I am struggling to even remember the last time I saw this squad tackle this well.

2 key differences in the D this year so far.....they are actually getting pressure on the QB and when they complete a pass most of the time the first guy that hits the receiver is making the tackle. Very few plays where they are getting any YAC

They've been solid.

I'm even more impressed with our d-backs. Nobody is open except for check-downs, where our solid linebackers are cleaning up.

Okay—so when the pundits respond to this defensive performance, do they say that the Vikings looked great, or that the Rams forgot to bring anyone to the stadium who could play quarterback?

Vikings have a real defense.
Cassel playing smart
Peterson having a pretty ho-hum day so far.
Cordarrelle Patterson is a freakin' stud (1 crazy rushing TD)
Special Teams playing very well.

Looks like someone with a clue is coaching the Vikings.
