Nice debate guys. I'm firmly on the fence regarding Zimmer. There are times were I think he could be the guy to take us to the top, but there are other times I'm left scratching my head. I've seen way too many times were the team just looked completely flat when playing an important game (the latest being GB, but also Chi last year and vs Philly in 2017). Those moments really give me pause. I really want to believe, because I know that the FO thinks very highly of him. Maybe we'll start getting some clarity starting Sunday.
We probably will.
— If the Vikings win, Zimmer and Spielman will probably return next year.
— If the Vikes lose decisively, it's possible we'll see serious changes. At the very least, Zimmer and Spielman would probably be firmly on "the hot seat" for the 2020 season.
— If the Vikes lose a close, well-played game... ???
And don't rule out Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, who is in the same boat as McDaniels and Daboll but got an extremely long look from the Browns for this job a year ago. Sources tell me that there were people in the Browns' building strongly in favor of hiring Stefanski, but now-former GM John Dorsey had final say and picked now-former head coach Freddie Kitchens.
Cowboys:
I'm keeping an eye on Sunday's Vikings-Saints game. If the Vikings lose, there are people around the league who wouldn't be surprised to see Jones take a run at coach Mike Zimmer, a former Cowboys defensive coordinator for whom Jones feels a strong affinity. Zimmer has a year left on his Vikings contract, so it's possible that the Cowboys would have to trade a draft pick for him in this scenario, but don't rule it out.
Thanks for the link.
I don't understand the interest in Stefanski as a head coach. There must be great insider buzz about him around the league or something.

Yes, there must be. It started last year... or possibly the year before. He was evidently very close to getting the Browns HC job last off-season. I don't know if it's warranted or not, but there is clearly a buzz about him in the NFL circles.

Yes, that about sums it up. I wonder what would happen if they win on Sunday and then lay an egg the following week though. Hate to even think like that.

I believe we keep Zimmer, but Stefanski leaves for another job. Kubiak is then promoted to OC/Assistant HC. That's my prediction.
I'm guessing Kubiak the younger, with papa overseeing things and remaining in his current role.

For what it's worth, Kubiak is already Assistant HC.

Vikings ownership just issued a statement on GM Rick Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer:
"We value Mike and Rick’s leadership and we have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Rick leading our football operations, next year and beyond.”

At the very least they are making sure Jerry knows he'll need to make a hell of an offer!

I’ve been saying all along that Mike Zimmer is going nowhere. Everybody in the organization loves him, most importantly the owners.

I've never really questioned how they feel about him. Its obvious and I'm not surprised by the vote of confidence but I also don't think it means much. Zimmer and Spielman still have one year left on their deals and unless those contracts are extended, they're both essentially on the bubble.

If anything, they will be gone after next season. I dont get the media being all over Zimmer being fired. It's like they are already chalking this saints game up as a loss.
IF Zimmer was to be fired next year, I'm still in support of keeping Spielman. He just landed another solid draft class this year by the looks of it. He's still bringing in legitimate talent. Him and Bryzinski make a great combo IMO. I think it's pretty stupid to fire a GM that is continuing to load your roster with talent. It's up to the coach to get them to perform at the level they should. Not Spielman. He's simply the supplier.
And sure, guys can say "he cant draft OL" or whatever else but you can look at even the very best GM's in the NFL and they all have their weaknesses. This roster is very talented for a reason. And that reason is Rick Spielman.

Based on the season if we go to the Pack we will get beat. Anything can happen but they proved to be the better team twice. We haven't played the 49ers but they are also a better team IMO. Can we beat them? Sure. But it's highly unlikely. We don't have the talent for those teams.

There is no way we can go to GB if we win. If we win tomorrow we automatically go to SF. The only way we could play GB is in the nfc championship
