We basically lost 35 points on that trade, not good value.we should have been on the plus.
Ya, I don't think it would have been better to take Gladney at 25 and forfeit a 4th and 5th round pick just because we might lose 30 'points' in draft capital. Pretty sure the 4th and 5th are better than 0.
Concur. Supposedly once you get away from the first few players in the first round the talent flattens out a bit, so if there isn't anyone available you are really high on then it makes sense to try to add a few picks. Here is what the Packers gave up for the Dolphins pick, pretty close to the positions the Vikings and 49ers were.
"The Packers acquired the 26th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft from the Dolphins in exchange for the Nos. 30 and 136 selections and with No. 26 took Utah State quarterback Jordan Love."
Meanwhile - "ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that San Francisco traded the 31st, 117th and 176th overall selections to Minnesota in order to move up the board."

I also wouldnt rule out Jake Fromm or Jalen Hurts. We have met with both of them a few times.
A couple of us were talking about this on a different thread earlier today. I would love to get Hurts but thought he'd go before our first pick in the 3rd. But now, with all this draft ammo I could easily see us being able to get to him if we so desire. There's so much potential left in this draft and we can go in so many directions. But I, personally, think it's absolutely paramount to get Trent Williams at this point. All the teams that were rumored to be interested grabbed OT's in the 1st round. There's no excuses now. You've got the draft capital Rick..GET IT DONE!!!
Sounds like the Vikings are very willing to move up in the second round tomorrow. "Hopefully looking forward to manipulating up the board," GM Rick Spielman said.
The saddest thing in life is wasted talent and the choices you make will shape your life forever.

Yup, I knew they do not want to wait until #58 so they are trading up
Jefferson and Gladney are the two guys I drafted almost every time I stood pat in the 1st in draft simulators.
Not because I liked them or did any research on them, but because they gave me the best grade. If I didn't know any better I would say firstpick.com was Rick's big board.
The trade back will be fine if Love is a bust for the Packers and Gladney is a better CB than Wilson is an Olineman. I really liked Love, and the Vikings need a QB in 3 years more than the Packers do. If Love works out, it will be one of the worst draft blunders in Vikings history..
Here is to hoping the Pack wasted a 1st round pick.

I don't think Love was a possibility whether the vikings traded back or not. Trading back there certainly won't go down as a draft blunder, let alone one of the worst. This is a franchise that didn't get the pick in on time, a franchise that selected Demetrius Underwood, Troy Williamson and Erasmus James.
I get confused...We are a run first team according to Zimmer.
We're paying a throwing QB good money, yet we don't have a good line.
And we draft a slot WR who had 109 of his 110 catches from the slot. Slot WR's are abundant this year in the draft. I feel we could have got similar value in later rounds.
Plus we have AT and Bisi who work out of the slot.
To me our priorities last night was to upgrade the line, did we accomplish that? Not in my opinion.
The extra picks we got from the 49ers let's see when we cut down to 53 where them picks end up.

If your division rival gets a franchise QB because you pass on him to trade down, in a year you have a bigger need for a QB than that division rival, you have made a massive mistake.
It was a massive mistake to pass on Love either way in my opinion, but him going to the Packers makes it much worse.

To me, that's a weird ESPN kind of criticism. Tua or Herbert might have been too tempting to pass up, but a major project like Love was never going to be considered by the Vikings in the first round.

He was my favorite QB outside of Tua, and I would have taken him at 25 if I were in charge of the draft.
It could be he sucks, but at least one GM really liked him. Probably more than one since the Packers didn't feel he would last until their pick.
I mean really liked him. They have one of the best QBs of our time for at least a few more years and they traded up in the first for Love, knowing Rodgers is probably going to be really pissed about that pick. You don't do that unless you are 100% sold on a QB as a prospect.
This is just my opinion and I could be very wrong about Love as a QB, but based on how much I liked Love, passing on him to have him go to a team they play twice a year is far worse than any first round bust, failing to get your pick in on time or anything else the Vikings have done in the draft.

Everything hinges on what we do with Williams.
If we are trading for Williams we will still need an OG. Ruiz would have been a good pick or even maybe Jones.
If we don't trade for Williams we will be limited in what we do.
If it was me I would have taken a couple of our 12-14 picks and moved up for Kinlaw or Wirfs
Can you imagine Hunter and Kinlaw for years to come.
Like I mentioned Wirfs depended on what we do with Williams.

GB is a good place for him to go in the sense that he'll have a couple years to mature, but I doubt he ever recovers from the psychological torture Aaron Rodgers is going to dole out on him.

Ruiz would have been a tempting pick. I've read different things about how seamlessly he could transition to G. Bradburry is strictly a center, so that might not have fit.
