Look at the Brightside. We are above the Packers in the Division. :D

New Orleans Saints ‏@Saints
Brees on the suplex hit by Captain Munnerlyn: “That was straight Hulk Hogan, 1985-style suplex”
Memo to Bree: Give it a rest. Wimp.

Took a look at the replay of the personal foul penalty of the vikings, Brees actually tried to punch the Viking player with his right hand in a fist.

Our defense played well for a large chunk of the game against a team that has the ability to hang a lot of points on the board (especially at home). Thought Linval Joseph had a really good game.
Were we watching the same game?

First Downs: Saints - 27, Vikings - 13
Total Plays: Saints - 68, Vikings - 54
Total Yards: Saints - 396, Vikings - 247

I'd quote more from the box, but it doesn't get better for the Vikings in any category.

There was nothing interesting about this game. It was a lot more of the same thing I've seen from this team for years now on both sides of the ball.

What *is* interesting to me is when the Vikings will throw in the towel on this style of offense and admit it doesn't work and start trying to throw the ball down the field more. They may not be ideally suited to do that yet, but they can at least start to try it. Who knows? They might catch a few defenses off guard and it might even work a few times.

Brees threw a punch that missed on that play.

Pondering Her Percy wrote:To be honest, a big thing that costed us that game was that horrible call on Munnerlyn's sack. That was a pathetic call and it costed us. We would have gotten the ball, down by 4, and in good field position. Instead it costed us 7 points.

As much as everyone is saying the offense was "bad" you have to remember, we are missing our best player and are limited at RB, the game plan was designed for Cassel and Zimmer even said the playbook for Teddy was "limited", our best lineman (Fusco) went down and horrible Ducasse filled in, Rudy went down, and that horrible penalty potentially costed our offense more points
I agree with you that the call was a huge factor and could have changed the outcome of the game, but I also think that the refs called it correctly. The refs really protect the qbs and aren't going to allow a qb to be slammed to the ground like that anymore and it will be called every time no matter who the qb is (contrary to beliefs of others here).

As a side note, I'm not trying to be derogatory or anything like that - but the correct term is 'cost' and not 'costed'. I see this term used incorrectly quite often. Costed means 'to estimate or set the cost of'. Hope I don't get flamed for this. :?

Remember, Greenway has a broken hand so that may have been part of the snap count.

Even when Greenway is healthy I'd like to see Hodges play more. He's a much better athlete and could probably do a better job in coverage.

And Brees doesn't know jack about pro wrestling. Hulk Hogan never had a suplex...or most other moves.

He had a punch, a clothesline, and his finisher (bounce guy off ropes, boot to face; bounce off ropes, leg drop; pin for three-count; 10-minutes pose and flex to music). Nothing more.

But hey, Brees has a lifetime pass from everything including bounty scandals due to Katrina....

I just watched the replay too and IMO he didn't try to punch Blanton (even though Munnerlyn is the one who body slammed him - or maybe the video I saw didn't play it far enough). He did give him a shove with a closed fist, but that's not the same as throwing a punch. I also don't think they penalize a player for 'tyring' to throw a punch, only if the punch lands. For those that think it was 'just a tackle', Brees is picked up off his feet and thrown backwards so that the back of his helmet hits the ground and the NFL is always going to throw the flag for that.

Well ... I never thought we had much of a chance in this game. We were down by 4 points at the start of the 4th quarter. Defense held the Saints to 20 points (thought we might give up 40). Backup QB comes in relatively early in the game. So ... yeah ... I saw some things that were encouraging.

Wow, give it a rest. It wasn't a punch, it was a 'closed fist shove'? What the #### is that?

Didn't think it was that difficult to understand - his fist was closed rather than open when he shoved Blanton. Still just a shove - not a punch.
