NFL cracks down on domestic violence

Post by dead_poet »

@TomPelissero --Confirming NFL has instituted enhanced policy on domestic violence. NFLPA does not have to sign off because it's under personal conduct.
@AlbertBreer -- NFL sent a letter to all owners today announcing new standards for domestic violence. First offense: 6 games; Second offense: Lifetime ban.
@AdamSchefter --Key phrase in new domestic violence policy sent to NFL owners: "These disciplinary consequences apply to all NFL personnel." ALL personnel.
@AlbertBreer -- Goodell to owners on Rice: "My disciplinary decision led the public to question our sincerity, our commitment and whether we understood the toll that domestic violence inflicts on so many families. I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values. I didn’t get it right."
@AlbertBreer -- That, in itself, is big. Again, Goodell said in the letter to the 32 owners on his Ray Rice sanctions: "I didn't get it right."
@TomPelissero -- Also, any offense prior to entering league could result in more severe discipline. This could change how teams view offenders in draft.
@AlbertBreer --Widespread Goodell memo detailed new educational program on domestic violence, outreach to young athletes, additional services for families.

As much as I don't like Goodell, I am glad he admitted he handled the Ray Rice wrong. I am very happy with the policy. Hopefully some of the other sports will follow suit.

Goodell is a true political hack... He would back or promote anything, for popularity sake.

 yeah shame on him for hopping on that pesky anti domestic violence popularity bandwagon. What's the world coming to? And should I just go ahead and pencil you in under the "for domestic violence" category while we're at it?

But no, seriously, Goodell doesn't do anything for popularity, he does it for money. I believe his popularity is pretty low with most NFL fans these days. Not Bud Selig low, but getting there.
