As some of you may already know I am a Vikings fan that lives in Arizona, and I gotta tell you guys I'm about 90% certain that AP is not going to be playing for us next year. I don't have any inside information, I didn't read it anywhere, it's just a feeling based on all the information that has come out over the last couple of weeks from both the Cardinals and Vikings. Let me explain.
The Cardinals have been unloading salary and restructuring contracts like crazy. Starting with Fitz, then Carson Palmer, also letting Darnell Dockett go. Now it looks as though Iupati will be signing a contract with them tomorrow. This by itself is nothing, but if you add the fact that AP has the Cards as his #1 team he'd want to be traded to, and the fact that he has already stated he would restructure his contract if he was traded. Now it becomes a little more believable. But wait there's more. I was under the impression that the meeting that took place between AP, Zimmer, and Rick went well. But both the Cardinals and Chargers that AP listed as his top teams were announced after the meeting took place. And for me, this is the kicker. Coach Zimmer came out and publicly stated that they had no intentions of doing anything with the running back position in FA, but then why are we inquiring about Ridley? The "Just in case" excuse doesn't hold water. Plus there has been ZERO reports about ANY teams contacting the Vikings and inquiring about AP in a trade. To me that very odd.
If not for the loss of both the starting QB, and the back-up, the Cardinals would have made a deeper push in the playoffs if not had won the whole thing. They know they are really close and feel that AP is the missing piece to having a really good offense to go with their stout Defense. My conclusion...The Vikings and the Cardinals have already worked out a deal for a trade and are keeping it all very hush hush. Call me crazy, call me a conspiracy theorist, but to me the writing is on the wall. Just my .02
Update. There was one team that actually called and asked about AP just recently. The 49ers are pretty much linked to every RB available since Hyde is the only guy left on the roster

I agree. I have a strong feeling about Arizona for many of the same reasons.

On a radio show today, Mcnabb said he didnt think Peterson would fit well in Arians offense. They need a back that catches a lot and doesn't require 25 touches a game. Makes some sense but then again, it's Adrian Peterson we're talking about.

Interesting comment from McNabb. But you're right, this is Adrian Peterson that we're talking about. I am really worried that we won't get much for him. I really hope I am wrong, but I feel like this is going to be one of those Vikings Fans moments. All is starting to look good and then the S hits the Fan. But then again, the S hit the Fan 6 months ago, so maybe this is our big break!

I think if we don't get offered much for him he don't get traded. It is that simple, if we don't like the deal we say too bad.

As I pointed out in the Peterson thread, if I'm "reading between the lines", I'd be looking at the cap space available to the team if Peterson were to be traded, roughly close to 40 million. Then I look at how completely silent we've been in the free agent market. My conclusion would be that the team doesn't plan on trading him. Or at least if they do, I'd question their strategy so far in free agency. It's one thing to sit back in the early stages of free agency when you have modest cap space as we currently do. It's another thing to sit back when we have a massive cap number and ways to go to reach the minimum spending mark. Unless we plan on overpaying for B level free agents or we have a couple big contract extensions planned right away, I don't see how it makes sense the Vikings would sit out free agency only to trade away their biggest cap hit.
If anything, I think our approach to free agency might suggest that we are going to cave to Peterson's demands and we are currently working on restructuring his deal.
