Re: PHP's "All-Out" Full Mock Offseason
It's funny to hear the critiques of L. Joseph. I noticed him playing with intensity today making some nice plays and showing surprising speed. The two that really stood out were him leaving the middle of the field, though, so maybe he's not as effective plugging the middle, but is making plays laterally well?
Munenerlyn hasn't really impressed me. We could use some more secondary help.

Exactly how I see it and it boils down to one below average player....Brinkley. Pat Williams looked great when EJ was covering his backside. We have a MLB that can't fill a hole to save his life and gets flushed out of the run so bad its not even funny. Granted, Pat was great but Linval is doing exactly what Pat was doing.....occupying more than 1 offensive lineman. He's not going to gobble up the run non stop. No 1 tech does that. It's an entire line/2nd level effort and that 2nd level is NOT there to fill holes which is why Brinkley needs to go or be a backup. Great 1 tech DTs are good because they occupy and allow MLBs to fill and thats what Joseph has been doing but the sad thing is....nobody can fillsaint33 wrote:
I don't think Linval Joseph has been that disappointing tbh. I know when a team struggles in run defense, people automatically turn to the DTs, especially the NT, but a lot of the time I see him occupying his olinemen, it seems to me our LBs are struggling in gap discipline. Not that Joseph has been a stud, he's definitely had some inconsistencies, but he's played well enough IMO to be worth his spot.

I'm not sure that there are many people that would agree with you on EJ making Pat Williams look good. Pat was extremely stout at the point of attack and had very good short area quickness. Great DTs do more than just "occupy" blockers, they penetrate and they hold up at the point of attack. I don't know if Joseph lost some lower body strength after he got shot, but to me he's getting moved out of his gap way too often and OL are getting to the second level way too often. We definitely need a rangey MLB, but we also need Joseph to play better.
Re: PHP's "All-Out" Full Mock Offseason
Pat definitely did more than occupy blockers. What made him so good was his ability to BEAT two blockers. He was an absolute monster.

I'm not saying EJ made Pat or anything because Pat was the man. It's just that when Pat got beat or flushed out of the run, EJ was there to fill. Brinkley hasn't shown the ability to do that on a consistent basis.MrPurplenGold wrote:

A short video from bleacherreport. Not a mock draft but they bring up some intriguing FA possibilites.

I not a big fan of any of the players they mentioned except MAYBE Marshawn Lynch if we could get him on a 2 year deal, and even then that's only if we lose Peterson. Lynch definitely has a little bit of game left in him, and he would be an upgrade in Asiata's power back role. It would also be a nice committee with Jerick McKinnon, and that could ease him into a more prominent role.
Speaking of which, I'm also not nearly as worried about our RB situation as they were. Even if Peterson is gone, McKinnon played well as a rookie and Asiata is a nice change of pace guy. He's not Beast Mode, but he is a better player than some other guys that are logging major minutes for us.
I've also said before that I wouldn't mind giving Duron Carter a chance, but he's a gamble and not what you should consider as an answer to the position. If we want to solidify our WRs, I think the draft is where we'll have to go. That said, I don't think WR is one of our top 3 needs, either.
I'd like to see us try to upgrade (in no particular order) LG, MLB, and CB. I think that is where improvement would show the most.
I think Greenway needs to be let go, and Hodges and Barr should be our starters next season. Josh Robinson has played much better, but I don't know if he's ever going to be full-time starter material. Captain Munnerlyn has been a disappointment. Brinkley is one dimensional, and I haven't even see him stand out in the run game.
I don't expect us to actually pick up any big free agents. Instead, I expect (and hope) we focus on keeping the guys we have and building continuity in the organization. We might pick up a mid-level guy, but I expect the draft to be the only real noise this offseason.
And after all of that, it's likely that we'll focus on drafting the best player available, so predicting our moves might not be as easy as looking at where our roster looks thin.

Vikings are in a very comfortable position. My best guess would be they grab one of the two wideouts with that first pick. However, things will get really complicated if they beat the bears sunday. They're sitting currently at #9, if they go to 7-9, they could potentially be picking at 15 or so. If that's the case, and this is just my opinion, they will lose out on both because there is no way Cooper and Parker both make it out of the top 15. Getting either will probably require a trade of some sorts.
I agree about cooper, to sum it up best, he's a bully. He literally bullies corners. His demeanor, the way he carries himself, it reminds me of Marvin Harrison. His whole playstyle does. I would be completely #### ecstatic if they managed to grab this kid but that's wishful thinking. Parker would be a more likely scenario, and not that much of a falloff, if a falloff at ALL. And it's not just about his familiarity with Teddy, he's a flat out baller with ideal size who is a top 10 talent as well. Remember, Cooper was also Teddy's teammate, in high school though lol.
If I had to guess, I think our round 1 snag has to be a wide receiver, and it will be Parker given the current situation.

I'm not really sure where he's ranked but I like Ty Montgomery as a possible 2nd/3rd round pick. Good speed/agility and I really like his physicality.

Tampa Bay, Kansas City, Minnesota and Indianapolis will be first teams Duron Carter meets with, per a source.

Couple more I like a lot to watch during bowls and offseason:
Washington States Vince Mayle. 6'3. 225. Former RB. Physical and attacks the ball in the air. 106 catches this year
Ohio States Devin Smith. 6'1. 197 speedster with hands.
East Carolinas Justin Hardy. 5'11. 186 Jennings type. Great route runner with great hands.
Florida States Rashad Greene 6'. 180 same as Hardy. These 2 know how to get open.
This is a great class of WRs. I think it's becoming the "in" position. Going to be finding great WRs like RBs.

#Vikings are in line to pick No. 9 in the NFL draft, same spot they ended up picking last May. Would move up a notch if lose to Chicago.

I didn't know there was a lighter mode. I know it's your colors but I found it hard to view the dark purple mode. Now I've switched and I think I'll visit more often. That may be a bad thing for some.Mothman wrote:Pondering, I haven't had a chance to read your post yet but I suggest avoiding yellow text in future posts. It's very hard to read in the board's lighter mode, which many of us use.
Now, on to the mock...!

I f we miss out on Gordon, i think we could draft Ameer Abdullah late . What he accomplished with a very mediocre line at Nebraska was amazing, Gordon is very talented ,but he also ran behind one of the best lines in all of college football at Wisconsin.
