I think the 49er defensive front is still going to be excellent - big test for our offensive line, IMO .

Seems Vikes have the upper hand on us considering how good are their front seven (Griffen,Floyd,Barr,Greenway) vs our guys (Staley,Boone & rest). If it were about brute force then we're lost for sure but if Chryst can make a gameplan which Kap throw quick darts to every receiver (RBs,WRs & TEs) in order to stretch the field and open the big bombs and read options with 3 runners (Kap with either Hyde,Bush or Hayne).

Make Bridgewater to hold the ball

One of biggest asset as passer is he threw ball just as quick as Peyton does so we cannot blitz him with too many players because is gonna torch us all night long. Defense has to win the line of scrimmage with 4 or 5 guys max in order to keep the coverage tight to any potencial receiver either Wallace, Johnson, Patterson, Rudolph or Peterson. Bowman,Tartt, Reid and Bethea are gonna be fundamental to keep the middle field while Acker,Reaser and Johnson be wary of the lines.

Position of field

Special teams has to take advantage either on offense and defense. Pinion must keep Vikes O behind 10 yd line and Hayne or Ellington must get us into midfield or even further so Kap has enough space to move freely also keep Brigdewater behind the wall.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Glenn Dorsey: Nose tackle by trade now starting at left defensive end in 3-4 scheme, and his six career sacks represent half of the sacks racked up by the seven D-linemen … combined.

Ian Williams: Surprisingly agile, mobile and hostile despite being somewhat undersized for a nose tackle.

Quinton Dial: Stepping in for Justin Smith at right defensive end, Dial is expected to blossom as a starter.

Tank Carradine: Showed the nastiest temperament on the D-line in training camp scuffles, but will that translate in games?

Arik Armstead: First-round draft pick has shown power in flashes and figures to get the released Darnell Dockett’s snaps at left DE in the Niners’ nickel packages.

Tony Jerod-Eddie: Played some outside linebacker in preseason finale, perhaps portending more blitzing from a player who has yet to get a career sack.

Mike Purcell: Feel-good story showed he belongs with big preseason games against Houston (dominated line of scrimmage) and Dallas (37-yard pick-six).

This pretty much sums up why my stance is valid. How can the D-line be a strength, when its full of unproven guys? You're most experienced/best player has 6 CAREER sacks in 6 YEARS of playing. This is half of the value of the rest of their D-Line's career totals combined? If so, how could this be perceived as a strength based purely upon potential and expectations? Sure I like Armstead, but that's one guy.. a rookie at that..

Our backup DT Tom Johnson had 5 Sacks last year..

Sure - I think they have a lot of well coached, quality defensive football players in their front seven. Ian Williams, Dial, Glenn Dorsey, Carradine - they are all big and will be tough to move off their spot. At LB, BOWMAN, Lynch, Brooks, Wilhoite ... all plus talent. I think it's a talented defensive front. YMMV.

As far as it being a big test for our offensive line - we're looking at possibly being without our starting center, we have a rookie at right tackle, a right guard who has never played guard in a regular season game, a left guard who is solid - but playing an entirely new position, and a left tackle who has been up and down his whole career.

I'd say it's going to be a big test. I'm not chalking this up as an easy win by any means. It's also on the road - I'm waiting to see what this team is made of before I assume to know anything about them.

I don't feel good about this game... Viking history is not kind in road games we should win.

In typical Vikings fashion my predictions are this; inconsistency. We will go from a crushing sack fumble TD recovery to blown coverage giving Kap 20 seconds to find the open receiver for a 93 yard TD.


Also, our perceived strength will be our weakness and our weakness will be our strength meaning; Bridgewater will light it up but our running game will lag and our defense will give up big points for some reason

I speak four different languages fluently, none of which are the language you seem to be using. I passed it to my colleague, a linguist who is a world renown scholar and master of 16 live languages and 4 dead ones, and his theory is that it is a dialect of a forgotten language from the rural south. His rough translation was that I'd touched a nerve with my comments. Apologies.

I really do hope the Vikings triumph, but I feel a struggle coming, and Irish Vike's post sounds about right to me. "Expect the unexpected" usually holds true with the Vikings.

I feel a struggle coming too. I'm not confident about this game at all. The Vikes were 2-6 on the road last year and I think they're 5 and 19 on the road over the last 3 seasons. Their road record probably isn't much better over most of this century. Consequently, I'm never confident about a Vikes win in a road game anymore.

Another reason I'm concerned about this game: it's on Monday night. According to Wikipedia, the Vikes all-time record on MNF is 26-29. The 49ers are 47-25 on MNF, I think they may have more MNF wins than any other team.

I don't know what the Vikes record is in primetime games in recent years but it can't be good.

Those are two factors that are weighing on me too. Add to that our O-line situation and just how pathetic we've looked running the ball. I would like to think that Adrian is SO motivated to prove a point and take out his pent up anger that it won't matter. But I'm afraid that is expecting too much, even of guy who continually amazes the world with his ability and strength.

Maybe those of us who have seen the Vikings disappoint so many times over the years are just bracing ourselves for another season. I hope that's all it is!
