That's great news, as is the news about Barr, Joseph and Smith. It would be nice if the Vikings could beat NY, stay healthy and go into that last game of the season as close to full strength as possible.

Here's a thought, though: what do you do with these guys if Atlanta and Green Bay both lose on Sunday prior to the game? If I'm understanding correctly that would mean the New York game would be essentially meaningless (if Seattle wins). Do you play them or rest them?

I would play them sparingly just to get them the reps... that is an interesting thought.

Via Ben Goessling:
A league source said tests on Adrian Peterson's left ankle showed no damage. He will get treatment on his sprained ankle all week, but should be ready to play against the Giants on Sunday. Peterson was in the Vikings' locker room without a limp or a walking boot on Monday.

I don't know. It would probably depend on the state of their health and how much benefit they might get from another week of rest.

My instinct would be to play them if they're healthy and ready to go.

Yeah, it'd depend on how healthy they are. All things being equal, with the way our season has gone with injuries I'd probably be on the more conservative side if there's nothing to gain.

I'd play them. At least one game. I'd make sure any rust is knocked off at least against Green Bay. From a game planning perspective it's also best to know if they can hold up coming off of injuries. Better to know before the playoffs than the first series of the first game ...

Man. I dunno. Just saw that Mathieu has a torn ACL. I'd hate for Barr or Smith to go the same way in a meaningless game. Of course there's that concern on any play during any game. But I'd be pretty upset if it happened; moreso than if it happened during the GB game.

Yeah, there are risks either way. If the game is truly meaningless then maybe treat it like a pre-season game. Bring them in for a quarter or something like that. See how they look, make sure they're 100%, maybe get them back into rhythm should they need it.

I think there's also the question of whether it's meaningless to them (the players).

It's one of those questions that's a pure judgment call. We'll see how Zimmer handles it if it comes up. he strikes me as the type who will probably play his starters.

Coach Mike Zimmer said Adrian Peterson (ankle) "should be good to go" for Sunday night's Week 16 game against the Giants.

‏@mattvensel Mike Zimmer said the outlook is still good for Adrian Peterson to play this weekend.
@christomasson Mike Zimmer remains optimistic Harrison Smith, Anthony Barr, Linval Joseph to play Sunday. He expects them to practice today.

@Andrew_Krammer Anthony Barr, dealing with a nagging groin injury expects to practice today: "I feel great, it's the best I've felt in a while." #Vikings

Man...groins are tricky, especially with a guy as explosive as Barr. Hoping he can make it through the week without a setback.
I actually think it's more important to get Joseph back in the lineup right now. If the line can start mauling QBs it will really make up for Smith and Barr being out~

I don't care about this week, but I want Smith, Barr and Joseph back next week for the Packers and then in the playoffs. This week, in New York, I feel the Vikings can win without them. Let them rest and get better before the more important game. Then again, if they don't play and the team loses there will be that doubt. I'm glad that I'm not the one having to make the final decision.
