Before the kick I turned to my wife and said "He's going to miss it. He's missed so many extra points this year." Then he did and even though I had just said it, I stared at my tv in disbelief.

Since then, I have worn my Vikings jacket to work every day (well I do that most days anyway, it's one of the few winter jackets I have any more) and all of my coworkers and students (who are all 49ers or Raiders fans) have had the audacity to talk crap about how terrible the Vikings are. All I can respond with is "did your team even make the playoffs?"

At least Sherman didn't block the kick, fueling the Seahawks ego even more. AHHHH it still hurts. Suddenly EVERYONE wants to talk football everywhere I go.

I was watching the kick through my fingers... when he missed it, I just turned to my son and said "Can you believe that? He missed it."... completely calm and resigned to our fate.

Very different from my reaction to the Favre interception in the NFCC game... pillows flying, cursing, screaming, wife taking the kids out of the room so Dad could vent.

Also very different from the 1998 NFCC where I just sulked for three days and didn't want to talk to anyone.

It seems like a lot of us are in this boat. It sucked to see the miss, but it was different. maybe its because of how young this team is, rather than having a nearly has been QB making his last gasp at relevancy. Somehow, its just been easier to take this loss.

I think that's a big part of it. The expectations for this team were nowhere near what they were in 2009. That was "all the eggs" season that we knew was going to burn us the next few years, which is what happened. As far as I'm concerned it felt like the Arizona game. I expected them to lose, probably by multiple scores. I think the weather was a good equalizer but I underestimated Zimmer's influence. Though like many I figured Walsh would miss the kick. This isn't my first rodeo with the Vikings. I know how these things typically end. I also knew this team didn't have the offense or the o-line to take them much further even if they won this one. My expectations for next season will be higher and I'll be disappointed if they don't make some noise in the playoffs. They beat my expectations and then some this season. I'm encouraged by the direction the team is going.

I'm glad there wasn't a camera rolling in my place...
...and, my hero, since I was a child riding a Big Wheel, died that very night. A buddy woke me up early with a text message...

Friend - First the Vikes, now Ziggy.
Me - Owner?
Friend - No, Stardust
Me - What?! I'm getting up and putting on the news...NOO!

First it was the Vikes, then David Bowie died, my hero, only behind my dad. We all have them, and mine was DB.

Because of all the missed short kicks in pre-season, Walsh gave me the heebie-jeebies every time he lined up for a FG in the regular season... So, while I wasn't expecting him to miss that 27 yd. FG, his misses did come to mind as he trotted onto the field. Still, I didn't think he was going to miss it. :wallbang:

If Walsh misses a few next pre-season, we better have another kicker in camp. We can't afford a kicker with anxiety issues on short field goals.

I said it in another thread, but we just need to take delay of game penalties to back him up enough so he can make the FGs

Haha... Good idea.

Good idea but unfortunately that won't work either - the other team will just decline the penalty.

On 4th and long, you might have the opposing team deliberately taking a penalty to shorten the distance of the FG try.

I couldn't watch.

I went into my dining room, plugged my ears, stared into my timber and told myself that life goes on if he misses it (fully expecting him to make it).

I walked back into living room, saw Sherman on the ground and thought "WE WON!"

Well, then i saw the score. Immediately collapsed to the ground face down silent for a few moments. No one made a peep.

Went into bedroom and screamed into a pillow, as loud/angrily as i could, and came back out.

Then I flipped to the FOX pregame and Howie was talking about it and brought up '98. I promptly threw a piece of deer sausage at his head and changed the channel.

Still cant find the sausage.
