I was on that "Ride" in the 70's, when we went to the four Super Bowls. At the time, yes, it was a 'fun ride'. But looking back, from a fan since 1961, it was 'head-on accidents, with numerous fatalities. Until we win the Super Bowl, this Fan will consider any future season as 'Coming up short'.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 6:01 pmTuscaloosa Nights is only slightly behind Joe Dirt in must be seen movies. We had it so good in the 70s with those incredible Vikings teams of those times. I would love to return to 4 superbowls in like 6 years even if we lose every one. Sure the losing being that close would suck, but it would sure be a fun ride.fiestavike wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 5:38 pm
Nope, not familiar with Tuscaloosa Nights. I understand the point you are making, and I can imagine a season coming up short and not being a disappointment, but not even being built to seriously contend (or obviously being on that path) is tough for me to swallow.

Don't pick a fight with an old Viking. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

If we go to the SuperBowl I will consider that a very fun and very successful season regardless of winning it or losing it.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 1:45 pmI was on that "Ride" in the 70's, when we went to the four Super Bowls. Well to each, his own. I've watched the Vikings lose 4 SB's. It was not at all fun and to me, a very unsuccessful season.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 3:26 pmI agree!VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:04 pm

Not too many people, outside of Viking fans, realize that they did win the NFL Championship in 1969. That of course was before anyone had ever heard of the Super Bowl. Yep, 1969, the LAST successful season my beloved Vikings had.

It could be worse, Vikings could have zero championships, at least Vikings won a championshipFran the Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:55 pmRandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:18 pm

I think you are missing the point. I didn't enjoy losing the SB's, but I sure enjoyed the seasons and all the wins that got us to the Super Bowl. Every team that makes the playoffs ends with a loss except one. I consider getting to that game a successful season. I guess you agree with Ricky Bobby. "If you're not first your last." I agree with his dad. If you're old enough to have experienced the Vikings Super Bowls than you got to be in your later years. Odds are that if only a championship will make you happy you're going to spend your golden years in misery.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:16 pmWell to each, his own. Re: Top needs in free agency and draft
The super bowl already existed by that time, 'Super Bowl' was just an unofficial name for the AFL-NFL Championship Game.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:55 pmRandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:18 pm

Like I said, To each, his own. The goal of every NFL team should be championships. If that is not the goal, they shouldn't be in the league. If they don't win a championship, the didn't succeed in their goal. No, I won't spend my golden years in misery just because the Vikings never won a SB, lol. I'm not that fanatical.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 7:52 pmI think you are missing the point. Re: Top needs in free agency and draft
Sure the goal is to win it all. The Dolphins and Bengals goal this year is to win it all. If they make it to the Super Bowl and lose should their fans consider the season a failure? I can't see it that way. I would consider either of them making the Super Bowl to be tremendously successful season.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 7:19 amLike I said, To each, his own. It was an exhibition game between the two league champions. Nothing more.Vikecycle wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 11:15 pmThe super bowl already existed by that time, 'Super Bowl' was just an unofficial name for the AFL-NFL Championship Game.Fran the Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:55 pm

It was called the "AFL-NFL Championship Game" officially, and unofficially called the Super Bowl. That qualifies as more then an exhibition game.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 9:23 amIt was an exhibition game between the two league champions. Nothing more.
