Don't worry about it. If you really think we should draft a QB it's just as likely whether we did or did not have visits.
What draft prospects have we shown interest in?

Re: What draft prospects have we shown interest in?
I believe Mekhi Becton is the prototypical left tackle and will not get out of the top 10. Andrew Thomas played left tackle in college , but may be better suited for the right side, also top 10. Jedrick Wills is a versatile player who will be plug and play on either side, but I like Tristan Wirfs the best of all because I believe he could not only play either tackle position , but could also have a pro bowl career as a guard. Bottom line is none of these guys will make it to us in round 1, if we want one of these players we will have to move up.

I agree I'd take Wirf any day of the week over those guys.Husker Vike wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 5:53 pm I believe Mekhi Becton is the prototypical left tackle and will not get out of the top 10. I’d be happy if they target one in the 4th or 5th. 4th I think is a nice value spot and the Vikings have 5 picks before the 4th to address the bigger holes.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 5:42 pmDon't worry about it. I really love the idea of Wirfs playing guard. Fromm or Hurts in the 4th or Morgan in the 5th. Don't want any QB rated lower.S197 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 3:22 amI’d be happy if they target one in the 4th or 5th. 4th I think is a nice value spot and the Vikings have 5 picks before the 4th to address the bigger holes.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 5:42 pm

Re: What draft prospects have we shown interest in?
In principle, I'm not opposed to trading up to get the guy they are really targeting, and yes they have the picks to do it this year.
However, they just have SOOOO many holes to fill this year that I hope they keep all 5 for their picks in rounds 1-3. If the right deal is offered I'd rather trade back in the 1st and maybe pick up another 3rd than give up a lot to move up.
think of all of their needs:
OG (maybe 2)
CB (maybe 2)
DE
WR (maybe 2)
DL
OT
S depth
They have so many holes to fill so giving up several picks to fill one need makes me a little nervous.

Man I'm watching the live mock draft right now on CBS sports. They are now on pick 15 and Wirfs is still on the board. I'd be all over the phone trying to trade up right now.

Is it going on right now? I can't find it? I watched one 6 days ago.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 12:25 pm Man I'm watching the live mock draft right now on CBS sports. They are now on pick 15 and Wirfs is still on the board. I'd be all over the phone trying to trade up right now.
Edit: Found it. I was looking on YouTube switched to CBSsports directly.

Damn it I missed so much.
I tuned in at pick 18. Wirfs is gone, but I'm in time for both Vikings picks unless they traded already.

Vikings trade 22 for OBJ in the mock. Don't Freak out people not in real life. I don't like it because he is going to cost us 15 million a year.

Then we traded #25 for Patrick Peterson and cut Reiff to afford him. I presume we cut Harris to afford OBJ. Because of the cost factor I would be against both of these moves.
Re: What draft prospects have we shown interest in?
Patrick Peterson might be a good trade but no OBJ...but will still need to sign Williams or Peters then everything will be fine

Re: What draft prospects have we shown interest in?
Agreed however I think we can still pull off both the trade up and trade down. This is what I would really like them to do.VikingPaul73 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 9:48 am In principle, I'm not opposed to trading up to get the guy they are really targeting, and yes they have the picks to do it this year.

If I’m Spielman, given someone is on the board at 14 I’m really high on, trade up from 22 and draft that player. Then come pick 25, is where we trade down. Trading down from 25 doesn’t fully make up for what we give away on the first trade up but it will definitely bring enough draft capital back in return in the sense that we didn’t lose much overall.
Just to put into perspective how much a trade up from 22 is going to cost roughly:
Last year the Steelers traded up from pick 20 to pick 10 to take Devin Bush. It cost the Steelers:
-2019 1st (20th)
-2019 2nd (52nd)
-2020 3rd
To move up 10 spots. That’s really not all that bad to be honest. And that’s if we were going from 22 up to 12. Pick 12 could very well land us Jerry Jeudy, Lamb or Wirfs. This is why I’m really hoping for a trade up.
Check out this breakdown:
Then to put into perspective how much a trade down from 25 would get us:
Last year the seahawks traded down from pick 21 to pick 30. The Seahawks received:
-2019 1st (30th)
-2019 4th (114th)
-2019 4th (118th)
That was to move down 9 spots. So let’s say we went down from 25 to 32 and dropped 7 picks.
STAY PUT vs. TRADE UP THEN DOWN
-1st (22nd) ————————1st (12th)
-1st (25th) ————————-1st (32nd)
-2nd ———————————3rd
-3rd ———————————4th
-4th ———————————-4th
-5th ———————————-4th
-6th ———————————-5th
-6th ———————————-6th
-7th ———————————-6th
-7th ———————————-7th
-7th ———————————-7th
XXX ———————————7th
**12 picks total ————- **13 picks total
Granted we lose a 3rd in 2021 which I don’t mind simply because we should be landing a decent chunk of compensatory picks and landed a 2021 4th in the diggs trade. But in this situation we actually gain an extra pick because of the trade down.
2021 draft as of now would look like this if we traded up then down:
-1st
-2nd
-3rd (projected compensation for Waynes)
-4th (diggs trade)
-4th
-5th
-6th
-6th (projected compensation for Alexander)
-7th
-7th (projected compensation for Sendejo)
That is 10 picks even after giving up our 2021 3rd in the 2020 draft to trade up. So in turn, it really doesn’t even effect our 2021 draft all that much and we still have above the average number of draft picks as well.
This is why I think trading up and then trading down is a no brainer if someone is sitting there at 12ish that we really like. I would say the “biggest” pick we lose out on is maybe our 2nd round pick this year but if land a guy like Lamb, Jeudy or Wirfs, it’s 110% worth it.

Agreed, Fromm/Morgan are worth rolling the dice in those respective rounds. Hurts as well although I have a suspicion he’ll go higher than projected.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 9:16 amFromm or Hurts in the 4th or Morgan in the 5th. Don't want any QB rated lower.
