2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker

I've been reading about a new player rating system that is starting to make some waves with scouts and front office people. It's called the Kick A$$ Rating System (KARS).

KARS is based on 3 basic measures:

S.I.T.H. Quotient= how much squirt in the hole does dude have?..... 1-10 scale

Gristle Factor (GF)= how gristley is he?..... 1-100 scale

Twisted Steel Response (TSR)= how many whacks to the torso with a good length of 4in flatbar before dude falls down?

There was to be another number based on how well the guy avoids a 10lb plate thrown at him in sets of 10....but it was deemed too controversial with all the concussion stuff going on.
KARS will be included along with all the regular wussy stuff like running, jumping and answering questions for evluating prospects and Free Agents. McKinnon scored a 9/95/15....that's tops so far.

These are the guys i have my eyes on, if we don't sign any i can honestly say it's not a big deal. Anyone heard anything on Greenway yet? Would be disappointed to keep him at his price tag.

It's beautiful! To me it signifies, that we will never see Ponder take another snap in purple. That nightmare couldn't end fast enough.

Boling is hardly some elite prospect we had to get. Don't need another average player making 5~ million a year to play not that much better than a guy making a fraction of that amount. Or even drafting a rookie and grooming like like they did with Sullivan and Fusco and having them around for a decade or more.

Something to consider ... at 9.85%, Minnesota has the second highest state income tax rate. Only California's nose bleed 13.3% rate is higher. I don't know if that hurts the Vikings but it sure as heck doesn't help.

So that means the state of MN will get in the neighborhood of 14 million dollars in tax revenue just from player's salaries this year, and increasingly more in successive years as the salary cap goes up. An interesting bit of info I never heard mentioned during the stadium debate. In the span of 10 years appx 150-200M of stadium costs will have come directly from the pockets of Vikings players? Interesting.

I understand that perspective, but it all hinges on who will actually start (actually finding that rookie or lower-tier free agent). Do you want an average to above average starting left guard making $5 million/year or a rookie or lesser talent conceivably worse than Charlie Johnson as a constant liability making $1 million/year? It's a decision I'm glad I don't have to make. Given Teddy's smallish frame and key development year(s), I'd probably slightly overpay to solidify the line with a decent guy in his prime. YMMV. The talent drops off quite a bit after him.

Available FA Guards:

Blalock (probably the best remaining of the bunch and would fit Norv's blocking scheme)
Sims
Rinehart
Pears
Snyder

Scherff will have to be in serious consideration if he's there at 11, even if we sign one of these guys.

I'm guessing Charlie Johnson has move value to the Vikings than he does to any other team at this point. I wouldn't be shocked to see him re-signed in Minnesota for a much lower amount.

I wouldn't either.

If I were in the Vikes position, I'd see if I could sign Blalock to a reasonable deal. He's a solid starter, better than Johnson, and could serve as a bridge to a younger guard. Then I'd look to draft a guard, perhaps in R2 or R3.

I would be fine with scooping up spikes, he's young ans a beast against the run. Against the pass he is not that good, he would be subbed out in passing situations.

I'm happy for Felton. I like him. He certainly did his job well for the Vikings.
