Re: Holy Ugliness
First off, there is more to building a team than drafting 2 or three Non busts over a four year period. Spielman hasn't brought in any FA that are worth damn, and he hasn't been able to retain anyone at the end of their contracts.
As far as Zimmer, the bengals are 3-0, the vikings 1-2, all I'm saying is the honeymoon is over and we should be able to criticize whatever mistakes he makes.

Let Ponder get his AZZ pounded by NO.....NOT your QB of the future!!! The Vikes are showing WHY they are a perpetual failure.....idiotic managment, poor judgement of both Talent AND Character.

Joseph, Munnerlyn, even Jennings??? And who else would we want to "retain" that we missed on? It's been 3 games to. Joseph was more Zimmers guy, not Rickie's. Jennings isn't a god example. He was so much better in GB. He is so overpaid in MN.
Re: Holy Ugliness
"Rickie" calls the shots. Zimmer doesn't get his guy if Spielman doesn't agree to make the move, so "Rickie' should get credit/blame for any free agent brought in under his watch.PurpleKoolaid wrote:Joseph was more Zimmers guy, not Rickie's. Re: Holy Ugliness
So you think Rickie was going to get Joseph if Zimmer didn't come here? He may have had the final say in the matter, but I personally don't think Rickie would have thought of him.Mothman wrote: "Rickie" calls the shots. Re: Holy Ugliness
Joseph was one of the top free agents on the market and the Vikes needed to replace Williams so it certainly seems possible that they would have tried to sign him. Plus, Spielman chose to hire Zimmer, presumably because he thought they had enough in common philosophically, regarding football, for Zimmer to be a good fit. It doesn't seem like a stretch to believe Spielman might have wanted to sign Joseph anyway.PurpleKoolaid wrote: you think Rickie was going to get Joseph if Zimmer didn't come here?
Either way, he's the GM. The final call is his to make and he obviously approved of signing Joseph so why deprive him of credit for that move?

You're right, I am hard on Rickie. Perhaps he had his eye on Joseph earlier. Maybe he has had some kind of a plan all these years. But when I see him, I think used car salesman.Mothman wrote: Joseph was one of the top free agents on the market and the Vikes needed to replace Williams so it certainly seems possible that they would have tried to sign him. Yeah I'm not sure where you're going with this. We desperately needed a 1 technique no matter if it was Zimmers defense or Fraziers and Joseph was the best available so I don't know why you would say he wouldn't have gone after him.PurpleKoolaid wrote: So you think Rickie was going to get Joseph if Zimmer didn't come here? Also, Jennings might be overpaid but he is still a very solid WR to have. One of the most reliable vets out there. I was questioning someone saying "teddy has no weapons", not how much money they make. Munnerlyn has been impressive to and I believe that was a good signing as well.

Re: Holy Ugliness
over the past 3 yrs it seems like our secondary HAS improved. Our special teams coverage has improved. A lot of that can be attributed to bringing in the right talent. We have moved upward in regards to WR but then we were so bad there that my daughter could have drafted WRs and improved the situation! Our DL/OL on the other hand, has not been handled very well, esp OL. Our QB situation has been horrific and now MAYBE we have a potential QB. Bit I don't think we are grooming Teddy for success by suddenly making him a starter. It makes no sense. It all is very seat of your pants management. He should be on the side lines, watching Ponder (yeah that vision makes me sick to!) and learning how NOT to play QB. No RB, not much of an OL, and a first year coach is NOT a good recipe for success. Ponder needed to be on the active list.

Re: Holy Ugliness
I think the OL is the biggest weakness right now. I'm sure Peterson could be getting more yards that Asiata/McKinnon have managed, but I'm not sure the difference would be as dramatic as we might imagine. The blocking has really been pretty horrendous on running plays for the last two weeks.chicagopurple wrote:over the past 3 yrs it seems like our secondary HAS improved. Re: Holy Ugliness
It was 3-13 midway through the 2nd quarter. Game wasn't hopeless. Vikings record yesterday was 1-1. Season wasn't hopeless either.chicagopurple wrote:As much as I totally dislike Ponder. Re: Holy Ugliness
I have a feeling that the Vikings could start 13-0, lose a road game, and some people would get all wound up and post how people should be fired, coaches are all bad, management sucks, and all the players are worthless.
