i'm not a huge fan of bradford, but i do like this move a change of scenery might do him good. i'm so sick and tired of people talking about losing a first round pick; so freaking what? who knows, maybe we'll trade a player, or trade back into the first round next year our gm is good at wheeling and dealing. for those that thought we were going to win with sean hill might need to head to an asylum.

#Vikings called the #Chiefs about Nick Foles, had eyes on some #Ravens backups. Found a Sam Bradford deal much more to their liking

Bradford will be on IR by the bye, if he's even starting by then.

What an awful, awful move. Now I'm REALLY concerned for Teddy. And the franchise. It's amazing how severely one injury can potentially doom a franchise.
Maybe it will help.

I realize the price is steep but for Pete's sake, it's possible they were "doomed" with Bridgewater. I know everybody loves him and had high hopes for him but it's not like he'd even firmly established himself as an average NFL QB yet. Heck, in arguably the two most important games of the 2015 season for the Vikes (the season finale with the division on the line and the playoff game), he threw for a whopping 245 total yards and 0 TDs and missed wide open receivers. The Vikings had the 31st-ranked passing game in the league! Bridgewater hasn't shown much to imply future greatness.

If he can get up to speed in the system, Bradford is probably an upgrade.

Wow calm down people. 1st round pick is steep...but:
1. If Vikes win a lot of games, including playoffs makes it more worth the cost.
2. He is great insurance if Teddy needs more time to come back from such an injury, maybe even a 2 year window.
3. And what no one is saying, if Bradford plays well on a quality team (something he hasn't had the luxury of having), say Vikes go deep into playoffs and Bradford is instrumental as fill in QB, when Teddy comes back and proves ready (ideally prior to next season), Bradford is under contract and could/SHOULD be flipped as proven-starter ready-just lead Vikes deep into playoffs QB. What will that reward Vikes in compensation? What pick will they get in return? Is there a chance they are buying low (relatively) and selling high on Bradford some time next year?

Right, and obviously a SB victory in its own right would be more then worth the price.
That's the only explanation I can some up with - that they feel they have a real shot at a Super Bowl, and you can't pass that chance up. Those windows don't stay open long, maybe Petersons's age is a factor in that thinking? It is an awfully high price even so.

Bradford also played with AD at Oklahoma. Could be a great reunion for them!

I feared that they would just grab the best option off the scrap heap of free agents. We are a contender now, so let's go for it. And this move is exactly that: they are putting their chips in.

Bradford's been in odd offensive systems. I think he can flourish here with the pieces we have in place.
I hope so. He has the arm to hit those deeper intermediate routes that, prior to coming to the Vikes, were the bread and butter of Turner's offense. That's a plus.

You know this move has me really excited.

I imagined our rivalry games being horribly deflated and uninspired if Hill or Stave was your starter, but now it feels like our matchups just got defibrilated. :)

True. Most Hall of Fame QBs are already All-Pros by that time. QBs never need time to develop.

I will try to be the optimist here.... Reasons why this is a good move, despite the cost.

1) Teddy may not recover by next season, or possible ever. This is insurance against that possibility.
2) The rest of the team is starting to peak now, and our star RB isn't getting any younger. Vikes need to make a move towards a championship.
3) Shaun Hill is not a full-season NFL starter. Never has been, 36 yrs. old. Think about it.
4) Is there a better QB out there? Sanchez? Vick? Kaepernick? McCown?
5) A 1st round pick does not necessarily work out as one might hope: Troy Williamson, Christian Ponder, Cordarrelle Patterson, for example.
6) Sam Bradford has shown flashes of really good play in his career, but has never had a decent team around him. This could work. He threw for 3700 yds last season, with 19 TD's and 14 INT's, 86.4 QB rating. Not too bad with a pretty awful supporting cast.

THIS MIGHT WORK! SKOL! :smilevike:

I'd also argue Teddy was an average QB last season.

I also hate the price we paid but think it is better than anything else we could have done. From my reading It might be more than 1 season that Teddy is out so I wouldnt want to write off 2 seasons let alone 1. We are in a good position to win big now. Like others have said what ever the pick will be will be a low one so it might look expensive but its all relative.
I trust Spielman and believe he did what was best for the team.
I believe..

Jordy quit busting on Teddy at least till he gets healthy again.
I agree with what you are saying about Bradford.

I guess we have to trust in Zimmer and the gang.
I think that they made a move that affords us to move forward this year.
Looking at what starting quarterbacks are making Bradford is reasonable.

Seeing a lot of doom on Teddy returning. The guy hasn't even had surgery yet. Lets wait and see how it goes.
Everybody responses different to injuries...Take AP for example.

Would you rather have Manziel then Bradford too? You act as if Bradford is some great downgrade from Bridgewater but when faced with the fact that he is likely a statistical upgrade you seem to use Teddys youth as an excuse.
