a successful pro. Other posters have pointed out they will do everything they can to make the playoffs and save their jobs. That means keeping their QB. Realistically you can't fault that either. Because once in anything can happen. Teams come out of nowhere in the NFL. The Buc team wasn't considered the top club before the season. Most felt they wouldn't even make the playoffs. But Kirk wants the money. Everyone does. Hunter is #### for more. Money must be more important to him also. Kirk agent did a great job. If we didn't give him the contract the Jets would have or the Broncos would have ect.... Teams know what to expect before the talks even begin. They deal with every agent out there.
