I would too, but it wouldn't ruin my life if the Vikings happened to win a Super Bowl either
Someday it will happen... Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and Indianapolis have all won one... so we have to be on the list too, right???
The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018
I get excited every year for the season to start. But since the 70s I've been apprehensive about my team and never quite sure how they'll do. It just seemed like every year they had some glaring weakness that wasn't addressed in the off season. I just never expected them to make a real super bowl run. My optimism was limited. Even when we got Farve I wasn't real excited. I never had confidence in Childress and his staff. So when they played so we'll in 2009 I really got excited and when 2010 came around I felt they were really posed for a run at the super bowl. Then came the crash and it was back to how I was feeling before Farve came along.
Now suddenly I am really excited again for vikings football. This team and this staff just "feels" different for some reason. Now I don't expect them to make a run at the super bowl this year but I expect to see some MAJOR improvement. I really believe this team is on it's way up to becoming a championship caliber team that will compete year in and year out. This staff is one of the best we've had in decades. I am really jacked about vikings football again!
Admittedly, it would be nice to have a Super Bowl win on the Vikings "resumé" but hopefully that's coming soon. The Packers can keep their history.

Oh, believe me, I"m with you guys ... I want a Super Bowl win in the worst way.
Tell you what. The first coach who manages to win a Super Bowl for the Vikings will take on Vince Lombardi-like status in Minnesota. #NeverBuyADrinkAgain

I understand completely, but whether you accept it or not, that's because were all Vikings fans and we revere and honor and our history because it is our own. There is really no way to think anybody who isn't a Vikings fan to feel the same.
Again, this comes back to, we NEED a SB, like now.
the preseason is about evaluating talent so you can ASSEMBLE a team. It doesn't tell you how good your team is. 70% of preseason playing time isn't even done by your starters

As a matter of historical correction. They have TWO "Super Bowls", and TWO "AFL-NFL World Championships". Says so right on the trophy. Remember, you had to win the NFL Championship game to get to those AFL-NFL Championship game.
Sorry, pet peeve of mine. Won't correct anyone for the next few months.
And oh yeah, I would trade anything of the Vikings for the last 5 years. Guess it's because I have been a Vikings fan for so long and remember when he Packers couldn't win squat. Remember when Rodgers is done and gone, good NFL QB don't grow on trees and are hard to come by. Team that are up this year will be down in the future.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966
GBFavreFan wrote:Mothman, other than your unique sentiment that Christian Ponder is actually a good QB, I would describe you as a "conservative" Viking fan. I accept that you won't get yourself overly excited about something that might be good with the team. And that's fine. To each his own. But when you said my "declarations don't mean a darn thing", and being thankful you won't have to listen to our predictions anymore, it rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't expect you to predict playoffs for us this year or anything, but I didn't think you needed to knock people who did or be so dismissive of that POV.
As I hope I made clear, it wasn't my intention to knock anyone or to imply that I was thankful not to have to read people's predictions anymore. Predictions, declarations, etc. obviously have meaning to us as part of the fan experience. I enjoy reading them and making them. I just meant that that they have no actual bearing on games and I'm thankful the season is upon us because now we're going to get actual games and actual results, which is something I think we all look forward to every year.
With your verbage, you came off to me as the boring, cranky old man on the porch waving your cane, telling the neighbors to stop being so happy, or something, and that's what made me go off, combined with my frustration at many Vikings fan who think people who predict more than 8 wins are unreasonable people who chase butterflies and dream of unicorns.
I tried to soften my remarks with a but I guess that doesn't always work, so I hope I didn't come off as too harsh of an attack on you.
I'll live.
Thanks for expressing that sentiment though. I appreciate it.

If you're extra nice, he'll let you drive his Gran Torino.

Those are considered AFL-NFL Championship Superbowls. I don't really care though, not really that relative to my point.
Also, weren't you saying we were going to be division champs pre 2013 as well? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I don't want to be the Packers, I want to have some of the success they have had, but for our Vikings. I'm not the type to delude myself into the thinking that our Matt Cassel QBed squad with a new head coach is going to shock the world. 8-8 if AP stays healthy.
Anyways, I just don't think it makes much sense to make assumptions about the Packers regime, when our own has proven very little
Preseason doesn't matter, because it has so very little scheming, and game planning, it is solely about individual player evaluation. You seem unaware if that, otherwise I agree with alot of what you just said.
Oops! Meant to quote GBFavrefan bruh, my bad.
Exactly. I too have high hopes for the Vikes this year. In the past we really struggled when teams put 8 or 9 in the box to stop AD and brought intense pressure on our QB. We did not see this in the preseason, but when AD is in the game week one you can count on it. If we can't protect the QB and make them pay for stacking the box it could be another tough season for us. I do believe our defense will be better, but is still a few pieces away from being real good. I could see 8-8 but hope for more.
