Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
I'd like Tom Johnson back but I think a lot of teams will have him on the radar after his production this year. He seems to thrive in Zimmer's scheme so hopefully that will hold some weight. Berger is good utility since he plays center and guard. Ducasse has also looked okay subbing for Charlie Johnson who isn't worth $2.5MM. No major impacts if we lose them all, as frosted mentioned, it's next year that is interesting.
I'm torn on Jennings, he's clearly overpaid but our receiver corp is already thin and also young. With Patterson still being a big question mark, I don't know that they let Jennings go although I haven't really looked at the FA market. Maybe he restructures.

Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
I wouldn't mind bringing Jasper back for cheap, depending on what they do in FA and the draft. He's definitely not the answer but at least is barely serviceable. Hopefully PHP's mock is correct and we address the need in FA, but if that doesn't happen I wouldn't mind seeing him resigned just so they aren't forced to reach for a MLB in the draft (unless of course the guy they want falls in their lap at the right place).
And if they are able to find the guy they want, he would provide decent depth.
Am I crazy??

Releasing a player doesn't automatically transform his cap figure in cap space.IIsweet wrote:To me, we trade AD to Dallas.
Also, we release Jennings, Greenway, Felton, and OG Johnson.
That's $40.2 million. Add Robison and it's $45.65 million. Add Cassel and it's $51.4 million
There's got to be some cap hit for those, but that's a fortune to target strengthening our team tied up in only 7 players. Realistically we got very little out of them. Granted, they bring experience, leadership, and professionalism to the team, but we got very little return on those guys.
Question..... Do we keep OG Johnson and his 2.5 and release Kalil and his 6.3 ?
Then add another LT for less than Kalil.
Releasing Jennings ($M 11) would only free $M 5 in cap space.
Releasing Robison ($M 5.45) would only free $M 2.45 in cap space.
Releasing Kalil ($M 6.3) would only free... nothing...

I'm not a huge fan of Johnson, but we could do worse as a depth guy that has experience at multiple positions along the line.

I wish I knew about the money side of football, but if we traded Jennings, it would free up 11 mil right? He is worth, right now, about 3 mil a year. And part of that is being a vet leader. I personally think we could slide Theilen or better yet, Wright, in the slot, and the production would be about the same, but free up a lot of space. So we could really pursue a WR in the draft. See if Rick can work some magic and we can end up with Cooper Parker or even White.jeg067 wrote: Releasing a player doesn't automatically transform his cap figure in cap space.

Kalil has been playing better, I don't think we just dump a player like that. Johnson (G) isn't getting paid much, no sense in dropping him. Johnson (WR) give that man a nice fat contract right now. I don't know what to think of CP (I don't know when his contract with us ends), but unless we could make some kind of killer trade, give him another year to compete for a job. I don't think CP wants to be here, but we will see.
AD would solve the RB position. But if he tries to demand big bucks, I don't see him being here next year. I don't see a trade happening. We might end up just dumping him.
Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
Jeg, thank you for your knowledge of what their cap hit would be. I was not sure what it would be for each player.
I didn't have the exact numbers in front of me, but I threw it out there. Next time I will thoroughly research before posting thoughts and opinions. My bad.
Now going forward, I like everyone hopes that our guys always develop into All Pro guys or reach their potential. I root for 1team and 1 only. We want the Vikings at the top every year. The current way has not worked with the current players. I merely suggest moving onto new players for the current staffs schemes.
Allowing the current coaching staff to hand pick the players. Granted, we all have our favorites, but I cheer for the Vikings, regardless of who's wearing the purple and gold !
I just hope that we continue to be more athletic and fun to watch while creating a great team.

Dude no one is giving a first rounder for Ap. And by cutting those guys it's not like there is a better replacement for each of them just sitting there waiting for the vibes to call. Pass the bong buddy ur smoked.

Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
And we are replacing "all" of these guys with who? Have to think beyond the big pile of money you just created. The players that you will be seeking will want top dollar and long term contracts. Not feasible to sign that many big money contracts in one season. Then however many years down the road you will be faced with the same dilemma. It can be prudent to drop a player here and there but you do have to look at many aspects of the player, just not how much money they make.IIsweet wrote:To me, we trade AD to Dallas.

Don't hate on my Buckeyes. Some of the best Vikings went to Ohio State.
Including now, HOF WR #80 Cris Carter

This reminds me of those radio call in like KFAN where someone will call and put a package of all of the bad players and trade them to another team for a future hall of famer in their prime. Hilarious.

Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
I dont agree with that at all. Jennings is the most reliable WR we have and catches anything thrown his way. By releasing Robison, it does nothing besides put a hole at DE now which we don't need. Kalil is still very young and has been playing better lately. Why would we release a guy flat out when it doesn't even free cap space and he's only 25. Where is the logic behind that??PurpleMustReign wrote: But we get nothing from those players!

Honestly not trying to be a smart a$$, just curious......to which Johnson are you referring? DT or OG?Demi wrote:I'm not a huge fan of Johnson, but we could do worse as a depth guy that has experience at multiple positions along the line.
I would rather keep the DT than the OG, but I could see keeping either for depth.

Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
Makes sense.
I really hope they keep Tom Johnson
With OG Charlie....I kind of put him in the same category as Jasper......they have a LOT of holes, and if they can't fill the OG or MLB holes through FA or the draft, I suppose we could limp along for 1 more year with either of these guys as long as they are upgrading other positions like LT, WR, S, CB. And if they upgrade MLB and/or OG, we could do worse than either Jasper or Johnson as depth guys.

Nope.PurpleKoolaid wrote: I wish I knew about the money side of football, but if we traded Jennings, it would free up 11 mil right? .....
It's money we already paid him, but hasn't been taking into account in the salary cap yet,
probably his signing bonus. ($M 2 x 5 years instead of $M 10 the first year).
It will count against our cap no matter what.
