I thought the same thing... too many hits to the head? I just can't imagine someone thinking the things he does... unless his agent ha other ulterior motives?

All conjecture, speculation, etc. Now you know what he's thinking? There is not enough information out there to know one way or the other exactly what Peterson's stance is, let alone what his thoughts are. This is just people projecting whatever they want to believe onto the situation.

I am pretty sure that if Peterson had been smoking marijuana the day he took the switch to his child it never would have happened. Damned either way. :D

I think the problem for AP holding out is that he was gone all of last year. NO team is going to give a player who hasn't played in basically 2 seasons any amount of money. The best AP could hope for would be a few million guaranteed with some incentives on top. At best a 7 mil deal I would guess. It doesn't matter how "Different" AP seems to be. Until he proves that he is going to not slow down until hes one hundred no one will pay him. He has to play and play hard next year if he really wants out.

Even if he holds out. The Vikings are in a stable position. I wouldn't be surprised to see them ride out this year as well. Just recouping what they can via fines and letting him watch time pass by.

Peterson has nothing to gain by holding out. The Vikings have all the power. I wish at this point, if they are feeling this way, they would just come out and say,

"We require a 1st round pick for AP as well as other compensation to consider a trade. We will not be cutting AP at anytime during this off season or next season. Barring a trade AP will serve out his contract to the full extent minus any fines for his failure to live up to his contractual obligations. We fully support the actions AP has taken following his off season incident and look forward to watching him earn every penny of his contract this season on the way to a successful campaign."

Puts the agent on the defensive as far as needing to respond to that. No hemming, no hawing. Just plain, no BS "here is what we are doing". If you kept it nothing but positive and conciliatory the agent has no ammo apart from vagaries that we can only speculate involve certain specific members of the Front office for equally vague reasons.

Where do you get two seasons from, Irish?

I think he's referring to last season and this coming season. In other words, if Peterson holds out this year, he'd miss a second consecutive season thus reducing his market value.

Yeah, I got caught up on two seasons and completely missed the point he was making. Thanks for pointing that out, Jim.

That's exactly what I meant Jim :)

I am not trying to say that a hold out would be good for the Vikings or that it would be the best choice for them to sit it through. But they are in a position to do it safely. They have the Cap space to eat his contract, they negotiated an incentive heavy contract (that he cannot achieve on the bench), and as I stated before. He has sat a year. the moment he holds out for the first game he will officially have been in semi retirement for a year. Not really, but you'd have to think that's how any team interested in signing him would spin it. Every minute he isnt out there proving his value from here on out, his value falls. It will fall anyway but if goes out there and scores TDs and turns in 100 yard games He'll slow it down and be able to score a great contract offer if he is still interested after this year.

At this point, to me, AP & Co. lost. The Vikings didn't blink. AP's only shot is a GM panicking and offering crazy value for him. He will not be cut or traded for change.

It wouldnt surprise me if Droga and AD try and find some legal way to be cut by the Vikings. With the way they always mention or hint at being lied to. And AD said nothing when Droga said AD would never play for the Vikings again. Theres something that us fans and the press havent heard.

@Rand_Getlin: Tony Romo has restructured his contract. Will save the team $13M in cap space.
@Ryan_Boser: AD owed exactly $13M... RT

Ed Werder had a report yesterday on ESPN that basically predicted this.
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:12592250 (video only)

(paraphrasing) Jerry Jones placed limits on the DeMarco Murray negotiations because he wanted to make sure that if there was an unusual opportunity to present itself for a unique hall of fame player like Adrian Peterson that they had the financial flexibility to pursue it ... and ... they would restructure Romo's contract to add more cap space

FWIW:
@CharlesRobinson I have been told the #Cowboys restructure of Tony Romo's deal is NOT to make room to acquire #Vikings RB Adrian Peterson.

Not unless AD restructures his contract, which I am certain he will do. I predicted this many months ago. AD with be a Cowboy and it is up to Ricky to get the optimum for him (which I think he will).

 more conflicting reports....

I was thinking this morning that it's been quiet on the Adrian Peterson front for a few days and that the media better come up with something to keep it going. This move by the Cowboys was just the fuel needed.

It would be a bitter pill to see Peterson play for Dallas, a team I've always hated, but if that's fated to happen, I can deal with it. At this point, I just hope that whatever happens, it works out well for the Vikes in the long run. If they could get a first round pick in this year's draft out of Dallas (or better yet, a first rounder and another pick), they might be able to make this all work for them. After all, as has been pointed out here many times, this draft class has some serious talent at RB. As much as I'd love to see the Peterson era continue, I'd be pretty excited to see the Gordon era or the Coleman era begin in Minnesota.
