What draft prospects have we shown interest in?

Post by Pondering Her Percy »

So I’ve posted this the last few years. Walter Football posts a list of prospect team visits on their site every year. A few weeks ago I noticed it was up and running. Very interesting to see who we’ve been meeting with. Post draft I usually refer back to this and usually you see some of our draft picks on this list. Now I can guarantee we’ve met with more than what is shown here. These are the ones that have been reported though. I’ll keep the list updated when new players are added.

The guy I was impressed with from your list was DE James Lynch....he has a high motor and never quits till the whistle blows....just imagine putting him in with his size at 6’3 295 lbs at DE and you can probably play him at DT

Lynch stood out in the Baylor games I watched. Dude's got a motor that won't quit.

That's a lot fewer WRs than I would have anticipated. I like that they've met with lots of OL, however.

Historically who the Vikings meet with has almost no correlation with who we draft.

That’s not necessarily true. In previous years I’ve seen some players on this list drafted by the Vikings. Not all of them by any means but it definitely gives you an idea of what they are looking for and who they could possibly take.

I think we average about one player drafted per 32 players visited. That would be the expectation if there were no visits at all. If we are averaging 1 per 20 than that would be a strong correlation. Any one years correlation is too small a sample size to give much weight to. There are also all kinds of visits. I would think it's best to limit the discussion to the official top 30 visits and the combine visits. The other visits are kind of impromptu like at the Senior Bowl and the Shrine game.

Yeah those visits mean very little. The visits to pay attention to on this list are the virtual meetings, multiple meetings icon, combine and pro day. I never pay attention to the senior bowl and shrine games

Seems they're open to trading up when you see guys like Wirfs and Henderson on the list.

Yeah that’s what popped out to me. Luke Braun was saying on his podcast that he heard we’re all over Wirfs and have met with him quite often. I think there is a very realistic possibility that if Wirfs, Jeudy, Lamb or even Henderson fall into that 14 range, I could really see us trading up given how much draft capital we have.

I've predicted a move up for Wirfs for quite awhile, but I'm afraid it will take getting in the 5-10 range, which is likely too expensive for my blood. It's obvious that they love him though.

Yeah I hear ya. I have a hard time seeing him fall out of the top 10.

Everybody loves Tristan Wirfs. He may well end up the first non-QB drafted other than Chase Young.

Lots of speculation on the draft order of the top four OTs. If somehow Wirfs falls past 10 he is very interesting to trade up for. I actually want him for guard more than Tackle. he can be a very good tackle or he can be the second coming of Randall McDaniel at guard.

Not a single QB. Can’t say I’m surprised but still disappointing.
